So my dual 2.5 G5 order is still sitting at "on or before 8/20" but today I got an email from apple saying that my copy of keynote shipped today. Did I order keynote? No! It just appeared on my order today, they are not charging me for it, and it is on its way via FedEx. I received no message from Apple saying that they were sending me a copy of Keynote for free. Is this their way of softening the blow before tellingme that I have another delay?

I'm totally confused. Anyone else get this?

Yea I know about this. I have been working with a supervisor at Apple, needless to say my order is STILL screwed up, but yesterday she offered my either Keynote or FCP Express. Which I actually applied a credit towards the new Production suite. Anyway, I guess from what you are seeing they must be offering this to everyone... thats probably why you are getting it.. Would have been nice if they offered you a choice tho.

Mine shipped too!

Will miracles NEVER cease? My order from 6/10 which had been bumped several times to 9/21 shipped, giving everyone hope. Just received this message.
Order Status :Details
Order Status as of 08:28 AM PDT, 08/12/2004 Shipped
Shipped from China for Monday delivery, so hang in there!!!

Mine shipped today too! (Also from Shenzhen). As far as I know, this is the first ADC order to ship.

The only sad thing is that if the past shipping times continue to hold, it'll mean that I won't get my computer until Monday at the earliest. This will be a long long weekend!

Part of the problem shipping from China is shipment must clear customs in Anchorage, before moving on. Also our shipment was delivered to Fedex after hours, so in effect, it will not start moving until next Fedex shipment, which should get it to Anchorage on Friday, our time. Hopefully, it'll clear customs and be delivered Monday, in that Apple will NOT arrange Saturday delivery. (I tried) But looking back on it, it's a hell of a lot better than 9/21!!!

Yes, I've heard of 2 or 3 cancelling their order.

I'm going to assume that was sarcastic.

Yes, and I'm sure you know all of the tens of thousands of people who ordered in June :X

I more and more guess that people who order via a reseller are punished the most. They are last on the list to receive orders even when they ordered early. And they get NO compensation at all. no free shipping, no free keynote, no discount like some got, nothing, zip, nada..

We can't even call Apple to complain. You feel so helpless...

Actually, I did get free overnight shipping by MacConnection. This was a promotion when I ordered on 6/29 and they will honor it also when they send my 2.5....

Final Cut express was already on my G5 order because of the $200.00 off promotion so now this makes sense. Still it comes across as really poor coordination when they don't tell us why they are doing nice things for us.

I would definitely prefer to have Apple contact me with a choice. My wife happens to already own Keynote. Certainly would be very disappointed with two.

Without a keyboard?
Bizarre and not entirely encouraging from a quality-control perspective.

it took me 45 minutes to 'straighten it out'. Why? my serial number was not to be found at apple. yay!

it made me feel like i was somehow taken for a ride or something. Like the only way I would EVER get my g5 delivered 'early' compared to so many would be - it's not a real computer. I almost expect to open it up and see a stack of bricks in there.

maybe i'm dreaming this whole thing....maybe there is no G5... maybe....

I know what you mean. I don't think I will entirely believe it when it does arrive. Maybe they left your keyboard out so that it would have a "more real" quality to it's arrival. ; )

I wonder if I should try to cancel my order to get some freebies. However, Apple hasn't missed their ship date for me (9/03) because I ordered in July with the 6800 Ultra. They might still give me free shipping or something.

So let's see, if I got the 9600XT board I will get weird wind-up toy like noises every ten minutes and video distortion. And if I got the new 23" display it will likely have an overall pink tint to it...

No, I wouldn't be surprised if they are getting a lot of cancellations from people who know how to surf.

I do feel badly for people at Apple with the technical quirks and component delays they are having to deal with. Maybe things are just too 'push push the product out' there lately.

ATI 9600XT - not the card of choice?

Maybe all this is a valid concern. While I still have a chance, perhaps I should downgrade to the NVIDA card or up it to the ATI 9800XT and avoid these issues. What's another 3 to 5 weeks........right?

