Did you have your power set on "Highest" in your Energy control panel? These numbers aren't much higher than a 2.0GHz unit. Compare here >>

See...still not sleeping.

I'm curious, is there anyone whose unit has shipped that ordered either a 9800XT or 6800 vid card? Now I'm thinking that's the reason for the delay for the others.

I expect photos, reviews, inside radiator shots, audio fan level noise comparison mp3's, and benchmarks from EACH & EVERY one of you (ha ha ha ha ha). However, feel free to post shots and impressions if you can. It'll give the rest of us something to help us wait.

I don't know if there's holdups, but hotwire was good to go with a stock card, ram addon, and bluetooth.

I ordered 6-25 250HD/SD/BT/wireless Key&Mouse/stock ram & video card. Shipping date is the generic 8-20.

I'm going to try and get my FedEx man to open mine and take of picture of him unpacking it! :) :D I better get to bed. He's suppose to be here before 10:30AM. :) I'll never sleep tonight!

Ha ha. How about wearing a Zoro mask? Okay, better sign off now and check the status tom morning. Sigh. Night guys.

man alive, this turned into one exciting thread. I can't wait to get mine now.

Haven't seen anybody from the Netherlands yet...
I've ordered two "standard" G5 2.5 GHz machines from a local dealer. They said the G5s would be delivered first week of August.(update : just got an email, they said that Apple couldn't give them an exact shipping date, and that they will know more next week :( ) So add me to the stats!! :) As soon as I know more, I'll post it here.

isn't so, that there are different machines for different country's? Well, they are the same hardware, but the boxes and manuals are different. mine has an azerty keyboard instead of qwerty. and the manuals should be dutch and french. my point is, wouldn't it be normal if apple start shipping machines that a certain percentage would go to other country's? or would they be cruel to the rest of the world and just ship the first 10 000 to the states?

If not, some of us here in Belgium or the Netherlands should see their machines very soon..

Well, I can only hope they have reserved a thousand or so for each country for the initial shipment.. but i'm not getting my hopes up.. my reseller (itpro) says "in august", but says it could very well be the end of august

FedEx on crack...

Well, being up late and anticipating the arrival of my G5, I decided to do a search to see where FedEx's sort facilities are. Well, good news is there is one only 10 miles from my house...and as a bonus I stumbled upon this rather amusing story...

http://www.tcnj.edu/~hofmann/FedEx.htm

Curious about movement...or lack of

I phoned FedEx earlier today and they didn't have any idea of where the package was. I was told that they would put a trace on it and someone would get back to me ASAP. I asked when I should reasonably expect a response, they told me "ASAP". THANKS.
So I wait SEVERAL hours and then call back, only to find out that there was no record of any trace being initiated. So I ask where the package is and when I should receive it (mind you that the Web indicates that it left Anchorage at 4:30pm and it's now around 10pm).
The friendly customer service person tells me that it's in transit from China.
I ask, about the Anchorage facility. She tells me, "Well, yes I see that on my screen, but I don't see a physical scan, so I didn't quote that".
So basically (as we're learning) the "Detailed Shipment Tracking Results" don't mean much more than a broken clock (could be right, could be a wild ass guess, depends on the time of day). Anyway, I was told that if "everything goes right" I should have my package in the morining.
WTF does that mean? Why wouldn't everything go right? Why hasn't anything gone right?
The friendly voice then tells me that it will have to clear customs in Indianapolis and that "That's all I can tell you except for repeating myself, which I'm starting to get tired of".
Well I was tired of it a long time ago. I would be very happy if someone would just tell me that they had no idea of when I would receive my package. At least I'd feel that they were being honest. Per FedEx published expectations, IP Direct Distribution packages should be received within 2 to 4 days. In fairness, today (Aug 5th) is actually the 4th business day.
I just wish that FedEx hadn't told me that it would be delivered on Aug 4th.

