Hotwire, can you run Xbench and ThermographX on your new unit and post results? :)

I have a G4 400 as well, soon to be replaced by a 2.5 G5 with a 6800 Ultra DDL card.

When I ran the test I got a "31" for the single cpu test. Oh, and my machine is so obsolete that my ATI Rage card is not powerful enough to run my newly arrived 23 inch display.

I ran into the same problem with my dual 450 when my 17" Studio Display died. That had a returned 20" display, but my card was too old. I decided not to spend the $450 for a new card.

hotwire...you the man! I don't think I can follow suite and post a photo of my FedEx delivery person. That was still the best. I hope tomorrow cos I will be leaving for LA in the afternoon for the weekend. I know, I know. Sounds crazy to leave it alone, but this was a plan already. So I'm just basically waiting to receive it then leave.

I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. I want to follow the tracking process all night. If FedEx can keep up the pace they had for Hotwire, then jeffdr, LeonPro, and I should see ours in the morning. :D

 To all you guys who seem to be offended when someone else is upset, knock it off. Don't bother reading or posting if it's just to go off on someone, unless they are spreading misinformation. The fact remains that regardless of how hard Apple may be trying to get this right, they've really dropped the ball for a lot of their loyal customers. There is either a supply problem, or a serious mistake has been made in their order system. If they'd just explain the supply problem or own up to the mistake, then most of the customers still waiting could accept that and cut them some slack. It doesn't matter that the ship dates were only "estimates" not "promises." These ship dates set customers' expectations. Apple had to know long before Friday that they couldn't make 7/30 for most of us. Yet they waited until the very last moment to update the status. No explanations... nothing. Come on, that's just not good business. I don't think anyone here is mad at other customers, or even necessarily with Apple, certainly not the CSRs that can only tell us what they've been told - nothing, however, when you're disappointed and frustrated, your fellow Mac enthusiasts should be MATURE enough to let you vent/rant without chewing you for it. What is most surprising is the number of people complaining about the complaining when they didn't even order anything and are not emotionally involved. Yes, Mac lovers are usually emotional about their Macs. If you just want to gripe at someone for being upset and frustrated, then go somewhere else. This forum gives them a place to vent while they wait, unacceptably uninformed, for some notice of shipment. I support them. Someone, somewhere in the ranks at Apple has information that should be passed on to the customers that are seeing others be served incorrectly ahead of them. God love 'em, but shame on Apple for not communicating. They definitely need improvement in this area. For the record, I would never buy a PC instead of a Mac, for any reason! Hang in there if you can, invaLPsion, brykken, SwitchingSoon and others, albeit later than it should, it will come.

LeonPro, I'd love to work in a Mac environment. I connect to about 10 PCs (my laptop and a bunch of servers) using MS's Remote Desktop Connection, all from a G4 just so I can stay mostly in the Mac environment. The stuff on your website is really cool, but there were a few QT vids that wouldn't load. Still, what I did get to see was way cool! Why do I have to be a programmer in a Windows environment? :(

I got mine!

I just received mine this morning. Ordered CTO config online via the Apple Store for Education on 07/02/2004 with the following items.

Dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5
065-4803

1GB DDR400 SDRAM (PC3200) - 2x512
065-4976

250GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
065-4982

8x SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
065-4928

ATI Radeon 9600 XT w/128MB DDR SDRAM
065-4892

56k V.92 modem
065-5168

Apple Keyboard & Apple Mouse - U.S. English
065-4923

Mac OS X - U.S. English
065-4897

Accessory kit
065-4894

Just got home right now, so I finally get to open the box. My previous Mac was a 400Mhz G3 iMac DV so this should be huge improvement.

