Thats an autorrized distributer.

Oh, Ok, than I ordered it with an Autorrized distributer (we have a store and buy all our Apple equipment there, so that makes us the reseller), and they confirmed that this particulary PM 2.5 would arrive Friday! I don't get my bets up yet..

I'll keep you informed..

I sent Apple an email with a bunch of questions and complaints, like why the Dual 2.5GHz G5 is said to be shipping in July and I'm getting mine near September, and if it's true some have shipped, etc. Let's see what they have to say.

Clarity

Now that they shed some clarity on the release of a G5 imac in september it would be cool of apple to inform their customers about their top of the line machine the G5 2.5.

I mean saying that their might be delays all trough out the quarter is not really reassuring. Just give us some numbers of how many will ship during what time period and what is the demand compared to the offer right now.

There is no surprise in it for us anyway. We know the product we know what it looks like. We want them really bad. So just tell us.

they probably did not get the email in time to discuss this matter during the Q&A session

I'm in New Zealand.

I ordered 2 x G5s last week.

Got the dual 2.0 with extra 2GB RAM the same day I ordered it.

The dual 2.5 is on traget for the end of July - I'm first on the list.

All the Macs here come via Apple Australia to the NZ Apple distributor and to Australia from Singapore where they are manufactured.

So, we usually get stuff pretty quickly although if you want a BTO ie. different video card it'll take up to 6 weeks extra.

Hey Arn,

Where did these reports come from? It wasn't just Jim was it?

I only ask to get an idea of what we're dealing with here, not that I want you to divulge your secrets or contacts. :p

I have the G4 generation plastic Cinema Display and by all means it's a beautiful monitor in many ways... but being so limited as far as adjustability can really get annoying after a while. The new aluminum enclosures, in my opinion, are better because of their thin bezel and small footprint. having that would make properly positioning two monitors a breeze. For me, turning the four inch gap between my monitors into a one inch gap would be a dream...

thats just how I feel... never hard feelings.

i was just confused as to what you were refering. the adjustability isnt much of an issue for me (i sit with a monitor at a slight tilt away from me) i just don't need the additional firewire or the extra hundred dollars attached to the new alu display. i can make due with less adjustability for the cost difference. the new lcds should have dropped a bit in price, the technology difference isnt much compared to what the monitors WERE. (350:1/400:1 contrast ratio difference? c'mon, 50 more isnt enough to justify the cost difference).

althought...the alu displays are gorgeous as well, just not in the budget yet.
love,
johnny

I called my local apple store in san diego and there are no dual 2.5's on display. They told me when the new 2.5's ship, that's when they will have it on display. They are very tight lipped here.

i'll keep you all posted

Out of all the people getting new 2.5s, how many of you also got Applecare? I plan on ordering end of July with the 6800 and was wondering if applecare would really be worth it.

AppleCare?

I'm not one to buy the first revision of a particular Mac line since my bad experience with Firewire in the first G3 B&W. Even though it's the second revision of the G5, the liquid cooling system in the dual 2.5s is completely new, so I chose to get AppleCare just in case it turns out to have big problems. I'd much rather have an easy way to get something done about it than possibly have to wait for Apple to admit a problem and offer a solution.

That's a very valid statement. Although they are RevB's, the cooling system "is" completely new. I think I should get the apple care.

Say, say! It's possible to add Applecare at a later time as long as it's in the original warranty time frame of one year, right?
Duff-Man says....yes, that is right...and that is what I will probably do too - wait at least a few months, monitor forums and macfixit for reports on these liquid-cooled systems...then decide if I want to spend the extra $$ for Applecare (I probably will...)....oh yeah!

Apple stores use netboot to prevent customers from altering the perfect arrangement of files and software on the computers. THis means every computer will be on the same version of the os, so even if they had 10.3.5 on the system, it would still be running 10.3.4 if you look at it.

Sorry to be off-topic but I was on a road trip last month and needed an iTrip. I bought it at an Apple Store, downloaded an iPod program to take my songs off my pod. I paired my pod to the Apple store computer and uploaded my songs with iTrip files. I was able to DL and install whatever I wished without problem.

Apple care

I've received my Apple care for the 2.5 G5. First Apple care I've bought for a Mac.

Why? Well, no longer have local servicer in my town, and the guy was after me at Macmall -- they are offering Apple Care for $199 vs the standard $249.
He aslo said the promotion price has to go w/ the order of the G5. If I added it later, bang, no more sale price plus an $18 set up fee. When I still himmed and hawed he took another chunk off my shipping, as a way to drop the AC price even further. I bit. No regrets.

T i m

P.S. Sure'd like the recent shipping rumors to be true.

how come?

That apple has not put it up on their site that the 2.5 are shipping.

Shortly after the first screens arrived at their happy new owners, rumours went wild, pics showed up and the day after that apple put it up on their site as well.

Now this rumours is still going strong but no "real" sign whatsoever that they are actually shipping.

Gimme some evidence here people!

Yes you can.

BUT if you buy a Display at the same time as the Mac you need to add Apple care when you place the order otherwise the Display will not be covered even if you add Apple care later.

Apparently according the guy I spoke to at the Apple store you can not buy a separate Apple care for a display :(

The Macs and Displays should really come with a 3 year warranty, this seems to becoming the standard now for other electrical products but for some reason not Apple.

i guess i was feeling optimistic. i ordered the top end g5 right away. it's not really a rev b i suppose, theres just so many new things in there. with the 90nn processor, liquid cooling, etc. it's pretty much more of a rev a of a new build.

anyhow, i do hope to get it soon just for my own impatience. my order still shows a shipping date of the end of this month, even though mine is a bto. i went ahead and upped the ram and hd through apple. it didn't seem to affect my ship date, though.

G5 2.5MP w/ 6800 DDL

JohnnyTwoToes said:
the 2.5 may have a shorter wait? i wouldnt hold out for the 6800 though, other posts on the forums and apple.com have systems with that card in them stated at 8/31 - 9/3 (so i've read and saw on apple). check for yourself. the card is what is going to hold you up. if the 2.5 status changes and you need the system order one with the stock card and then just upgrade to the 6800 when it becomes more widely available.

I ordered my 2.5 in the first week they were released, then on the day they unveiled the 6800 DDL, I upgraded my order. My ship date has remained "On or before 07/30/2004".

I am starting to crack up.

I can't take it!! When will they ship?? If it's really not until the end of the month, then why the rumors??

AAAaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

recursive, not to go out of my way to contradict you...i hope that date stands firm for you. the card itself isnt supposed to be available to mid to late august...so i dont understand how apple can meet that 7/30 date. for your case i hope they do, but i wouldnt get my hopes up. it IS apple we're dealing with. they like to sell us vaporware. and we like to buy it...the fools we are.
