My ship status is now on or before 8/4 (was 7/30). Last time I called apple I pried very hard for any info, basically asking about any info that was available to the rep. She was very nice and was just reading everything off her display. One thing she said is that my 2.5 would be shipping from CORDOVA TN. My 23" has arrived and it too came from there.

SO WHAT?...
I have a good friend who is a pilot for Fed-Ex and lives in Memphis. So I know a little about Fed-Ex.
Cordova is a suburb of Memphis, (Fed-Ex's world headquarters) it's really close to Fed-Ex. Most any Fed-Ex packages routes thru Memphis, certainly ones from China. So I think This location in Cordova is ether an Fed-Ex sort/warehouse facility or an Apple assembly/sort/warehouse? If ALL of Apples customization is done in China then its probably a shipping warehouse. But maybe its were Apple dose some CTO changes. Like computers are alike from China and Apple has a facility to make customer changes?

The more I think about it Apple would have to have some ability to intercept a computer made in China to make changes or install a last minuet part etc. China is too far away to rely on them for every detail. What if a component is here and not there. Its a lot faster to have the computer sent here and then put the part in then send the part back and forth?

Summery,
I believe that the people who got tracking #'s are computers ready to go from china that can ship to the customer, and others need to go thru "Cordova" for some reason get a tracking #and then down the street to fed-ex.

It explains the out of order shipping. only two identical computers should be assessed for "in order shipping"

Just a thought!

What's with all of this speculation about where they are being built? Apple's manufacturing partners are in Taiwan and China. Not Ireland, not Tennasee, not anywhere in the US or Europe... Asia. Damn near every Apple product I have ever owned was "Designed in California by Apple" and "Made in China."

The purpose of the TN and other US facilities is to ship the orders from within the US, thus avoiding international shipping fees (where possible.) It's much cheaper for them to ship 10 boxes on a palette, then redirect from within the destination country, than it is to ship directly from the factory to the customer. BTO laptops always ship from Asia, and it's possible they add some BTO parts in certain US or European facilities. But primariily, they are assembled and tested in Asian production facilities.

So you're saying that even though I ordered on 6/9 and still don't have a shpiping notice or a tracking number and still have "on or before 8/20" it could be in Cordova waiting to ship?

I wonder if Apple sends out the BTO machines first because these customers actually spent more money on their machines.

Kinda like "OK - you paid the premium to have an Apple installed 250GB HD, so we're going to ship out your machine before all the stock ones."

IMHO Apple should send them out as first come first served. They should try to the best of their ability. It's the only fair way.

From the tracking info some people have goten, I would guess some G5 eather just got to US or will soon. Then, if I'm correct some will be procesed (maby today, tonight, tomarow?) and ship. I dont beleve anything is waiting to ship from Cordova unless it needs somthing they dont have?

Once someone gets A 2.5 and we know there in the US I think there will be lots of notices and shipping updates and such from Apple within a day of there US arival.

*unless the plane broke-down, or crashed!

I've still got my "combo" theory.

It's either that, or we're both getting screwed.

I'm gonna have to go with the screwed... :D

I'm going to have to go with your "screwed theory". Although...the combo theory does sound very plausible. I haven't heard from anyone with a combo drive shipping. I've built mine with the usual add-ons of Bluetooth, Airport Express, 250GB HD, but with a 9600XT card (I'm not much of a gamer, more of a video editor so I have to save up for an add-on video card costing thousands. Also, can't afford a 30" monitor anyway...and by the time I could either a faster video card will emerge for the same price or the 6800 will be priced more reasonable...that's still assuming I COULD afford a 30" monitor...)

So here we are...hey, I have an idea. Why don't we all go to Shenzhen and camp outside. At least now we can all bond and tell stories in person. Oh, wait by the time we reach there, our units may be right over here. Hmm.

Okay, so back to the "screwed theory"...

I know everyone is frustrated, but since nobody has actually received one yet, it's a bit premature to say anyone is getting screwed and that they're arriving out of order from Apple. We'll only know for sure once people start reporting they actually have had their's delivered and no one has so far.

Unfortunately, they aren't doing a very good job of it. :(

Dose anybody know they are not shipping in order? I mean if your 2.5 was orderd first and is to get a combo. and that part is not avalable today and another 2.5 orderd after yours gets a SuperDrive and it is ready to go. Apple is not going to hold this second computer untill the first order is ready. Its only unfair if two IDENTICAL 2.5 are shipped out of order.

