yes, saw that too, I bet that's not what really happened, it's just the status page that's completely screwed up :)

EUROPE

Has anyone in Europe got a 2.5Ghz yet? My UK reseller says I will have mine 12th July? (then again he's been promising every 2 weeks since july) Any in the UK yet?

Is it just me..or has your G5 gone china-> anchorage->china->Indianapolis??

Not necessarily, don't forget there's a 16 hour time difference between China and Anchorage. So the G5 might have arrived in Alaska before it left China. (Not really, of course) That's why the tracking record might seem screwed up but it's not. It's just sorted by time and date.

Edit: To clarify what I mean, have a look at the following example:

Leave warehouse in China 08/04 0900
Leave airport in China 08/04 1600
(assumed flight time 10 hours)

Arrive Anchorage Airport 1000 08/04

The tracking record would like this:

Leave warehouse in China 08/04 0900
Arrive Anchorage Airport 08/04 1000 (which is 0200 on 08/05 in China!)
Leave airport in China 08/04 1600

Yeah cheers for clarifying that, you would think they would show a standard time zone ie GMT as well as local time to give people a better idea of where their package is.....alternatively they could work it out themselves.....hmm...or even better show it in local time as well as the time in which the person lives...

Europe (UK)

I ordered my G5LC from the education store on the day of the announcement at 1345 GMT (0745 PST) with a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse and 250 Gb HD, otherwise standard. I was originally due to ship on or before 02/08/04 but have been bumped to on or before 20/08/04. I phoned Apple yesterday but they were unable to tell me anything new. It really doesn't look like Apple are fulfilling orders in the order taken, but are playing favourites with the yanks as usual. No real surprises, then.

I am a little confused on intro dates

My G5 story goes like this.

On Saturday June 5th, bought a G5 2.0G from Apple store.
On either Monday or Tuesday following, found out that 2.5G machines anounced.
On Tuesday June 8, talked to apple on phone and seemed like I could order a machine right then. I did not because I wanted to take my 2.0G machine to the apple store before I ordered 2.5G machine. Took 2.0G machine back to store on June 9th and then ordered 2.5G machine on line while at store.

If I was given the opportunity to order the machine on June 8th on phone, why have I seen a number of posts that seem to indicate that June 9th was the first day that one could order a machine?

Does anyone have any comments on this. What was the real first day of anouncement and when could one actually place an order?

This question has just been rolling around in my head for a while. Wondering if wireless keyboard/mouse is the option that is causing my delay.

Good news for me is that work is sooooooo busy, the days fly by way too fast. Got a deadline approaching, wish days would slow down, but they are speeding up. Bad news is if I got a G5 shipped to me, I would not have a great deal of time to use it at this point.

I am still looking at a 8/20 ship date. No magic emails, no fedex frustration, no posing with fedex employees, no pictures of machine, no triumphant posts of "ME TOO". Not gonna cancel my order, can wait some more.
Apple on two occasions has done really nice things for me in the way of customer service, they get plenty of latitude from me.

Movin' on up

It sounds like you get the prize so far. I am upgrading from an iMac G4-800MHz. This will be the first time in my long Macintosh love affair, when I've had the means to go top-end, and I'm very excited. I have to say this long wait has caused me to rethink the huge purchase price once or twice along the way. Fortunately, my new 23" Cinema arrived this week and that now give me a warm feeling about spending the big bucks.

I'm one of those waiting for Apple and nVidia to perfect the 6800Ultra to deliver me the greatest one-two punch of a computer in history! ( A little overstated, but hey, I have to do something while I'm waiting).

To all those who are receiving their Dual 2.5s this week, congrats! Don't you just love the Internet when you can get excited about someone else's purchase virtually? I followed hotwire's tracking information down to the delivery and thoroughly enjoyed the photo.

To all those with machines right around the corner and complaining about it, get over it! Never expect something on a certain date when you ordered it, and it didn't even exist then. Enough with the conspiracy theories of Apple lies. Ever thought about incompetence? To me, I'd rather take someone that is incompetent than not trustworthy. I'm practical that way -- I work for your Government BTW so I know incompetence. Ordering unreleased products -- that's what we call bleeding edge. When you're on the edge, you're taking risks and noone really knows what to happen.

To that guy who was complaining somewhere here about his business hinging on the receipt of his Dual 2.5 and holding Apple/FedEx liable, maybe you should think about a different line of work.

Just wondering, out of the other people soon to recieve dual 2.5's, is anyone jumping from an older/slower machine than mine?

yeh the whole favouratism thing is starting to wear a bit thin now. I know it doesnt have much to do with when they are released but most other countries in Europe and Aus are closer to where they are made anyway.....not fair.....need i mention ipod mini's?

After reading many of the posts in this thread, I'm almost sure Apple doesn't fulfill orders by date of order.

12th of July 2005 is that!??

I am in the UK, and I havent a clue when I will get mine - my reseller has told me to be patient - yeah right... 7 weeks after placing my order, completely paid up, and I should be patient...

Mine is an old g3 266 beige. I am waiting for a g5 2.5 in aus too. Any news on yours?

I am going through a reseller (Nextbyte) and they say i am in their list for the first shipment they receive, which they apparently ordered pretty much as soon as they came out. When i rang them yesterday to ask what the latest was on their order status they said it hadnt changed, still "awaiting shipping info" or something like that.

Are you buying through a reseller or through apple?

Well, I wasn't concerned with the delay note in China because the scan in Anchorage was 1 hour and 35 minutes later than what yesterday's shipment showed. That delay in China was 1 hour and 25 minutes of that. I just don't understand why the delay note showed up after the Anchorage note.

Anyway, it's not important now, because I just refreshed the FedEx tracking status, and it's in my town already. No other scans between Anchorage, AK and Alpharetta, GA. I expect to see "On Truck For Delivery" any minute now. Woo hoo! :D

Arrived at FedEx Destination Location*
ALPHARETTA GA

I'm upgrading from what I think was a Rev A G3 B&W 233-300 MHz (honestly don't remember the original speed). It's had a G4 Sonnet upgrade at 500 MHz for 2-3 years. Gonna be a big jump for me too and it looks like it's gonna be today!

Yes I am buying through a reseller; different one but exact same story. In fairness to the dealer he told me not to expect it until the end of August when I ordered on June 19

Have a look at post no. 1356, you might find an explanation there :)

My G5 made it to the states, but the most recent update is-

Held at Sort Facility*
INDIANAPOLIS IN

Anyone know what that means?

Thanks, I did read that, and I understand the differences in the time zones. My concern was caused by when the notes showed up on the tracking page: Shenzhen, Anchorage, then Shenzhen again. The Anchorage note showed up last night. The Shenzhen delay note showed up this morning. It just seems like it could have and should have appeared in the tracking status before the Anchorage note did.

No worries though, since it's already in my town!

[edit] It has something to do with when the local tracking info is uploaded to the consumer tracking system. A new entry just now showed up for the Atlanta Airport facility. This new entry is timestamped earlier than the one I already had for my town.

I guess I should go get in the shower. I don't want to have to do that after it arrives, and it will help kill some time.