If someone ordered a dual 2.5 G5 when they were announced they were under the impression that their computer would ship at the very end of July. They knew that Apple would take their three thousand dollars and they wouldn't get anything in return for two months. Obviously if they had something they needed it for during those two months then ordering it and then being angry about having to wait 2 months is completely ridiculous. If you needed the computer in those two months then you should have bought something else available. Now Apple stated that supplies would be constrained so depending on demand it was very plausible that Apple would not be able to ship everybody's computer out on the same day. Technically, Apple never failed to meet their estimated ship date as many computers were shipped starting on July 30th. They have sent emails to people whose computers would not be able to be shipped and only pushed it back 3 weeks, not 6 weeks not 6 months. Apple might ship before that after they get through this initial back up anyways. If these 3 weeks really angered you or hurt your productivity then you have reason to complain or ask for some compensation. As to why people who ordered after you are getting their machines first you can't compare different machines. I'm sure that Apple is sending the machines in the correct order if they are identical. If Apple has machines and parts for one customer you want them not to ship that person his computer just because they are short on the parts needed for your computer? That sounds a little selfish to me. You don't want anyone else to have what you don't yet either. If Apple really isn't shipping in the correct order on identical machines then of course that is not right and that would be a reason to be upset. People are getting far too worked up about this whole situation. This initial back up of orders is going to get worked out within one month and then everyone will be happy.

Isn't that the radiator?

Anyway, congrats to those lucky few who got theirs today, and let's hope Apple figures out a way to improve its ordering and shipping system...

No, the radiator is on the other side of the heatsink. Does anyone see the panel-filter looking thing I'm referring to on the power cord end of the machine in Hotwire's photos?

I'm just curious what that is.

It is 1.25Ghz. I wonder if Xbench just didn't recognize that because the system is too new? I know System Profile says 1.25Ghz:

Congratulations, tjpigot! Not to keep your hopes up, but I'm betting it's in the process of your credit card being charged for the last time to make sure there are funds to allocate to them and that they may send you a shipping notice before the day ends. It happened to me and then I got the shipping notice a few hours later. Here's hoping for you.

Reseller deliverys

Anyone who ordered from a reseller have any information on their G5? Mine is giving me the "who knows when they will show up line?"

jdhuskey, same here. How will I get to sleep...in any case I fall asleep I bet my finger is still twitching from the constant reload button on FedEx's site. If they do keep pace as with hotwires, I hope us three can receive the units tom.

Kudos to your monologue. I feel for the on-going confusion with regards to the shipping status. Of course I'm happy that mine was in the first few batches, but at the same time it could happen to anyone. I seriously don't know how they got to select who's units will be shipping next as basically everyone had various combinations to negate any theory of lacking parts. So let people who are angered with the current state vent out and voice their frustration. As long as no one is getting hurt and attacked personally, its all for the purpose of the forum.

Thanks for the kind words on my web site. I wanted something simple to navigate. Partly because I don't know Flash, and partly because I am running a PBG4 500MHz for my Adobe CS1.1 - which you can imagine the countless spinning beach ball hours. The videos are out-dated almost a year and I am just waiting for the faster computer (surely an understatement) in order to work on my videos and web site once more.

A programmer will rake in lots of money. In being into independent film productions...well, there is truth in being a "struggling artist." But the G5 will change all that! Wa ha ha ha! *insert thunder and lightning effects here* Yes sir...though I don't know how or why. Damn.

That's the new forum rule. hotwire started it with the ubber cool FedEx photo. I seriously doubt anyone can beat that. Ha ha ha.

Anyway, just kidding. I do hope to see pics of more G5s being unpacked and how it looks in their respective home environment. If there are any unusual included accessories, Id love to see it. Thanks for sharing, guys, and hope everyone receives theirs soon.

Anyone order from MacMall?

Has anyone else here ordered from MacMall? I have one on order and the last I was told is that they expected a shipment on Fri, Aug. 6th. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but would like to hear if anyone else has heard anything.

this seems to be the key weather yours has shipped or not.
As far as I read in several forums no 9800 or 6800 equipped machine has shipped yet.
Ordered mine on 6/9 with the Radeon 9800, pushed back to 8/20 (from 8/2).
I'm pretty tired of the wait right now but cancelling is not an option because I've waitet long enough already (I'm one of the fools who expected new PowerMacs for January).

cheers.

I don't know if there's holdups, but hotwire was good to go with a stock card, ram addon, and bluetooth.
