Well actually, I don't want the iMac design to just get a colour paint job and a new chip - I want Apple to be insanely great and rock our world again, some color and a new chip won't lift the consumer sales enough in this world of fast beige PC boxes. Its got to be intrinsically more cool to stand out and make people pay the iMac premium.

I second that, considering the security briefing was over at 6:45am. I would think you wouldn't be in your hotel room an hour or two before people will start arriving.

i don't even have this g5 imac thingy...but i want one now this is cool...

Was 45 min briefing and then we go back at 8am because thats when media will come.

Don't mean to offend, but last-minute trolling's a tradition here. Even having the covers off the iMac stuff so early seems suspicious. And Apple would have the group of you and your employer in trouble. I can't buy it.

Also, the "Supercomuter.... Next" thing is a rumor I saw online several days ago. Can't remember where or the details, but that has been mentioned (or hoaxed) before. (And it could be something real--but that doesn't tell us who saw it.)

not quite in bed yet response to swissboy update-if you remember i'm not positive about the base thing, was just my impression of how they described it. but i still hold my opinion the same. I'D be surprised if that was still the design. ok goodnight for real.

well hope all is well , i will leave for shuttle bus in 5 minutes....

this will be big day....i just hope i could help.

So fellow macrumours people, is this the begining of the Troll Wars? Two conflicting last minute newbie posters step up to the battlefield!

Translated (though from German to English):

CH wishes that everyone sees and carries out this that it gives somewhat more, which, which I cannot say

I think the ch was probably just a typo that was meant to be an "ich" so "I wish" or "I hope" rather than "CH wishes"

uhh makes a lot more sense now, thanks for the clearification :)

THE DOUBLE ARM EXPLAINED

THE DOUBLE ARM EXPLAINED

let's say the design DOES allow for portrait-to-landscape tilting. if the iMac had a single hinge, when you tilted into portrait, the screen's bottom would probably be too low for the user to read easily. you need to be able to get that vertical screen up high, hence the double bar.

what do you think?

If thet did rotate, which would be cool, wouldn't it need to be in the patent?

August 24, 2004 ? Isn't it a bit late to be filing patents for a product that is about to be rolling out?
I guess I thought this was something that would have to be taken care of well ahead of a release.

I tend to agree... This, me thinks, is a decoy. Also - people seem to be forgetting that the iMac is a home product - it'll be white! It won't be silver - or metallic in any way...

Besides - it's just plain ugly!!!

I'll laugh so hard if swissboy is vindicated. I don't know, there just seems to be something to it... it seemed so genuine.

LOL yer prolly right tho. All this talk about nothing would be just too funny.

Hey guys, Im new to the forum and found this pic. Sorry if its a repost.

Yikes, looks I missed the boat on this thread - 420 posts or so! Well, what can I even say then... I guess just that I'm obviously looking forward to the G5 iMac, and waking up tomorrow morning to the (hopefully good) news. As for this whole double-swivel arm thing, I don't know if I like it, or if it's really practical - seems like it would be a bit awkward to me, and would allow for so many different screen positions that would simply be unusable.

But guess we'll see soon enough - the hours are counting down!

Not necessarily. This type of patent ("D" prefix) is really about product appearance, not function. Regular plain-numbered patents are for that.

thinksecret has a new news post about the future imac g5, seems to be pretty close to what i was telling you all about earlier. ok finally going to bed.

I'm sorry, I think the pyramid base is pretty nice looking. Arm and base look kinda scrawny next to screen, but, I see nothing wrong in the pyramid design, except that it's not all that different, not to mention that that would be OK, because the current design is very unique in it's ability, not just it's look, except that the two arms?? isn't that going to cost a lot and not work well?