I was trying to avoid the Apple Store tax and get the free 1 GB RAM from MacConnection. But if I go BTO, Apple store is the only alternative. It would also be nice to have the 250 GB drive and BT built in instead of a dongle.

Any body else feel this way or have an opinion either way?

First off, resellers can order BTO machines - so if you want to preserve your free ram and tax free purchase you still can. At this point in the game, however, who knows how much time it will take to get a BTO machine.

The dongle you can't do anything about, but you can get a 250gb drive for $170 online - much cheaper than apple will have.

Why not wait to hear more about whats going on with the 9600xt. There are barely any of these boards, or the 9800xt's out there. who's to say that the 9800xt won't have the same problem, or be even worse. If there is a problem, apple will replace the board, or fix whatever drivers need to be fixed in a prompt manor (like they did with the original batch of bad 9600's) You can always wait to get your machine and pick up a 9800SE retail ($350), which is faster than the OEM boards that apple offers anyway and will cost you the same amount. Then you can sell your 9600xt on ebay and make some money back!

I'd wait to see how this whole thing pans out before you change your order. You're buying a machine that's highly customizable, so you'll have plenty of options to upgrade things you don't like.

Another G5 Shipping - Maybe

I have a FedEx shipping number but it is not yet registering on the FedEx website. I thought it was a good time to share my whole story - probably no more convoluted than anyone else's but hopefully entertaining nonetheless.

- June 11 - Ordered stock 2.5 G5 plus extra 512MB of RAM with 20" display to be delivered together (hoping the new displays would come out) Delivery Estimate July 31
- Received automatic upgrade to new display
- Learned about $200 off Final Cut Express deal on website so I added it (sales person told me that they needed to charge full price and I would have to return a rebate coupon or it would delay my G5. I agreed
- Received e-mail informing me of delay to 8/20 ship date (Ouch!)
- August 4th, received email that my G5 would ship in 24-48 hours (Hooray!)
- August 6th - After not receiving a shipping notification, I called apple and they said "whoops" that was a mistake. (ooohhhh- that hurt!) Your order won't ship until 8/20. I got a bit peeved with them and decided to split my order so at least I could get my final cut express and 20" aluminum display to tide me over. In addition, they upgraded me to free 2 day shipping for whole order.
- FCE shipped (normal ship notification, 2 days later I got it)
- Display set to ship 8/16
- 8/11 - received notification of shipping for display and it arrived within 12 hours of initial notification.
- 8/11 finally checking into the FCE "rebate coupon" I find out that again "whoops!" there is none. After calling apple back they apologised for the mix up and credited me the $200.00.
- 8/12 Early this morning received notification that my copy of keynote shipped (What the ....?? - I never ordered this)
- 4pm- Finally checked my messages at work from yesterday and found a message on my machine saying that because I received inacurate shipping information they sent me a free copy of keynote. My order would not be shipping for another 4-7 days and left a number to call them.
- 5pm, I saw on the website that my G5 is shipping with a FedEx number that is not yet activated (Hooray! I think...)
- Called Apple to see if this is for real or is this the reason that they sent me keynote? They assured me that my G5 is shipping. I will believe it when I see it on a FedEx truck!

Anyway - like all things apple - I love them for the drama. Wish me luck (my birthday is on Sunday and getting my machine on Saturday would make me very happy :) !)

That was excellent advice. Worth a lot more than 2C. Thank you. :D

Doubt you'll be happy because you probably won't get your computer on Saturday. Apple won't arrange Saturday delivery. Believe me...I tried and tried and they said no way. In any event, Happy Birthday!!!

Do you know where yours was shipping from?

Attn. solo-act

I PM'd you to tell you mine had arrived (08/12/2004) but my stats aren't updated so I thought I'd post!

Thanks for a grand job BTW!

EDIT: 1st Euro, I believe!
