Yes. You have a year from purchase to add Applecare to your system.

So I thought. My reasoning is to only purchase if there is some reason to feel it's, ah, warranted :D

MacConnection and TAFTING

solo-act said:
In the sales profession that behavior is referred to as TAFTING. That means you Tell them Any F**ing ThING to get the sale or keep the sale. --E

Actually, my impression of MacConnection has been positive so far. Whenever I call they seem honest and straightforward compared to the many other jackels I've dealt with. Info given has borne to be consistent and not overly optomistic.

They are between a rock and a hard place, one of which is Apple and their less than sterling Operations Dept. The other is a frustrated customer. Nevertheless, they appear friendly, sympathetic and willing to serve the customer within their power.

If I'm wrong about this please correct me. :)

I have just checked my order status on my 2.5 G5 and I was suprised to find it has been despatched 7:15 tonight from Cork, in Ireland and have been given a tracking number also :D The G5 is being delivered by TNT.

My specs are pretty much stock with the exception of the ATI 9800 and the airport extreme card, (I ordered an additional 512MB from Crucial just to bump it up a bit that has been sat here nearly 2 months now) My order was originally placed on May 16th but it was for a DP 2Ghz machine that Apple upgraded me at no cost when the 2.5 was announced, so I have been waiting what seems almost three months now. Anyway my order was due to ship on the 20th August so hopefully to all other Brits here stuck on the 20th you may find that your machine has shipped a little earlier :)

I will report back hopefully on Tuesday telling you all I have received my new G5. This has definitley cheared me up now :D

!!!

Steve

###### systems have still not been invoiced for any G5 2.5s by Apple, who
are out of stock of every G5 model at present. Our Apple product manager
chases Apple for our back-orders several times per day, and they are adamant
that there is nothing in the UK dealer channel. As far as we are concerned,
Apple are not holding back stock, but simply have no stock. If there really
are people in the UK with that model, we have no idea where they have
obtained them from.

LOL! Someone else came up with this from another thread:

The 10,000th post!

Just a thought. If this thread achieves a 10,000th post, shouldn't we petition Apple to give the lucky poster a free 30" display with appropriate NIVIDA graphic card. The justified frustration would be capped with kind of an ironic and quirky frontier justice, don't you think? What did they give the 1,000,000th iTunes downloader? :D

I'd imagine (s)he paid a dollar and they gave them a song.

I never heard of a prize for the millionth

I've gotten NO reassuring emails at all. Apple's consistency is mmm, er, ah ... inconsistent.
Checking the order wait list spreadsheet It looks like the reassuring emails are only going out in the UK. So maybe there's the part of Apple based out of Europe is acting independently. So far no one in the US has received them. --E

It was 99C actually......

Yeah, you are right. I believe it was the 100,000,000th song. Anyway, all things being relative............. :D :)

I think apple is going to have to contract the entire FedEx fleet in order to deliver all these G5s that are supposedly going out on the 20th.

i am, needless to say, a little bit pessimistic. :rolleyes:

Stat report for the day coming soon....

GeckoHD was having a hard time reading my spreadsheet, but never mentioned whether he saw the "key" or "legend". Its off on the far right of the spreadsheet But here it is for those who happened to miss it.

Abbreviations for configuration of the order.

ADC = Developer Order
EDU = Education order
EDUS = Edu order but univ staff
CORP = Corporate company order
GOV = Government order
RESELR = ordered through reseller
APL STOR = ordered at retail Apple store order (not online)
STK = all stock, or remaining part of the order is stock
1R, 2R, 512R = Ram config
-----so, 512=512meg ram 1R=1gig ram (etc)
AE = airport extreme
BT = Blue tooth upgrade
NM = no modem
250 = Upgrade to 250 HDD
2x250 = Upgrade to two 250 HDD
Si = ordered with preinstalled softw
9800 = 9800 VIDEO CARD
6800 = 6800 VIDEO CARD

With these abbreviations and the color coding its easy to see a lot of info at once. One one page on my generic monitor at 100% zoom, I can see not only 50 orders at once, but their order date, configuration, name, arrival date, est ship date, date of ship announcement.
Without even reading & looking for arrival dates, you can just look at the colors and see who's gotten theirs, who in the USA is next, and who outside the USA is next.

However I'm still hoping as many people as possible will visit GeckoHD's page to input and especially to update their info. People have tended not to do that consistently which is why I keep my own spreadsheet. --E

Maybe Apple is superstitious. Its Friday the 13th, and there has only been ONE report of a shipping announcement. I thought at least one wave of emails would be hitting us by now with so many outstanding 8-20 orders and only one week to go.

STATS: read them yourself here if you want to

152 total orders
Of those, 27 are orders from outside the US.
Of those 27, 2 arrived in the UK, with 6 set to arrive by the 17th.

54 orders with shipping estimates of "on or before" Aug 20
40 orders who's shipping estimate is unknown

12 (I think) total shipping announcements have been made in the last 5 shipping days
at least 54 and up to 94 shipping announcements need to made in the next 5 shipping days.

21 orders have been confirmed as being received since 8-3 (the last 8 shipping days)

I went out on a limb in this post and said that I believed the 8-20 shipping date was going to slip. Who knows, maybe there's thousands stacked up waiting for a couple parts, but not much is happening on our end.

Well... there is that rumor about the guy's friend who works at Fishkill. Maybe there's a heap of G5s just waiting for their processors.

That was significant enough that I put that on the spreadsheet under news clips the night that was posted. I'm hoping thats exactly what is needed to get all these 2.5's flying to their destinations. --E

isn't it a year to sign up for Apple Care?

Yes, you can sign up for AppleCare within the first year. Although the phone support would end after 90 days with purchasing AppleCare. That may be what cal6n was referring.

Probably, because I would understand the wait for the 2.5's with 6800DDL's but there has to be some reason why all the machines were delayed.

I have just called MacConnection...I am "supposedly" either 1st or 2nd in line for the 2.5GHz unit, according to the salesperson back in June, and reconfirmed in July. Today, the salesperson told me that they are expecting shipment on 8/27. Then she said that they did get a limited few in.... but later contridicted herself by saying they never got any 2.5GHZ units in at all. If they have never got a single unit in, I would not be pissed at all...but if they did, and I got skipped over...then that would be really messed-up. :mad:

Anyone got any other info or actually got a 2.5GHz unit from MacConnection? :confused:

I just received a card today from MacConnection - I just called and they said the date is now 9/9/04. I asked her if any had come in yet and she said no, the first batch will all be shipped at once. I am low on the list (their original batch was for 100 units).

I like MacConnection, having used them for other computers and peripherals. They are very reliable and efficient. MacConnection said they still have ipod orders from April that Apple has not yet sent. She said she hopes they ship early, but not to count on it. She also said they had the same problem last year when the G5's first came out......

Apple is doing the best that it can.

I do not think that they are. truly. For instance, just yesterday when I called to get my keyboard (my g5 came without one) they shipped it 3-5 business days. that's not the best they can. What if I didn't have an extra keyboard? would i sit and just stare at this thing after waiting 2 months? a $4000 computer and it's ALWAYS too bad for me.

They should have overnighted....let me pick one up at the apple store...had my computer serial number on record....shipped everyone's computer already - or at least offered some explaination...etc and forever.

their computers are amazing. Their service and attitude is not.
