Yes, and I also called 1-877-422-5368. That's Apple billing department. You might have better luck calling that number because they are the ones that are on top of the order to make sure it's paid for before it's shipped. :)

For the heck of it I tried this number and before i could say anything they transfered me straight to the education number... i'm getting the idea they are tired of us calling.

edit: my estimated shipping is still september 20th, the order was places 6/17 at 8am est

Good! Maybe they'll actually tell us something! :D

jeffdr's 2.5 got scanned again in Shenzhen, China and still has no Estimated Delivery Date. Mine, on the other hand, which was over 3 hours behind his getting it's departure scan still says Shenzhen (his entered the shipping process on Friday, July 30th and mine was on Monday, Aug 2nd), but has an Estimated Delivery Date of Thursday, August 5th by 10:30 AM. I'm very excited about my delivery date, but this whole thing seems to have turned into a circus.

And I'm in total agreement with brykken... the whole "shipping in order" thing did NOT happen. Still, I've only got 2 more days to wait!

According to my tracking, my G5 will be in today! Also according to my tracking, it's still in China. I think there's a glitch in the FedEx system, and it's putting Shenzhen, CN in for all the locations. Who knows? I'm confused.

If it does come in today, I'll have photos up ASAP!

I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!

My 23" Cinema Display is wandering around town on its way to be delivered today, and now I'm getting excited for the machine itself.

I gotta have more G5!

For those considering cancelling and buying a 2.0: it's too late to settle for less than the top of the line!

"I'm tellin' you, fellas, you're gonna want that cowbell on the track!"

Like many other people who have had thier dual 2.5 shipped, my tracking info says that as of today -- it's still sitting in China. After reading a post that FedEx doesn't always update thier website, I decided to call them.

I talked to a woman named nancy from the International Priority Direct Distribution, who is shipping the packages. She said that she couldn't give me an estimated delivery date because the shipment is still in the country of origin and hasn't cleared customs yet.

Hope this helps answer the question as to whether anyone will see thier G5 today, as least whoever has thier computer in the same shipment as mine.

I wonder if Apple sends out the BTO machines first because these customers actually spent more money on their machines.

Kinda like "OK - you paid the premium to have an Apple installed 250GB HD, so we're going to ship out your machine before all the stock ones."

Hotwire,

You may very well see your computer soon. My tracking site still says "package status" for August 3. Your shipment seems to have left the facility and is on it's way.

Hopefully mine will be next.

Usually, no. In my experience, BTO Apple products = 2-3 days build time MINIMUM. There's also the fact that you can BTO a *cheaper* machine, so I doubt it has anything to do with it.

More than likely, Apple is choosing to satisfy orders that they *can* ship asap - so any additional products they are waiting for (ram, hard drives, video cards, whatever) can push your order back, while the in-stock boxes are being built and shipped sooner. This is the only reasonable explaination for what some people are seeing (particularly, order A shipping before order B, dispite their order time.)

Don't worry people, the 2.5 really isn't as in-demand as you might think (compared to, say, the 12" PowerBook fiasco, where many thousands of orders were placed from day 1.) Keep in mind that the 2.5 is the top of the line - and most people will opt to buy a 2ghz machine, saving $500 and 4-6 weeks. Once this logjam of orders is satisfied, delivery time will drop to "a few days" very quickly.

As for the MacRumors post about 3ghz machines, I don't buy that IBM would release 3ghz cpus while the 2.5 is still in high demand. Even if they can produce 3ghz reliably, why bother - when they can rape Apple on the 2.5 at a lower cost. I seriously doubt we will see dual 3ghz powermacs by November.

That's what I thought. When I looked into getting a BTO 2.0 last november, it added 7-10 days to my order.

But I don't think any of these 2.5s that have shipped have been stock machines. Almost all of them have some sort of upgrade - RAM, HD, Bluetooth. I know there has been talk of delays in the Cork facility due to holiday - maybe this is where the stock orders ship from and that's why we haven't seen those moving yet.

I don't know, i'm just guessing...

Have any shipped with Bluetooth?

This reinforces my point. Perhaps there was a shortage of 9600XT cards, but a surplus of the 9800XT. Perhaps 200 stock systems went out already, but none of them are going to posters of this forum. We'll have to wait and see.

Keep in mind that this forum hardly represents the mac userbase as a whole.

I read that too, about those holidays, but I would almost say it should be the other way around... I can't imagine they build the stock machines in Ireland, ship them to customers from there, but if they are bto, first ship them to china and then back to customers..

it would be easier if they would be manufactured in China, send to ireland where they are BTO-ed if necessary, and then sent to customers from there..

but hey..I guess it's Apple we are talking about

Just as I got home from picking my daughter up at daycamp to finish packing for my weekend getaway with the fam damily, I notice this behemoth sitting in the common area just outside my condo door. Considering that I placed my preorder elatively late (early june), I thought it was safe to leave for four or five days without concern. So I set my daughter down to run amok and proceed to drag the thing in "just to make sure it's intact". The computer itself runs great, but Apple screwed up and shipped me an Nvidia 6800 even though I ordered a 9800 XT for my 17" studio display (planning to wait for Ati's x800 and hand down the xt to my nephew when that came out). Hoping I got a freebie, I checked the packing slip and sure enough, they docked me the extra 200 and some odd dollars. Anyway, I used the "mass exodus out of Boston due to the democratic convention causing miserable traffic" excuse to stall a few hours in order to putz around a bit, and everyone's patience has worn thin. I don't think my daughter really appreciate the ~90fps we're getting in Shrek 2. We'll have to break this baby in after the weekend. Here are some first impressions:
1) Subjectively much faster. I'm not really into first person shooters, but Battlefield 1942 and Halo both average well over 60 frames per second with everything maxed at 1280x1024. I suspect this is partly due to OS X 10.3.5
2) Cinebench was expectedly faster. I didn't dare fire up Maya for fear of having to sleep on the couch.
3) exceedingly quiet
4) Nothing else special. After more than an hour of playing around, I'm already bored again and want to buy something else. Don't know what.

I hope everyone else here receives an immaculate and functioning unit in a similarly timely fashion (if not in an especially convenient or appropriate one - the Fedex guy who dropped the box should get fired).

Cheers

So I guess this did turn out to be bullsh*t after all. I see the poster continues to post with no mention of a 2.5.

...What's the world come to? If you can't trust anonymous posters on obscure internet rumor sites who *can* you trust? :D

China is a day ahead than us. The same thing happened to my iPod.

I know that because it shows a scan on 8/3 @ 8:23pm in China, but it also says estimated delivery by 12:00pm on 8/3 to Michigan on his tracking information.
