Sweet! And the photo with the FedEx guy was hilarious. Seeing the pictures was just like looking at porn...you know. From the box to opening, I was thinking...take it out, take it out! Then the pictures go closer and closer...damn I almost hit my forehead on my screen.

Questions:

1. OS X version and build number
2. Bluetooth and AE antenna? Did you order both? If so how does it look like?
3. Any noise you hear from the liquid cooling pump?

1. OS X version 10.3.4 build 7L32

2. AE antenna--But no card (I'm in the same room as the network wiring)

3. No noise. All I can hear is the fans, which are pretty darn quiet.

Hotwire,

First off, you're the man. Congrats.

Questions based on G5 issues I have read about:

1. Impressions of speed. Is it noticably snappier?
2. Sound, sound, sound? How quiet is this sucker?
3. Can you put it to sleep and does it wake up again?

That's all I can think of for now. Any general impressions would be appreciated.

1. Well, I used an iMac 17" 800Mhz until now, so it's definately much much much faster than that. Comparing with the Dual 2.0 I've tested at the Apple Store, this seems a good bit faster.

2. Louder than my iMac, but much quieter than my PC (like that tells you anything). I'll say when I'm playing Weird Al at 50% of the max volume, I can't hear the system at all.

3. I'll test it out and reply again.

Now that the first wave is shipping.........

Finally, a believable report that someone has received a 2.5GHz G5! Hotwire, congratulations!!! Thanks for the photos. I especially liked the ones of the FedEx truck and inside G5 shots. I look forward to your comments and eventual review.

Now that machines are arriving in the first wave I wonder how many were shipped? 500, 1000, ????. How many are actually on back order? I know mine is. This includes all the resellers, schools, Apple on-line and the bricks & mortar stores. Could this number be 5,000, 10,000, more?

Last logical question is how many are they building this month???

Anyone have info, guesses, wild speculation?

hotwire, thanks for keeping us informed and be part of your new "baby".

Btw, as odo asked what video card did you get? Did you do a walk-thru around the unit? How is the manufacturing quality? Flawless?

Video card is 9600XT. The system is definately flawless.

amazing how you can upload a photo-album, install the G5 and answer all these questions right away. Thanks man!!

That's excellent news to hear. At least they didn't rush it out unlike my first TiBook. I can't wait any longer for mine. I'm shaking...gasping...twitching...

Now why don't we let hotwire have some quality time with his new g5 without us asking questions all of the time.. ;)

enjoy

Congrats on your new machine!

Mine, per FedEx, shall be here tomorrow morning. :)

I ran CineBench (the non-G5 beta version).

I've never used it before, are the results the data in the "Console" window? If so, I'll post them in as soon as I hear that that's correct. Then, I'll take a break from the board for a little bit.

I'm happy for you hotwire. I'm lazy... don't want to review 1,100+ posts, so when did you order yours? My 6/17 order has been stuck at "on or before 9/20" since friday...

Yup take a break, dude. Many thanks again for sharing the experience. That was a tough act to follow - unpack, take pictures, download and upload info, and answer questions in the forum all at the same time. Phew.
