A computer glitch would still be scary. It would seem that there would be some human intervention.

Hey solo-act, did you count me in your poll? If not, here are my specs:
Ordered online June 30, 2.5G5, 1GB, 160GB, 9600XT, Bluetooth, 20" display. Estimated shipping still listing as "on or before Aug. 20".

Not sure if it makes a difference that I am in Canada. Any other Canadian orders received their G5s yet??

There's no doubt the Apple order process is jacked up somewhere so this is a good way to determine where.

I didn't bother reading this huge thread, but...
Is anyone buying one of these to run Folding@Home on?
I'd love to have a new G5, but I have AppleCare for my G4 iMac, so I'm obligated to not replace it until 2007...

My guy at PC Mall just e-mailed me this:

"Below is the latest word from Apple

Power Mac 2.5GHz Dual*****
We should be shipped 15 to 25 on Saturday, Monday or Tuesday.* We should be shipped 40 to 50 the next week and 100s a week by the end of August"

I happen to know that at least 350 have already been order from MacMall.

Because the company I work for is huge, they have a buyer who purchases all the computers. When I called him a week ago to see if I had been given a shipping date, they told me Apple cancelled my order. I've been too depressed to even call him back. That's why I called my guy at PCMall to see what the story was. Anyway, I am happy for all of you who have got your 2.5 G5s… and have been greatly entertained by all your posts.

By the way, Hotwire, I was an adult when Apple introduced the Macintosh at the 1984 Superbowl and knew it would change my life. I kind of wish. like you, I had grown up with Macs but they didn't even have personal computers when I was your age. On the other hand, I did have time to date.

No, no Canadian orders shipped... I'm still waiting for my Online Order on June 9 (afternoon) for a G5 DP2.5, 512MB, 160GB, 9800XT, BT, AE with Applecare and .Mac.
 
Just walked in the room and found an email from the apple store, got well excited...

But was just a reminder of the previous email i got telling me the ship date was 8/20.

DOH!
 
i didn't get an email about my airport express order. it came about when expected. first sign of it was the fedex sticker on my door, i drove to the hub and picked it up.

so, i am waiting on my dual 2.5 ordered from the apple store. called em up and did it on the phone around june 14th, give or take a day. it's a build to order with extra ram and hard drive and airport extreme, but with the standard video card. still says the 20th on the order page. so since i didn't get any shipping info on the airport express i wasn't sure i'd get an email about the g5 shipping.

no word yet.

They're probably getting too many phone complaints so they're sending emails to calm us probably.

I think it would look bad for Apple if they claimed the 2.5s were shipping, only to have people set up and order and see there is a 4-6 week wait. I know I'd be frustrated.

My guess is they'll have it up by the end of the month or beginning of September, when they start shipping them in mass quantities.

Has anyone else talked to CDW? They seem behind the ball, especially if it's true that Mac Mall is starting to get G5's in. They don't believe me that people are starting to get their orders... they just keep saying that they are under the impression that they will be getting some of the first G5's that ship because of their relationship with Apple. Well, if it is anything like my relationship with apple, then they won't know a thing until it shows up in their loading docks.

Who else is waiting for a 2.5 from CDW?

Couldn't even play back 2 tracks without skipping no matter how much tweaking I did. I installed DP4 and opened up one of my projects--32 tracks, some comps, but I have no 3-rd party plugins for OS X yet. Not a hitch at all. Everything is very responsive, no annoying (long)pause when arming tracks/inserting plugins. Very happy so far.

Duff-Man says....that's great to hear....I've been planning to upgrade to DP4.x when my Dual 2.5 arrives too....oh yeah!

I got the same email & I can't see the point of it either. Maybe (just maybe, don't get too excited!) this means a machine in build has actually been assigned to us.

or maybe not :eek:

After Panther (which had been available in the shops for a week by the time I received my copy), I decided not to use the Apple store again, but the edu discount proved too tempting.

I'm waiting on CDW as well. They are behind on things. My rep, who is the same that my father's business uses (they have ordered 100s of computers) and seems to know as much as anyone could, says that the first shipment is due on August 31st. He also told me that they just enter in whatever Apple tells them.

My ship dates have gone from July 16th to August 6th to August 31st. My guess is that it could come in earlier, but that's only because they have no idea what's going on. Still, they said their initial order was for 500, so that definitely puts them up there with the big boys. We shall see, I suppose.