So I guess I should really be happy. I know there are a lot of people that have ordered these machines that still have to focus their frustration toward Apple. I have risen beyond that and now focus on FedEx.

I can't help but wonder how all of this would playout without the Internet.
Let's see, I'd probably still be working in IT and not even care about Macs.
I'd be making a boat load of money (probably 3x what I make now) and I'd be asleep right now because I'd have to show up at an office in about 6 hours. I'd probably have a newer and faster car in my garage, and possibly even looking forward to the commute. Instead, I get to make my own hours, do work that I actually enjoy and that allows me to be artistic.
I no longer have to wear designer suits, I can work in shorts or a kilt...and if my hair actually grew anymore, I could wear it as long as I'd like.
And thanks to the Internet, I can bore thousands of people with my venting.

iAm tired of poor customer service

You get a picture of your FedEx guy delivering the G5 and serving him tea and cookies and I'll donate $100 to your favorite charity.

No, I love my country, but it's just so small (terrible small) :)

be sure to visit antwerp, gent and bruges, they're some of the nicest cities we have.

Completely OT, but i also recommend Bruges. Spent a long weekend there a few years ago, by accident, rather than design. Was heading for northern france, but we decided to turn left rather than right, when we came out of the Tunnel, and stopped in Bruges just 'cause we needed to stop for lunch.

Stayed there the whole time. Absolutely beautiful town, nice food, great shops, lovely people.

Check it out, anyone who finds themselves in the vicinity!

Now:- back to the G5s....!

As long as we're going OT

I was in Brussels earlier this year.
I was there to DJ in a club called "La Doudingue" (sp?).
Before my set, I went into this dressing room (it's a huge venue that also houses some type of theater group) and started making a song in Garage Band. Thanks to the nifty microphone on my old Titanium, I was even able to add some vocals.
I use a system called Final Scratch by Stanton (Google it) which allows me to play any audio file (.aiff, .wav, .mp3) and manipulate them the same as I would vinyl. Essentially, I have 2 vinyl records with timecode on them (starts at 00:00:00 and goes to 15:00:00) the timecode is sent to the computer via a USB audio interface. The USB interface also sends the selected audio back to the mixer. So the record acts like a big jog-shuttle control for the wave file. I can cue, scratch or even play a file backwards.
Cutting to the quick, the song went off very well. It was the first song of my set. Everything else after that was a bit of a let-down (for the crowd).
It appears that the Belgium dance crowd (at least at this venue) were more into French and Dutch House, than the old fashioned American House.

Anyway, that's my Brussels and kewl Mac story.

iAm a DJ...sometimes

Which version of Final Scratch are you running on your Powerbook. Im having a lot of problems with mine. So much so, I may have to ditch it totally and move over to the new RANE SCRATCH system.

I'm running FS 1.5 on an old 667 with 512mb.
I feel your pain. I know a few people who've ditched it and gone to spinning CDs. Anything beats lugging vinyl through customs.
I've found that the weak link is getting good timecode to the system.
I've started taking my own (known good) cartridges, licking the cartridge contacts to the tonearm, making sure that the cartridge is locked down well. I also take along a stylus cleaning kit. All of this seams to help, but I still end-up restarting the sytem at least twice during a 2 hour set.
I talked to the guys at Rane a while ago, and their system wasn't ready.
My next idea is to start taking a live chicken, some prayer books, and a VooDoo priestess with me on the next gig.

iAm fed up with poor technology

FedEx Status

Just checked my FedEx status.
They've added a comment to the Aug. 4, status in Shen Zhen China.
The new comment says, "Delay beyond our control"...with a timestamp of 9:40pm on Aug 4th.

So instead of good information, I'm getting finger pointing.

iAm amazed at the lack of good communication

Yeah add me to the list as well, i am getting stock with a reseller adding another gig of ram later. My reseller said this morning that their shipping information has not changed for weeks.

starting to get impatient