I think I've found the problem! Grab the jaws of life! Quickly now!

CURRENT SHIPPING STATUS!!!!

I just talked to a friend who is a pilot for Fed-Ex and here is what he found-out after logging in to Fed-Ex from home.

There is one flight from SHENZHEN CN a day.
It is approximately an 8 hr flight to US
SHENZHEN CN. is 13 hrs ahead of central US time.
Today at 1:00 PM Central US time, Aug. 3 / it is 2:00AM Aug. 4 in SHENZHEN
The Fed-Ex flight left China at 8:23 PM Aug 3 SHENZHEN time.
as I type this (1:00 pm Central) the plane has been in-flight 5.5 hrs.
The plain is scheduled to land in Memphis about 4:00 PM today.

Here is some other info from his experience.
-Daily international routes are more frequently changed and canceled if the plane is not full enough. (looking at hotwire132002's tracking info it looks like to plain didn't leave on monday the 2nd.)
-Packages are generally scanned as they are unloaded, but pallets of packages from the same shipper my be scanned when separated.
-The accuracy of there real time tracking info is considered the best.
-There are some daytime flights, but the vast majority are at night, the main package sort is afternoon for that nights flights.

I think some people will see there 2.5 tomorrow...

I do believe that Apple is doing their best on sending out the 2.5's. Continued patience is the order of the day. I think that having this forum to voice frustrations is very helpful.

Weak.

Looks like my box didn't make the 8/3 plane out of shenzhen, here's hoping for 8/4

I've been patient and calm up until now, not really surprised at the delay on apple's side, I didn't honestly expect anything to ship much before 7/30 and as such I was not dissapointed by all that. But this fedex thing is pissing me off. It was shipped on friday the 30th and is still sitting in sh*tphot china. I don't know if it is a customs delay or what, but that fact that its just **sitting** over there for no compelling reason aggravates the hell out of me. PUT IT ON THE PLANE, FEDEX. Don't make me come over there.

Well.. problem with transport companys.. that box with that brand new G5 SHOULD be at Fedex China.. But it isn't.. it was there allright,.. but someone spotted it and got away with it in China..

Now some Chinese farmer has an automatic rice irrigationsystem powered by a Dual 2.5 G5..

At least yours is somewhere near the plane. I don't even know whether mine has been born yet. And I ordered on the first day!

You know it's possible, and I'm just throwing this out, that for one reason or another some of you got the "It's shipped!" email when it was ready to leave China but the rest of us who ordered early could still very well get the "It's shipped!" email once it's ready to leave the US. I don't know, it's sounds far fetched... but it's possible.

I have to agree. I was told by my contact at FedEx that I might see my unit tomorrow or NO LATER than the end of the busines day on Thursday. :)

Ordered stock unit 6/10/04.

Two questions here:

Anybody from Canada have a shipping notice yet ? It is not my case ...;-( even though i ordered a normal config (plus 1 gig RAM) early the 9h of june.

Anybody (from anywhere!) got a shipping notice monday or tuesday ? It just seems no new shipping has appened since the small one on friday (and saterday) It would confirm the rumor that stated only a few would ship on time and the rest of us would wait a long time ....

It is also posible that there are many computers on one palett and not every one has the most current scan from china. The plane that has the computers that have tracking #'s on it will land and unload later today. I'm hanging tight, I think alot will update soon and there are alot more computers landing today than have tracking #'s.

I haven't gotten any new Apple e-mails since Saturday, but my order status date has stayed firm at August 09.

...Maybe they're sending a shipment out every weekend.

I got my shipping notice at 5:30 AM ET Monday morning.

I bet there are G5s on that plane that don't have a customer assigned to them yet. Possibly the folks that ordered Bluetooth are getting that customization done in the States and those will ship shortly after arriving here. If certain orders are coming to the US for their customizations, then it is quite possible that they are shipping in order. Maybe brykken, the G5 is already slated for you, but it's taking longer to get the customizations into it and get it on its way to you.

[edit] Honestly, I really feel you guys and gals that are waiting for shipping notices. It was a relief to me just to know my G5 is in FedEx's shipping process now, even if it takes them a couple days longer than I'm expecting.

That would be fantastic. It's quite possible too, but I am afraid of getting my hope up just to be let down. :(
