Apple knew they could not ship in mass quantities in July (as per their promise) thats where they failed and that is poor customer service on their part.
Duff-Man says....when did Apple ever *promise* to ship "mass quantities" in July? They didn't. And if you'll recall the notes from the quarterly results conference call, it was said that supplies would be very constrained. If you are going to make petitions and complain, at least make sure you have your facts right....oh yeah!

Well quotes become quotes and you are right with whay you said. Also Apple did meet ALL obligations to the consumer by shipping 1 device in July....One thing your wrong on though, is I never started a petition as you quoted, thats why quotes become quotes becareful of your facts.

Duff-man,

I think what he's saying is that the mass delivery was implied by the fact that everyone who pre-ordered got a 7/30 date...at least prior to 7/30.

Of course, without the internet none of us would know how widespread that delivery estimate actually was...hmmm, it is interesting from a legal standpoint.

Anyone elses fedex data vanished? This morning it said that i should recieve my 2.5 before 10:30a tomorrow. Now that has vanished and it just has the data from Aug 2 (when it sat in china). Darn fedex database.

Still there for me. Although I don't trust their accuracy for tomorrow's delivery since hotwire was slated for yesterday and it changed only in the afternoon. So I'm guessing it will REALLY arrive Friday.

Yeah, that's probably my fault from checking my tracking info every five minutes. Guess I hit refresh one too many times. Sorry about that.

Yeah, but, if you add the same amount of time to our tracking status that it took for Hotwire to get his once the "Left FedEx Ramp" in Shenzhen was added, we should be on schedule for tomorrow. Don't burst my bubble. It's a thin bubble, but it's all I've got right now. Besides, if it's on a truck for delivery tomorrow, my boss, who by the way is not LeonPro :), is letting me work from home. It will be interesting to see what kind of performance I get from the new Mac using the CISCO VPN client and MS's Remote Desktop Connection. It's not bad now, but the G5s are supposed to have improved networking and the processor power will surely beat my G3 B&W. Wouldn't you think?

If I don't have "On truck for delivery" in the morning, then I'll go ahead and go to the office. I wonder if it would be more fun to work for LeonPro? Everyone at my office harasses me for being a Mac user, and it didn't help when they found out how much cash I dropped for this Mac. What they don't know is that I paid $2000 for my first inkjet printer (HP Deskjet 1200C) back in 1995 and just paid it off last year. That technology sure has come along way in 9 years, huh? I've never been opposed to paying good money for products I believe to be the best. No, I'm not wealthy... yet.

Apple did NOT meet all obligations.. Many people had 30 July delivery dates who are still waiting for their macs ( I am one). Apple did not quoted how many macs would ship but they were obligated by delivery deadlines to deliver on or before 30 july. They have therefore not met their obligation.

Apple made that promise when Apple gave mass numbers of people the July ship date. It doesn't make sense that on the day before they were to ship that Apple suddenly realized they couldn't meet the demand. These computers arn't built in a day, Apple must have known that all the orders couldn't go out on 7/30 long before the delay emails were sent. Had they been more responsible, they would have kept customers better informed and told them earlier.

I think people here are annoyed only partly due to the delays. It is clear that these orders are being shipped out of order, and thats what really pisses people off. I'm not talking about computers with exotic upgrades like the Geforce 6800 either; people with orders containing bluetooth, hard drive upgrades, ram upgrades, video card upgrades have all gotten their orders shipped. Theres no excuse why other orders containing the same components can not be shipped.

jdhuskey...haha. Did I sound too pessimistic with the delivery schedule? Okay, okay. I am just trying to console myself in case...but I am hoping to see the update by tomorrow that its on the truck for delivery. Yahoo!!!

You caught me, I'm not your boss. But wouldn't it be fun to work in a Mac environment. I'm a sucker for technology and I wouldn't hesitate to plunk down on gadgets that I know would enhance my living and working experience. Not rich either...at least not, yet.

Here's hoping we get our G5 tomorrow.

Duff-Man says....not quite. Apple's order status page displays *estimated shipping* dates, not "promised delivery." There is a difference. Hey, I think they should be better at updating the status too, but I think some people are getting a little bit too bent over it....oh yeah!

(serious post here)

I am looking at hotwires photos and it looks like there may be some kind of air filter added to the back of the processor enclosure. Does anyone else have that panel at the back on their Rev.B 1.8 or 2.0?
Isn't that the radiator?

