So, my conclusion is, a lot of the tools, tasks users are buying the iPad Pro with M1 for, they could easily do on a standard iPad or iPad Air or Mini. But, if you believe you need the power for a device still hobbled by limited multi-tasking, then its not my place to say what you think is best for your needs.

I appreciate your offering your opinion. There's a lot of truth in what you say, and it's good to think about major purposes, whether that's popular or not. Frankly, an iPad at any level is more of a want instead of a need for me because I primarily use a MacBook Pro.

This is what's wrong with the world. People "losing their shizz" because they couldn't immediately check the status of their iPad order that won't be here for another 2 weeks. Get outside, Man.

All part of the ' NOW ' and ' Instant Gratification ' culture! No wonder this country has so many mental issues!

Are there people that DON’T want to work from home? Everyone I’ve talked to is LOVING not having to commute. But, there are folks that want ads targeted to them, so maybe they’re the same group of folks :)
I hate working from home. I still don’t understand why so many people like living at work. I have seen too many instances of people being expected to be available almost around the clock because everyone is expected to be at home without anything else to do.

Oh, yeah, I guess if the company they work for sucks, there’s nothing to be done about that. Of course, since almost ALL companies are offering flexible work at home schedules and having difficulty hiring, they could even get a job in a state two states over and work for a company that sticks to an 8 hour workday.

OF course, if they don’t like where they live, that doesn’t solve THAT problem. OH, and if they’re the type that have to see other people in person to get work done, it wouldn’t work for that, either.

So if I didn’t order one of these yet, but I still want to try and get one on launch day; can I just go to an Apple Store on launch day and try my luck? Or will there maybe be a way to reserve in-store pickup on that day?

I have been waiting for over a year for this thing.. Apple disappointed us last year. The main reason.. I was worried that my bank denied my payment and I lost my spot after reading that people were getting the prepared for shipping update. It happened previously when I ordered a Xbox Series X and I lost out on my console. They gave it to the next person in line. I Still haven’t been able to get a new console and it pissed me right off. This thing is going to change the game when it comes to mobile gaming. I’m trying to take it to the next level.

I personally would try going else where. I’m willing to bet that the apple store is going to be packed on release day. They have a huge demand for them right now so your probably better off going hunting elsewhere like Walmart Etc. There is a shortage on the 12.9s And most of them are backordered til July. I could be wrong but that would be my guess

Try teaching online university chemistry LAB classes online from home. Would you like your brain surgeon to have learned how to do his job on-line From home?

I’ve had good luck at BestBuy when Apple’s sold out on opening day.

Are you saying they have the OPTION of working from home? Because I was only referring to folks that have that option. If my brain surgeon learned how to do their job on-line from home and is eventually provided a shingle from an accredited university, and is offered a job by a health care provider… then oh well! It’s not like I know anything about how my CURRENT doctor learned their job LOL

“Your shipment is on its way”. I like that email! Arrives Friday, May 21 by 7pm.
Why did I spend the money? I do presentations for a living and used to use an iPad mini, then moved to the iPad Pro 10 for the past four years. I love the size, but my eyes are getting older and have been testing out the iPad Pro 12.9. It is a big difference. No pun intended. It’s for work and work paid for it, so I feel satisfied it was a good decision. The M1 was just the sexy part of the decision.

apple often has stock for release day sale but do not put it into their online inventory until day of.. I’ve had REALLY good luck (3 out of 3 recent products) of waiting until day of and then buying online after 5 am edt in the usual manner with same day store pick up. you need to be flexible on what you want because they don’t necessarily stock all configurations/colors. Otherwise, yes had good luck walking into Best Buy or At&t With the same flexibility caveat.

How much ram is on these ?

Toy ? I use my iPad for 90% of work ; emails , messaging to accountants , solicitors , shop and flat agents , banks etc etc , using iCloud etc , it’s certainly not a toy and I use it a lot more than my iMac 27 5k I can tell you . I do spreadsheets on the Mac everything else you can do on a iPad imo .

Wow that’s a dramatic increase , the only downer I have is my 12.9 3rd gen does feel sluggish when I’ve got 4 apps running and I’m swapping between them rapidly .

Might get one of these beauties for Xmas !

I don't understand why you need that much RAM on an iPad. It can't really multi task. Its just a toy.
I think it was a lot less about need, and a lot more about Apple being lazy and using the exact same hardware as the MacBook Air/Pro/iMac.
