One thing I'm worried about: the pill when playing movies.

"We suspect that in just a few days of use you'll stop noticing the holes in the screen, but in our early testing of watching a movie, it seemed very obvious thanks to the fact the screen wrapped around it. At least the notch was tucked to one side."

You shoudln't watch a movie like that because it crops off the top and bottom. You probably don't see the cutout when watching the movie normally.

Clever way to sell a bigger notch to your customers. Make it a feature. LOL

Well, it's a cutout not a notch, and Apple's cutout guidelines are different from their notch guidelines.
I agree. There will now be a set of guidelines that provide for third party usage of the dynamic island. If Apple had thought of an approach for a dynamic notch back in the day I feel the the guidelines would have been updated to accommodate that as well.

There have been no reports that movies display differently in iOS16.
I hope that's true. Problem is there weren't any reports about the Dynamic Island either. And early hands-on reviews from today seem to indicate that the pill doesn't go away on the Pros during movies.

I'm just trying to figure out if that's true or not.

You should be able to toggle between scaling to height and scaling to width just like you can now.

Do This keynote is a joke ?

Seriously they have nothing to introduce so they speak about the flash ?! 🤣😂

Life saving features the new dynamic notch and longer battery life are all gimmicks!!

When are we getting a bun warmer Apple!!!

Dynamic Island and Satellite SOS are super damn cool. I'm very tempted to upgrade my 13 Pro to the 14 Pro Max.

Looks like SOS might be integrated into Apple One.

On one hand I think everyone deserves to live, on the other hand this feature sounds crazy expensive and needs to be paid for.

Absolutely genius way to utilize that space! I'm amazed!
They basically took this annoying cut out that blocks out part of the display and gave it a personality using a magicians slight of hand. To your brain, they are hiding the pill in plain sight by moving it around, resizing it, putting some screen real estate between the components, making it touch interactive. It now truly is a feature instead of a dead zone. your brain will no longer see a pill, but a tool. your eyes will gravitate towards it regularly to see what it is telling you. If they took it away you would miss it it. It wont take a geek to fall in love with this feature if they make it useful enough. This is one of the most Steve Jobs like moments I've seen from Apple since his passing. PURE GENIUS!

Brilliant use of the pill, I love it. So it seems like this is actually just the one pill cutout instead of the pill and hole cutout?
Without the software, this really is physically a pill and hole cut out in the screen. But Apple blacks out the screen between the two cut outs to make it look like one. Then they can dynamically put indicators and other content in that space between to make it all seem integrated in a magical way. The lack of backlighting in OLED allows them to seamlessly hide the cut outs.

Swiping off grease before taking a selfie! 😝
did you ever swipe down for notification center? Did you ever put your phone to your face? you' ve been exposing the selfie cameral skin oils and make up since day one. How is this any different?

I definitely have. Time will tell if I wind up greasing this area more. Seems a lot of actions take place to the left and right of the pill but some will require touching the pill area to expand. It's the latter that may lead to more touches in this area.

free for 2 years with iphone 14 purchase. not sure what it costs after that.

The pill shape is a great improvement over the notch to me. The dynamic island isn't necessary but it doesn't hurt.

Should've made the pill to an "i" shape when horizontal, that would be great.

It is a lonely island for US buyers. Who outside of the USA can afford it, after the overseas price hikes?

I agree, this really is pure genius from Apple. So they still have the pill and hole cutout? That's what the leak has been saying (pill and hole cutout and but turning it into a pill through software) so you're right.

If Apple is going to stick with this for a while (just like the notch) then I don't really mind, this already feels like a huge upgrade from the notch.

Edit: I need to forgot to add "huge" because this really is a huge upgrade from the notch.
