The context seemed to be more of stuck as in backlogged. The rep couldn't access all of the orders from the morning at that time. As they got processed and released the phone reps could then get into them. So orders after the big first batch went through as normal. That first group was so big and because of some issues they had to sort them out before they could be accessed by the call center.

I included that portion of my call as an example of how slammed thier order system must have been. I haven't seen any talk of orders being "lost". Some orders were probably just delayed internally while things were sorted out.

I suppose I'm the lucky one that is delayed having ordered from AT&T so early in the morning. Almost an hour waiting on the phone as we speak.
 
An unlocked phone can be used on any GSM carrier world wide by putting a new SIM in it, a locked unsubsidised phone is locked to the carrier that it's bought from and can not put another carriers SIM in and use it.

So in your case you could put a T-Mobile SIM in it in the US and if you travel any network in the country you are visiting if you had an Unlocked, if buy the locked version you will be stuck on AT&T.

That's what I figured thanks for the reply. I don't plan to use it on an outside network but an unlocked phone would have a higher resale value.

Call ATT to have your pending order escalated!

I'm on the phone with AT&T. I spoke with "Mike," and he said he hadn't a clue why it was not processed yet. He escalated it and guaranteed me the phone by Friday (I'll take that with a grain of salt).

So...go! Call AT&T if your order is pending!
 
My ATT ordered iPhone 4 arrived one day early, June 23rd 2010. While my iPhone 4S ordered through ATT is still showing pending, and was "backordered" since the order was placed, this is consistent with my iPhone 4 experience.

It wasn't looking good as Tuesday (6/21/2010) came and went, still showing "pending." But Wednesday (6/22) morning had great news, it had shipped via FedEx and showed a "June 23 by 3 pm" delivery date. It arrived at 2:40 pm on the 23rd, which was approximately 36 hours after it went to a "shipped" status.

I am hoping for a similar delivery with the iPhone 4S, Thursday before the official Friday launch. It made sense to spread out the activations after the painful (for some) activation experiences with the previous iPhones. And with all the events of this week- 10.7.2, iOS 5, iCloud, updated (iOS at least) iWork apps, etc.- it does make sense (to me) to get the iPhone 4S to early preorder folks on Thursday, if not Wednesday. ::grin::

:D This really made my day! haha... I spoke to an ATT representative online about my order status since it to read backordered. My shipping status as of right now says pre-ordered and not shipped. So when I spoke with her she told me that I should see my phone out in my door steps on the 14th. I also ordered my phone at 7am Central Time through ATT of course. On another note I also read that all ATT orders done online will be shipped Via Fedex...

Ordered thru apple and just got my email a little while ago.

With the 3GS it was through ATT premier and the order tracking was all screwed up but I got my phone the Friday or the launch. Had to go to Fedex to pick it up though
 
I’m in Canada, ordered white iPhone 4S 32GB and Applecare at almost 4AM on Oct 7. Mine still says “Processing Items” on the Apple Online Store (i.e. no tracking number yet). Anybody else in Canada?

P.S. Why is Applecare Plus exclusive to the U.S.?

I'm tired of calling AT&T, to no avail in an updated status if my order. Placed the order at 2am on the 7th and it still processing?! I'm happy for the people who are getting updates of their shipped iPhone 4S, but at this point I'll just wait it out and keep my fingers crossed that this gets resolved on its own.

I completed the agreements as soon as I received it and waiting for a confirmation e-mail. I just received my Confirmation E-mail saying that the order will be shipped out in 21-28 days...

After speaking with 2 different CSR from AT&T, one person said I would be receiving it by the 14th still and the other said ALL iPhone 4S' that the first batch of pre-orders will be shipped ON the 14th...

I'm so confused... :(

Apple has already started shipping Iphone 4S's out(mine included) and some AT&T customers are starting to report that theirs are packaged and waiting to be shipped. Most AT&T Iphone 4S orders are still on "backorder" though(my mothers included).

Unfortunately since your order technically didnt go through till Saturday, I doubt you will get your iphone 4S on the 14th. Thats just my speculation though.

Some people have been able to call AT&T and have the rep push their order through the processing stage. You might want to call them and be nice at first to see if they will do it. If not, you could always call back and get pushy. If they are really going to make you wait 21-28 days, you could cancel the order and order from apple since their wait time is only 7-14 days. maybe you could use that fact as leverage also when you talk to the AT&T rep.

So I just got off the phone with an ATT CSR and she told me that the Order Processing is based on the time the order has been placed and not when the order was processed. And also, the first batch will be shipping out on Friday. I just hope she is right since ATT took their sweet time sending me the Terms and Conditions agreement a day later.

It seems like AT&T CS reps are contradicting themselves. There have been posts made by other members saying that the rep they talked to said people would be getting their phones on the 14th, whereas the rep you talked to said they wont be shipped out until the 14th.
 
I checked my shipping status on UPS and it is now in Anchorage Alaska!

If anyone cares, I placed two orders through Apple.com on 10/7. Can't remember the time, I believe between 8:30am and 9:30am PST

Both for AT&T, 32gb. One white, one black.

Placed order for the white one first, then immediately placed the order for the black one. Got the confirmation emails a couple of hours later, first email for the white one arrived at 11:44am PST. Email for the black one arrived at 11:48am PST.

When I checked UPS using the reference number, I was only able to get info for one of the shipments. I just got the email from apple a couple of minutes ago and it turns out that the UPS site was displaying tracking for the white one. When I log into apple.com, it shows the white one as shipped. Black one is still in progress.

So I'm not sure if people are getting shipping notices based on the color/model they chose or if it's based on when the order was received. I'll update when I get a tracking number for the black one.


Oh, I should add that I did change the shipping address for both orders at midnight on 10/8. Changed the address for the white one first, followed by the black one. Tracking for the white one shows that it is being delivered to the updated address.

Same here Anchorage Alaska ! I ordered mine thru Apple on 10/7 @ 5am central . But I tried earlier that morning but we all know what happened .

Just got an email from ATT saying my 4S White 16GB has been processed. Not yet shipped though :(. Hopefully, I should get it on 14th according to the ATT rep.
Fingers crossed.

I am in the same boat as you. Still says Processing Items, and I'm ordering from here in Toronto.

Also, AppleCare/AppleCare+, really makes no difference. In all fairness you have within the original year to purchase the AppleCare warranty. Secondly, I have had COUNTLESS friends go to the Apple Store with iPhone 4s they cracked due to being careless and Apple fixed it for them every single time. Sometimes even gave them a new phone.

The reality is that despite AppleCare+ now exists, they have always pretty much fixed accidental damage. My friend cracked her iPhone 4 THREE times and they fixed it 3 times free of charge to her.
 
I placed my order around 3am CST through Apple's website, got a notice to finish order later, and did so around 11am the following morning. Changed my shipping address around 9pm that same night. Apple's website says "preparing for shipment" but I can't see my order on UPS or FedEx yet. I'm still hoping for a Friday delivery!
