...The graphics are likely to have the VRAM bumped as suggested in the above specs, but I doubt Apple will replace the GPU with a different one until Montevina.

Why? Montevina has nothing to do with their graphics options.

...Nvidia is owned by Intel...

As someone else pointed out, no they most certainly are not. Nvidia's in a fight for their life against Intel and AMD, and it's only going to get worse.

That's hardly the same. The Mac Mini, Macbook, and iMac's are all consumer machines whereas the MBP is a pro machine...

Please please please none of those "Pro" sillyness. The MBP is a higher end laptop then the Macbook. It's for people who need a higher end laptop, period. Many people using it for a business related reason don't need the MBP, and many people using it for personal use do, etc.

I hate it when people continue to take those labels seriously. It's just a cute name.

i dont really want a case redesign anway, the current one is so ncie...i just one a black aluminum version available :)

It looks fine, but a lot of us want replaceable hard drives.

For lawls:

nvidia 7800 wont work
i bought one of these and tried putting in my dell dimension 2350. my friend said that the shiny metal part on the bottom looks like it has lines because you cut at the lines if it doesnt fit. so i carefully cut off the bottom so that it fit into 1 of the slot things in my computer. now it doesnt work. did i cut it wrong? id post pics, but no camera. is there anyway i can fix this? thanks for any help.

This is a joke, right? The Dimension 2350 doesn't have AGP or PCIe, so can't use that card. You can't cut computer parts to make them fit

After hoping for years to see a new MBP design and in the end after waiting for months to get at least the announced SSE4 while I was watching this and other sites I think I will have to wait until
Leopard 1.5.2. is released
MBA is distributed to all :apple: dealers
until the new release will be seen.
(OK I know the argument of buying when you need it or buying now as otherwise you will have to wait for ever (i.e. the second next release ;) ) but let' s face it, MBP is pure luxury. I don't need one right now and if someone really needs an :apple: notebook he can always grab a MacBook as the difference between MB and MBP is not significant)

Damnit!

Honestly, I didn't think we were getting updates today anyway...although, I was really hoping for it. Well, here's to next Tuesday.

I hope it's in the beginning of Feb if not next Tuesday.

Stupid ***** MacBook Air getting in the way of our MBP update...ugh.

Ulgh!

As OS X Users we are in a unique predicament. We can't shop around and find the best deal available at the time, we have to patiently wait for things to come on Apple's schedule. Sony and Lenovo have their Penryns available with HP and Compaq soon to follow, and all of their Meroms are now on deep discount. I can't investigate those, because they use an operating system that is worthless to me.

I have been waiting since November because all indications had new MBPs at Macworld. Why bother waiting, then? Because Apple doesn't drop their prices as their machines get old - and because while I am willing to pay the quality premium for Apple products, I am not willing to be ripped off. All indications say changes are coming soon, and have for a while.

I was a system builder on the PC side before I switched in 2002 and I am still not entirely accustomed to vendor lock-in. OS X is an incredible operating system, but while I like apple hardware, it's not why I switched. Times like this, where there is an obvious decline in value of a product and apple refuses to tip its hat to that, I wonder how loyal I would be if Linux caught up just a little more. I would pay $500 for an OSX license for any hardware. Having to wait around when I am ready to buy just to keep from being fleeced is maddening

Yeah, I hear ya. These are the things that Apple does that can (and, possibly, will) create a large negative backlash.

For example, Dell, etc. all offer 3 year warranties...Apple still offers 1 year. You have to buy AppleCare to get the 3-year equivalent warranty.

That's the most irritating thing about buying a Mac imo. After more than about 3 or 4 months it seems "better value" to just wait for an update, with features that better reflect the price.

I wanted a Mac Pro for about 3 months before they updated them a few weeks ago... torture :D

for the first time in years. this whole last year I have really been nothing but disappointed in apple at every single turn.

I hope his stocks tank again LOL,
I want a new MBP.

i predict the air ships, appears in stores and is hyped to high heaven (like the iphone),
sales lag predictions by substantial amounts out of the gate (like the iphone),
consumer surveys/opinion indicate the target doesn't hate the product, just the high price for what it is (like the iphone),
and steve has to turn tail and drop the price of the air so that he can sell some of them and satisfy investors (like the iphone).

nice product, wrong price. like the iphone (at launch).

there's a new marketing slogan for apple!

there it is

That's exactly it. It was almost easier before Intel. IBM and Motorola didn't sell commodity processors and didn't refresh very often, so you couldn't really calculate if you were being ripped off or not. There wasn't even an easy way to compare performance. I think that Apple still thinks it can exist in that world, even after having made the clear decision to enter an entirely new one.

The problem is that now more of their customers are people like me who have switched in the last few years than people who are longtime loyalists. Recent swithers (and more importantly potential converts) know what to expect out of price/performance, that has been the shopping experience in the PC realm from day one.

I really get irritated when it is assumed that machines are not used to their optimum.

Having tested the MacBook's (my girlfriend's) OpenGL capability and rendering ability using Cinebench and the results are pitiful.

Sometimes I work from home and really need a machine that can keep up when using apps like SketchUP and Cinema4D.

I totally agree with snyderjw and am getting tired of waiting for hardware updates from Apple...

New graphics card for that MacPro in the office, 'no way.. just buy a whole new computer'... need to work away from the office... 'buy one of our two year old laptops'!

Wow. Seriously?

My 6 year old (yes SIX year old) powerbook's screen is leaps and bounds better quality then a brand new Macbook. My screen is < 1/4 inch thick and can be viewed perfectly and equally from any angle including 180 degrees.

You have to be dead center to view my girlfriends macbook screen. even being off 10 degrees will make a picture appear "negative"

And that is just a comparison on screen quality.

Does your powerbook still have a hand crank like my 51/2 yr old powerbook? Actually I really like my Ti G4 but it's time for an upgrade. I'm curious about these angles that you are viewing your Powerbook at. I ususally just view mine from my lap or when it's on a tabletop directly in front of me. And are you at 180 degrees or is your laptop because you either have eyes in the back of your head or your laptop has a see thru cover or you have yet to discover that you are dyslexic. DYSLEXICS UNTIE!

Ok i've decided to give Apple until next Tuesday and failing that i'll buy something else. Like therapy for the stress they have put me through!

LOL @ squirrel.....Don't give up...Listen to some Tom Petty and know that the waaaiitinggg is the harrdest paaart! Besides, Your therapist is probably on the "waiting for mbp update list" With everyone else in the world.:D
