I don't say is not capable of taking nice photos, but those saying it's a "huge" improvement have no idea what huge improvement means. Such an extremely expensive phone should overcome 1yr old Huawei phone. In several areas it's worse than 1yr old pixel 2 as well which sports a single camera only.

Shame they can't take a half decent picture. Keep reading all these threads only to be disapointed by what could be shot better on a 10 year old iPod Touch.

The p20 Pro has 3 lenses. All cameras have their strengths and weaknesses. The point is if you get a high end flagship be it a pixel, an iPhone or a Samsung galaxy you are going to get a good camera.

Every year these iPhone camera reviews come out for the new iPhone and every time the reviews state that the camera is "excellent". This has been going on for years.

But when they compare the new iPhone camera to the previous year's iPhone, the previous year's iPhone picture quality always looks like crap.

How can it be that a camera that was "excellent" last year now takes crap pictures this year?

Something is rigged here.

Look at the different threads in the iPhone forums. Nothing but bashing and the ones that are enjoying their new phones are labeled.

A camera is only s good as the user.
My sister can make a pile of rocks look absolutely beautiful. Me I can make the same like look like a mud puddle.

Every year things improve. This site and other similar sites spend a great deal of time bashing the new technology instead of embracing it and showing us how to get the most out of it. I guess the latter is boring stuff.

I’ve taken some great pictures with the X along with some atrocious ones.

I expect the same with the Xs max.

How convenient, now all those images were taken by the iPhone X that was supposed to be state of the art, now they all of the sudden looks like crap. If the X looked so bad, I wonder how the 6 and the 5 looks now?

This picture was taken with my iPhone 5.

And this one with my X.

Both way better than the fake example in the article.

But worse than LAST YEARS Pixel 2, now we have the Pixel 3 right around the corner. What happened to Apple being the phone camera king?
No one thinks the Pixel 2 is better than the iPhone XS Max except Google fans in denial. Even DXO didn't say the Pixel 2 was better, so no one knows what you're talking about.

LOL the Copy&Paste companies beats Apple‘s flagship. Just one word „joke“

Unfortunately, DxOMark and Displaymate are no longer doing honest scientific reviews where there's less money to be made but have turned into another JD Power marketing company disguised as research where it's much more profitable.

They're going after to become the king of beauty mode. It's probably the best camera for those who take selfies a lot showing how all of the sudden their face is being smoothed out as opposed to what it looks like in the mirror. They don't care about DXO Mark about sharpness and natural color. They only care when people say 0hhh $s*t I look good on that photo let me share this to social media. I've seen a lot of people react like that then they get excited how awesome the camera is. That's the kind of market Apple is going after and they think it's better that way.

Oh look, it's the DxOMark again.

It's irrelevant what they say.

I don’t think what they say is “irrelevant;” they’re obviously extremely knowledgeable about camera tech and specs. I think their scoring system is pretty silly, but their analysis is quite valuable.

What is this statement based on? As soon as an Apple product gets a good score, everyone downplays the results. An Android device gets a great score, we never hear the end of it. Just curious as to if this statement is based on any fact or just your anti Apple opinion. Let us all know.

Much better ? Do you have a source for this information ? Average user could not distinguish between the two, so wondering how you came to this conclusion apart from brand loyalty to apple.
DxOMark.com

Aside from that, you people have to understand that for anyone to take flagship share away from iPhone, the competing features and services can't simply be on par (or in Pixel's case, worse) because the stickiness to iOS is a force of nature.

Despite what industry "experts" thought, smartphone sales have not become a commodity. People like iOS, for whatever reason. They like the GUI, services, support, stance on security, look, feel, features, fluidity, software updates, name, etc.

Android and the companies making the phones that run Android need to stop focusing on copying and innovate themselves. You win by offering something significantly better than the competition, which is how iPhone and Apple built their advantage. You don't "innovate" by offering 8GB of RAM, because people don't care if 4GB works perfectly. No one cares except very few spec nerds.

There needs to be a leap forward from competitors, or Apple will continue to dominate.

Android is a copy of iOS at its core. Android P is a copy of iPhone X software interaction. They need to work on jumping ahead instead of reacting to Apple.

It's all about new and shinier. For years Apple released phones with thick side bezels and huge top and bottom bezels all in white and this never seemed to be a problem. Now thin bezels are the only thing acceptable :)

This was a test of the back camera, not the front camera.

DXOMark uses their own criteria to determine how the camera works all-around. If you need something to work well mostly in low light, then it doesn't really matter how they do on all around tests. That being said, it looks like the new iPhones have a great all around camera.

Android (Huawei) is still at the top of the list and I still say it's no longer trustworthy.

Although Apple is a late comer but virtually all flagship phones now use the same Sony sensor with big pixels. What sets them apart is AI image processing where Google currently excel.

What's exactly the scientific way to test the quality of photo from iPhone XS? While Apple applied beauty mode on your photo it hurts the sharpness of the photo because only add blurriness to it. I don't expect them to be on the top this time and I'm sure they're aware about it. Nevertheless still rated second and I think that was impressive and iOS still the best mobile OS in the market. It's because iPhone is not rated number 1 you start attacking DxOMArk and Displaymate you these people they know photography and there's a guideline how things are rated like SHARPNESS.

But the reverse is true as well.....
so many Apple fans downplayed DxO scores and insinuated that the Android phone makers were BUYING their scores and DxO was corrupt. These posters were all over MR when the Note 9 scored well.

I think that is why a lot of us that like both iPhones and Android devices have a little smirk today.
Now that the iPhone scored so well.....DxO is great in their minds again....
