Does anyone think that Apple maybe using the A5X for the iPad and the A6 for the next iPhone so that the iPhone is the first to get the new processor every year? Currently the iPad ships with a faster processor that makes the iPhone look outdated for over 6 months. As the iPhone is Apple's biggest product, I'd imagine they'd want it to appear to have the best specs with the iPad following a few months later.

Me thinks people have the iPad HD confused with the Apple TV HD

iPad 3 and Apple TV HD.

This makes the most sense. I'm not saying an iPad HD would sound weird but what would Apple call the next iteration of iPads? Returning to the number pattern would be useless then hence why I believe it'll just be the iPad 3.

I'm really excited for an updated Apple TV too! Kind of unexpected so I'll welcome the spec bump! (Hopefully it'll also come with the Hulu app as well)

It might be a dumb question but... say I went to the US with my UK Ipad running on 3G... would my Ipad work in the US if I put either a Verizon or At&T sim because of this 4G?

iPhone -> iPhone 3G -> iPhone 3GS

Since the iPhone 3G was really the iPhone 2, and the iPhone 3GS was the 3.
By that logic, the NEXT iPad will be the iPad 4!

iPad -> iPad 2 -> iPad 4G -> iPad 4!

hey cool! another big iPod that I will use for 6 days and then find nothing useful to do with it!

Her comes a simple solution for you: don't line up. Don't preorder. Leave the iPad you would buy and complain about to someone who have a need or appreciation for it.

Another Apple controlled leak to find out where the leaks are coming from...

You think Apple is really going to confuse consumers by offering 3 variations of cellular connectivity? 3G, Verizon LTE, ATT LTE... not happening
My thoughts exactly! Such limitations would also reduce the resale value of the iPad because each model would have a more limited market.

If you went to the US with a GSM iPad it will roam onto a US GSM network (AT&T or T-Mobile)

I think it's more about which chip is ready for mass production and has suitable energy consumption at the time that the device is introduced. The A6 is not ready to go to mass production yet.

Great point.

I would have thought they wanted iPad to have the newest processor. One of it's main advantages besides screen size is processing power.

New Apple TV will need a5X for 1080P. New iPad will have quad core a6.

4G/LTE for the UK...

As I live in the UK and know basically nothing about phone signals etc.
If the iPad comes out in a LTE/4G option etc, will a 3G sim still work in it okay?
I plan to get one of the LTE/4G models to be futureproof, but 4G isn't expected here till something like 2014 :(

Does anyone know if an LTE version would work in Europe, even if it would just revert to 3G?

I live in the UK too.

I am pretty 100% sure the iPad 3 will support GSM/HSPA which all the networks in the UK use for 2G and 3G. If it does support LTE, it will probably support the 700/800Mhz bands, which the networks here are planning on using.

So yes your 3G SIM will work just fine. The 4G LTE SIMs are also backwards compatible with 3G and 2G. Just how 3G SIMs are backwards compatible with 2G SIMs.

hmmm, interesting IF true. Because Tegra 3 in tech spec will no doubt spank it. BUT Apple has the hand of iOS efficiency, for now anyway. Actually I would like to see a refresh of iOS tomorrow, doubt we'll get one but we can dream?

But one thing Tegra 3 has, to my surprise, shown is how using those extra cores very efficiently extends battery life a lot. So will be interesting to see the quoted run times tomorrow of the new pad with new dual core if it is dual core.

I can only afford an iPhone 5 this year anyway so will be interested in tomorrow as no doubt the same tech ends up in that. Ahhh, iPhone 5 rumours after tomorrow....

I would also argue, it's possibly the smarter choice to not get a 3G or LTE iPad as you can connect it to your phone for that, and you always change your phone, normally.

It doesn't come by surprise: why would Apple boost on multiple areas like quad core and retina and memory; they do always a bit technically less but still achieve a nice usability for real life.
So I'm not concerned about A5X dual core. Will be fine. More memory is indeed more important to drive together with a better GPU the retina resolution. That makes sense to me.

The multiple LTE stuff is a bit a trouble maker and let me think I really should stick with WiFi only. But final decision on that will be done once I hear what the plans for Japan are. My stomach tells me only one LTE for SoftBank; no LTE for NTT.

But again: "shut up and take my money" for a black shiny new iPad WiFi 64GB; paired with an Hulu-enabled ATV3

I'm kind of confused...would this mean that if I purchased the LTE version in the states, I wouldn't be able to use a 3G data chip bought in Europe to avoid carrier roaming charges?

Sweet. Cheers dude.
On that note, I'm seriously considering probably getting an iPad 3/HD/2S/Whatever. I'm stupidly excited for the keynote!

Mac Pros with A5X processors and LTE? What?

Oh sorry, I just assumed it was news about a Mac Pro. You know those towers that Apple makes for pros? The ones that have had the same case design for 7 years and have not been refreshed for 2 years....
