"It's been said" - several times in this and other related threads.

Look here to see an example.

Just because on (some random forums) say the 8700M GT is an overclocked 8600M GT it still means the 8700M GT is superior and not the same.

And I wouldn't be too sure about a 2.8 GHz on the high-end model. They cost a lot more than what Apple is paying for their current chips (even a lot more than before the current chips got a discount). Add to that a higher TDP, and it looks even more unlikely. 17" is a possibility, but it seems like the iMac is the only Mac that can handle the Extreme processors at the moment.

Dear gods of all religions,
The time has come. Judgement day. We the people need not but one thing, on this one all holy day tomorrow. Forgive us are sins, and give us the updated macbook pro.

Amen.

everything)

Please God, listen to this guy, Amen:)

I think the original point is that it's the same physical hardware. It would still be better than nothing though.

I'm dangerously close to going with a PC laptop and making a Hackintosh if Apple doesn't get off its ass and release some updated hardware.

I'm so sick and tired of them not releasing hardware because the marketing department doesn't want to. Why can't they be like other companies and release hardware when they get updates instead of when one machine, phone, or pod isn't getting updated for a while. It leads to crap like the Mac Mini and the MBP.

I'm curious about these angles that you are viewing your Powerbook at. I ususally just view mine from my lap or when it's on a tabletop directly in front of me. And are you at 180 degrees or is your laptop because you either have eyes in the back of your head or your laptop has a see thru cover or you have yet to discover that you are dyslexic.

I notice it mainly when, for example, the girlfriend says "Hey look at this picture" and I look over only to see some nasty inverted photo, until I get out of my seat, lean over her as to get my eyes perfectly aligned in the center.

I don't ACTUALLY use my laptop at 180 degrees, just commenting that it IS capable of it. (Well 180 is impossible, maybe 179)

Anywhere over ±90 degrees and you're standing behind the machine so unless you can see through metal I'm going to assume you mean 89 degrees max.

That said, I know what you mean. My girlfriend has a MacBook and when we are sitting on the sofa and she tries to show me a website or something she has to rotate the laptop so it's directly facing me before I can see anything. My 15" SR MBP has a great screen though, it's viewing angles are much much better and certainly comparable to the 1.6GHz PowerBook I used to have. It's also MUCH brighter.

We've heard more whispers about the upcoming MacBook Pro updates.

- Multi-touch Trackpad
- 17" model to incorporate LED screen
- Penryn processors
- To be released in the next 2 weeks (so, this Tuesday or next)

Exact release dates are always difficult to pinpoint as they can change, but the information is believed to be accurate at this time.

I love how not one person has yet commented on the source of the news. Wondering if this will happen as soon as the source says it will -- I'm a uni student waiting for the new release - and the semester is halfway over.

Hi, I've simple question:
if Apple update the MBP next Tuesday (or any other day), when the updated machines will be available at Apple retail stores?

Thanks in advance for answer

I've given up! I'm buying my Mac Pro now and stuff the MBP!

All of this waiting time has led me to a similar conclusion. I'm keeping my PowerBook and will be buying a Mac Pro. If I need any more grunt or to do something in Windows when I'm away from my desk, I'll pick up a refurb MacBook.

I wish you all well with your MBP's! :)

Waiting ..

I'm anxiously waiting for an update on the MBP! I surely hope it's now or next week and not in March or even later as some rumors suggest. I could live with the current design -if they get rid of that latch :) - but better specs for the same or less money is always worth waiting for :D for a short time, at least ...

Being a freelance windows developer for far longer than I care to remember I've been watching the Apple scene from close proximity. Bought a toy (G3 bondy blue, G4 mac mini ...) every now and again, just to play a little and see what fuss was all about. But things changed when the Intels appeared! I switched and now all my work -except the actual (.NET) programming- is done on a mac and I can't help trying to convince family members and friends to switch to mac. Several of them did -or are going to- and don't look back (do I get a pat on the shoulder for this? :D )

After 20+ years of developing on Microsoft OS's, as a self-made and successful developer I might add, it's time for me to take the last step. As a treat for all those years of stress / bug-finding-fixing I subscribed to a top-notch cocoa course in the US (I'm in europe)! Toying a bit with xcode showed me that developing for mac is quite a relief compared to Windows development! Just the fresh air I need :) I'm so excited and looking foreward writing beautiful apps on :apple:

I apologize for being slightly off topic, I suffer a bad case of macitement and I can't wait for the new MBP to arrive. The course starts in april, i need one ASAP

ps. oh .. this is my first post here .. hi all !!! :D

Just buying my 23" ACD off ebay and I think to be fair the Arn's rumour, I will give Apple until next Tuesday to update the MBP but I really can't wait any longer.

only problem is... i have till saturday to return it, and if i do return it...i may be making a huge gamble cuz i might not know/be a while till the next one comes out...

are you dumb?

and, im highly disappointed right now :(

If you assume looking straight at the laptop screen from directly in front is 0 degrees then I'd love to hear how you think you can see the screen at any angle between 90 degrees and 270 degrees from this.

You're correct; however, the industry standard for measuring viewing angle is: "...measured from one direction to the opposite, giving a maximum of 180° for a flat, one-sided screen. "

I'm still using my workhorse PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz. Every time I'm ready to jump (1) I squeeze a bit more functionality out of this machine (with Virtual PC, for example) and (2) updates to the MBP are imminent.

So here we are, post-Macworld, waiting. I'm at the point where I really need the performance of the current MBPs, and am asking myself whether I'll jump to a 15- or 17-inch high res today (or on a following Tuesday :) or wait the twelve weeks (or so) until the next big Intel chip updates are rumored to be ready for us.

Dunno, dunno.