Anyway, congrats to those lucky few who got theirs today, and let's hope Apple figures out a way to improve its ordering and shipping system...

Duffman, I have read all your comments on this particular forum, and it seems you and some others feel that its not a big deal for Apple not to inform their customers better in this situation. Thats fine, as your entitled to feel however you want, but what if Apple sent you an email telling you that your computer was going to be delayed another 6 weeks? What if they told you it would be another 6 months? Keep in mind other people who ordered after you would be getting them before you. Would you not be upset? Would you not be getting more "bent" over it? Obviously there is a point where the delay would be too long for you because it would interfere with whatever you have to do with it. That point, because of many reasons (some work, some school, ect) has arrived for some people on here, and why you (as well as others) have been critisizing them for wanting to voice their opionion is stupid. And to whoever said that the petition is not going to do anything- Is this your view on voting as well? Not once has 1 vote ever made a major political difference, so why would you ever vote? No one forced you to sign the petition, but it makes a lot of sense. Also, someone brought up how Microsoft delayed Longhorn. Well, show me someone that has an confirmed estimated ship date from Microsoft Longhorn and then you have an arguement. There is a big difference between Microsoft projecting it would be done with Longhorn by 2005 and then pushing it back, and Apple taking $3000 from people, giving them a ship date without the intention of actually meeting it, and then being totally uncommunicative to its loyal customers. I absolutely love Apple computers, but a complany can make great stuff and still have room to improve in other aspects of business. Again, as other posters have said, you honestly think Apple didn't know it would make the ship date until the day before? I think a lot of the people buying 3000 + dollar computers NEED them, and its not a toy, but rather a business tool, so time is money. It's understandable for cutting edge stuff to be late, especially in pre production, but to ship out of line, and not adequetely communicate with the consumer is not acceptable.

I wonder how long it takes FedEx to update their status. I was expecting an Anchorage AK entry by now. Still when I was following Hotwire's status last night, I didn't see any of his updates until about 6 AM ET this morning. Then by 9:30 AM ET it was on a truck for delivery.

HELP!

Does Anybody know who I can get in touch with at Apple to find out what ACTUALLY is going on with my order, why it ACTUALLY is being delayed, and when it will ACTUALLY ship?

After 5 phone calls, 3 emails (no responses), and perusing these forums constantly the preverbial s**t is about to hit the fan in the form of me canceling my G5 and ordering a PC. Waiting two months and seeing my order being ignored still (while others who ordered much later are getting shipping notices) has made me lose all my confidence in Apple Support, the company itself, and their ordering system.

Where can I get information? Can anyone help me? :(

I tried this...

Today I have called a rep, and got the "I am not sure why your oder is delayed, and other orders are shipping ahead of yours. Maybe it is a component that your CPU is configured with"

Then I emailed the rep that I placed my order with. Her response was "This whole shipping process is so messed up" She did some checking and wrote back that no one is telling her anything that would help her explain it to me. She was sorry that she could not be more of a help.

I am not sure what to try next.

<rant>OK, I don't care how delayed any order got, there is no way I'd order a lousy PC instead. Quite frankly, the constant whining in here by a select few individuals is getting rather old and tiresome. If you want to cancel your order and get a PC by all means go on ahead. Dual 2.5s are not "vaporware" obviously, so please spare us from all of this ridiculous whining and get a life please. Just call Apple and once and for all either get it straightened out or cancel your order and move on. Thank you.<rant off>

One thing you've forgotten...

You can run OSX on PCs now...

Thank you, PearPC! :D

Oh, and I'd love to call Apple and straighten out, but I have no idea who to call. Which was the purpose of my last post, to ask who might know...

Now stop trying to cause arguments and disagreements. Let's try to keep a cool head, shall we? :)

jdhuskey...dude I think you better check your FedEx right now cos mine finally changed to "Left FedEx sort Facility" from Anchorage, AK as of 4.30pm today. Does that mean it will make it to SF by tomorrow?

hotwire...you the man! I don't think I can follow suite and post a photo of my FedEx delivery person. That was still the best. I hope tomorrow cos I will be leaving for LA in the afternoon for the weekend. I know, I know. Sounds crazy to leave it alone, but this was a plan already. So I'm just basically waiting to receive it then leave.
