For those who may have ordered from MacMall, I just got some info from a guy there. He says they're receiving a shipment of 15 to 25 this Saturday and "the rest next week." I've been told they have 1200 on order, but I'm a bit doubtful that they will receive the full balance next week.

When I placed my order, I was told there were a little over 200 hundred on backorder so I don't expect to see mine for a while.

When did you place your order?

I wonder if other resellers are slated to get them soon. I know that ClubMac orginally said they would get a limited number of them this week and then more next week as well.

I ordered 6/9 at around 11et... I wonder if I'll be in that first shipment.

[crosses fingers really hard]

Woohoo! Did you order any BT or AE? If so, can I see a pic of their antennas? I am very curious as to how it actually looks like as I've only seen a drawing in the G5 manual. Btw, where is the FedEx guy?

I just received mine this morning. Ordered CTO config online via the Apple Store for Education on 07/02/2004 with the following items.

:( My CTO was ordered 6/17/2004 from the education store, they are still saying on or before september 20th and everyone i called said that is not an error...

but that means i have to turn it off... (taking pics of the inside that is). I do have a quick question for those who have gotten them already. Does your super drive make alot of noise. Mine is very loud and has has a hi pitched sound. Everything else is very quite.

My SuperDrive is pretty loud too. That help?

Aidamahn, what was your config? Just curious on what item you ordered that I didn't that would cause such a delay for you, especially since you ordered it way before I did.

Well another day's wait for me, mine just left IN at 11:30a. Oh well. I'm just frustrated that it seemed to sit on the ground in China for 3 days. It didn't seem to actually move until yesterday.

After playing around with all the new stuff, I got iPhoto all set up (bringing my old photos over, etc.) and have a photo of my setup here. The second monitor isn't hooked up yet, I need to dig up to power adapter.

Speaking of iPhoto, iPhoto 4 on the G5 is MUCH faster than iPhoto 2 on my iMac. I can actually scroll through my photo library without waiting! It's all real-time, i.e., no delays when I scroll around, zoom in/out, etc. I can stand using iPhoto now! :D

Hotwire - just fyi, but I used to keep my mac in the floor too, until the cleaning lady was vacuuming and either bumped it or got too close and gave it a nice static shock. Either way, she seriously messed up the hard drive and I lost a big video project. You might want to get a small stand to put it on.

yeh the whole favouratism thing is starting to wear a bit thin now. I know it doesnt have much to do with when they are released but most other countries in Europe and Aus are closer to where they are made anyway.....not fair.....need i mention ipod mini's?

maybe mine is delayed becuase they found out i'm from Germany..... :p

Congrats! You're going to love it! Can you post photos? I assume you don't have any of your FedEx person :D

Thanks! I already love it. Initial impressions so far is that it's so darn quiet, even more so than my exisiting fanless G3 iMac (haven't had the chance to let it heat up yet). I only got to play with it for about 15 minutes after I set it up but will post photos of it tonight. Don't have any of the FedEx guy, Hotwire did an awesome job of getting that pic!

Thanks for the tip--I'm planning on getting something to put it on, but right now I don't have anything.

I haavew till the Tuesday the 17th: That's when our cleaning lady comes. (Insert suspenseful music here ;) I'll have to make some in GarageBand :D )

It's all part of the suspense, I think... shipping companies could make a fortune if they placed advertising on their tracking sites, so we just have to thank them for their ethics until that happens.

Thats actually a really good idea. I check the tracking site so many times when I'm waiting for stuff.

Is what you are hearing a beeping/buzzing type noise? This has been documented on older G5 and appears to be related to the processor slewing and/or power supply. Mine makes a consistent beeping which increases when, for example, resizing safari windows. Also, it gets signifigantly quieter when changing engergy saver settings from Highest to Reduced. Other than that is is quite quiet. Have pics up soon... a bit of rearranging going on here..

Actually, I was out of desk space. There's no hotwire132002 junior--I'm only 15 here! :D
And suddenly everyones love for hotwire is no more as we all are filled with jealousy and realize that we could not afford a 4000 dollar compuer at 15.

ram problems?

um... i just realized something. From a quick check, it seems that everyone who has had their G5's shipped has upgraded their RAM. Could it be that Apple is short on 256mb DIMMs (used in the default 512mb configuration)? Or maybe Apple is saving those DIMMs for the uncustomized retail orders which use them? All the upgraded RAM configurations for the G5 use other types of DIMMs (512mb and 1gb for the other configurations).

But on second thought, the RAM would seem to be the LEAST likely cause for a delay, since 256mb DIMMs should be quite common and plentiful.

Has anyone with the standard 512mb RAM configuration gotten a shipping email yet?

Mine does the same thing--I noticed it first when I was dragging tracks in GarageBand. I take it that's normal? Is that the "chirping" thing people complained about on the 1.8?

yes, I think it is the same thing. Apparently, if you install the Dev tools you can disable processor Napping by using the CHUD tools. From what I have read this will cure the problem. However, I have also read that APPLE DOES NOT APPROVE of this and it MAY damage the system :( They were also apparently swapping out power supplies for those who complained.

^^^includes sound files^^^

Poeben - my noise only happens when I have something in the super drive, and its makes loud I pitch sound. The motors are also pretty loud as well. Also all of the noise is comming from the the area with the super drive. My guess it is a problem with the 8x super drive.

Could someone who has gotten their 2.5 please post a 'About This Mac' screenshot? And perhaps type 'hwinfo' into Terminal?

Arrival Update

I didn't want to even start the thing until I had everything ready.
But I was on the phone with one of my buds from the Apple Store and he's like, "Hook it up". For one, I forgot that I'd need to purchase a modern mouse for it (Pro mouse is kewl, but not functional enough for the apps I use). I also need a longer ethernet cable and a couple of audio and video cables. So after he insisted, I connected my existing 3 button Logitech mouse and fired it up.

Here's the exciting info:

The new setup app allows you to transfer your settings and apps from an existing OSX machine via FireWire Target Mode.
I'm waiting for the results now. Will post how it works later.

iAm starting to setup the new machine
