Apple's under no obligation to do what Rumor posters "assume." Analysts too can wait a week, if Apple decided to stick to their word (ANNOUNCE in September) and thus allow Steve to do the unveiling in a week or three.

yeah that's true, and people have mentioned that a few times already. But I wonder though, just in case they don't reveal it tomorrow... Where would Steve unveal the new iMac? Would it just be a television broadcast? Since it wont' be at a convention that is...

No idea if this is a hoax or not, but on the iPodfrance site was this picture... if you zoom in on the white box just to the left of the blue crate you can see something like a "display only" iMac on something like an L-shaped base.

I don't think it's a fake--that site has lots of pre-expo photos. But I think that's the original 15" Apple Studio Display (the one that came in grey/purple and then in blue). Wonder what THAT's doing there :D

PS, Re other Apple announcement venues--Apple has used non-tradeshow "Apple Events" at their campus, for other big releases. It's always an option. (Also--no Webcast or satellite this time. That could be because the time isn't good for US viewers anyway, or it could indicate a show without big news. If so, that's OK... big news will come along soon!)

PPS, I think Kontact sounds believable, but nothing will convince me until four more hours pass :)

I do think it's possible that the iMac is NOT coming tomorrow. Only a possibility--it probably IS coming in my opinion. But Apple's not "supposed" to do it tomorrow--they've said September and WE'VE said August 31.

Suppose the iMac is half a foot thick. Compare that to how deep an eMac is! Now throw in the sharpness that an LCD has. I'd say there's still a LOT of point to having a flat screen.

i never said n e thing about rumor posters buddy, apple and all other companies for that matyter havehuge responsibility to live up to waht consumers and investors and expecting for the good of their compnay, i dindt say apple will announce it tomorrow becuase of investors, all i was trying to say is that it would b a poor business move not to, both for consumers, enthusiats, and investors

Probably the best way to make sure there aren't any 'spyphotos' from the expo hall is to ship the new products in old boxes.

Yep, that wins the "most paranoid" theory award

G4 imac still with us

why not keep the design around and throw a dual-G4 chip in - much like the one freescale has announced? or is rumored to have announced. 60% of the current costs, higher volume, stock built up to meet initial demand, HP on board after a couple months of building up their supply just in time for the holiday season.

then a whole new G5, not sold by HP until well into next year

Now you are definitely slipping, that was discussed out in a previous thread yesterday - it's an old box from an old Apple LCD, probably full of cables & keyboards & junk

If you look at some of the photos on the above-mentioned site, there are like six eMac boxes sitting in front of display stalls. They appear to be the same old eMac boxes they use now, I haven't heard any rumors of an eMac update. Which brings me back to the assertion that they are shipping new products in old boxes.

Edit: As paranoid as that may be, then how paranoid is Apple with their unparalled secrecy, But I do think it is a good thing, though.

If they were going to keep the old design, why stop making them two months ago?

mvc-that's just my opinion, not something i'm claiming to know. my impression from the talk i had with them about it was that is was kind of like that. monitor on a stand. like i said, i wish i had asked them more specifics about that.

Apple might have ALL their products on hand to sell, not just the new ones. So eMacs would be expected, along with PowerMacs, iPods, etc.

As for an old LCD box... maybe just last-minute junk like spare extension cords :)

The pyramid shaped base in the drawing doesn't suggest anything, as it has nothing directly to do with any of the language contained in the the filing.

Additionally, unless the patent filing describes a dual swing arm specifically, as a mechanism of the patent request, then we should assume it also is not telling of the machine's design.

Read and study the patent filing and disregard the drawing as a literal depiction.

Is the Paris Expo an Apple Retail Outlet, or an expostion of the new products? There are also many other manufacturers there showcasing new products. Why would Apple want to highlight what is arguably its oldest and most basic model?

Reading your posts gives me a headache.

And what's with "never said n e thing"? Are you too busy to spell out words, or r u Prince?

hey, no disrespect, what you say could be true, its certainly the logical long term solution all technical issues aside.

The whole idea of a separate lump holding the guts of the computer is just a technological hangover, the user perception of a computer is the interface - screen, keyboard and mouse.

Ever see someone hit their screen when something goes wrong - its not the screens fault!

But that's the perception - its all about the interface.

I'm just not sure if the tech is quite ready for the computer 'box' to actually disappear yet.

I'm SURE this has been mentioned in the thread, though I can't read all 300+ posts, but anyway it seems to need reiteration. The Apple site says, as we all know, the imac G5 will be announced and available in September. So though I'm sure we're all hoping to see it soon I wonder why they would announce it even in late August with that on the site?

more than 4

I think it is possible that apple might announce the new iMacs on another day of the convention. and it does follow with the october announcement. of course, im hoping to wake up to my imac telling me there are new imacs! Fingers, toes, and arms crossed (of course, how am i typing?) ;)

PS: let me tell you, typing like this is hard! :p

I’m sorry but Mac users are really funny to watch going nuts over a patent. Do you think Apple would be stupid enough to patent a single component of a computer with the rest of the finished product a patent that was submitted over a just under a year ago?!? This, if nothing else, from a company insane about secrecy. Yah Apple has had a finished G5 iMac done for over a year.
Common sense people. Common sense.

n pblm @ al 2 bd U ar't trin'n 2 spk eglsh tho.

Clipped English is great for real-time chat but on a forum where you have the time to type out a sentence it's a sign of just being sloppy and lazy. No one expects perfect grammar or perfect spelling but for God sake try and maintain something above grade school speak.

On the plus side you aren't speaking 1337 in which case the club by four makes an appearance. :p Look at me I'm cool because I can speel words in numbers!! I remember doing that in gradeschool as well. :p
