Why is it even matter? If the carrier doesn't offer you signal there, then you should never even consider it in the first place.

If you have a bad signal then you should have never signed up for aT&T in the first place. It's your fault.
So, we should own this neat little device that costs $5 on Amazon and tells you how strong the signal is for every carrier wherever you are standing, right?

Oh, wait. That device doesn't exist.

Well, then, I guess we should just attune our antennae to the proper signal and map it with our brains.

Oh, wait. We aren't Martians.

Damn, I guess we just have to try stuff and see what works. And then you can yell at us because YOU are superior. Nice.

How about a review comparing the Verizon iPhone with an AT&T iPhone 4 where AT&T is only EDGE, you know, like the rest of the nation live, ie THERE REAL PEOPLE.

According to the United States Census Bureau, 82.6% of Americans live in metropolitan areas.

Im in Boston. I switched from Verizon to At&t just to get the iphone 4. I was hesitant because of the horror stories i hear about at&t. Turns out my signal is just fine all over the city, and most places i travel to. I have had a total of no more that 5 dropped calls since July.

I was seriously considering selling it on ebay and switching back to verizon if it could be done with no cost, but now i wouldnt even consider it for a second. Data is what smartphones are all about, not voice. My "phone" is good enough by far. my "pocket computer" totally rocks.

So if you live in a city, like most of us do, At&t might be the way to go for you. But you should go with verizon, because i don't want to share my bandwidth with you. :D

you Verizon people are idiots. you seem to think that Verizon doesn't just consider you a number either, that they are going to lovingly give you anything you want, how soon you forget that they dropped a $20 fee on your hotspot tethering on top of your data plan. Suckers.

I have both Verizon and AT&T and I travel alot of work (work phone is Verizon). I use my AT&T iphone a lot more as its constantly getting a better signal both here in San Antonio and all through out the south Texas country side from the Mexico border north. Its based on your areas. If you bought AT&T in an area where they are not prominent, that thats your fault, not AT&T

Did you expect data to be free?
Are you the type to pay the early fee and expect to get on before the captain?

I travel often... East to West...North to South, Even to El Paso, Verizon always works for me.

The war is over... people have a choice...get over it.

Verizon iPhone has better calls, less dropped calls, but slower than the At&t iPhone.

I don't mind being 2-5 seconds slower at downloading a webpage, it's not like it's a race.

But, I won't be having the frustration of dropped calls, no signals, etc, is enough to convert people from At&t to Verizon.

My personal preference,

I don't care about dropped calls, I care about speed. And I care a lot about unlimited data.

However AT&T has no service at all where I live so that pretty much makes my decision. Anyways should I order from apple.com or verizonwireless.com?

Wait, AT&T is faster after all?

Verizon FAIL.

Wait, Verizon is more reliable than AT&T after all?

AT&T FAIL.

why would there be any surprises? It's a review of a phone that's already out, only on a different cell carrier.

4g

Given that Apple will release a new iPhone this summer (assuming they stick with their product cycle), is there any buzz on 4G implementation? I realize 4G is fairly new and most 4G networks may not extend beyond major cities, however I have read on Qualcomm's 3G/4G and CDMA/GSM technology. Any chance the iPhone 5 may incorporate any of this or is it too early?

Holding off on the next iPhone may make a difference in carrier choice if the new iPhone makes better use of VZWs' network. It won't change the lack of simultaneous data and voice which is a deal breaker for me, however VZW phone service is superior to AT&T, UGH why can't we have it all?! lol

Hmmm the stories are just stating the obvious.

the 3G version of the iphone 4 drops more calls than the CDMA one, but the 3G is faster. Who would have thought that would ever happen!

Thats like Ford comparing its new Fiesta to a 1982 Ferrari and saying the Fiesta is superior because its more fuel economical even if the Ferrari is faster (and yes i know CDMA is the older of the two..... its called a comparison).

It must have been due to "antennagate"..... OR pure over saturation of the ATT 3G network.
A similar situation to what happened to ATT is now happening in Australia where Vodafone and Optus (the cheaper carriers) cant keep up with demand (read: over saturation) but Telstra (ex govt owned super telco) can.

These stories will only be factual when both networks are running the same LTE chipset. Then and only then will we see the true nature of the networks capabilities.

"Better Reception, Slower Data"

What part of "Duh!" don't you get. Translation: For all of those that are anal and old school and like talking over data services, Verizon is for you.

Now time for guys on this forum to bitch about slow Verizon data rates. Think of it, you have time to bitch about both AT&T and Verizon -- the best of both worlds -- woohoo!!

Voice call drop not being an issue for me, I'll take the faster AT&T data.

I agree. I do not have have dropped calls with my iPhone 4.

If the city you live in is NYC or the Bay Area, AT&T sucks.
Depends what city you live in. Very much a local issue.
Oh, and remember Consumer Reports just rated AT&T the worst network and Verizon the best.
I can't wait to dump AT&T. Sick of dropped calls here in San Jose.

Yea, it's pretty much accepted that Verizon has better reception/coverage but AT&T has faster speeds (and can do voice + data simultaneously).

Personal preference.

....and CDMA from what I've read does tower hand-offs better. If you are a traveler, this comes in handy.

So this new Verizon phone has the new antenna design. Can you really compare the faulty death grip of ATT iPhone4. I don't see a true 4G iphone for at least another year. The other issue is why would you buy a Verizon iPhone now any ways knowing a new phone will be released in July. Or will it only be an AT&T phone only.

My AT&T throughput:

I also live within a few blocks of the tower.

In KC at my parent's house or wife's house, I'm lucky to get 1/10th this speed. Probably even worse than that.

Edit: Holy crap retina screen shots are huge! I used Pastebot to shoot this to my desktop, uploaded to Image Shack and linked it. Wow.

LTE supports voice and data at the same time.

Intellect

Wow. Good to know. U = everyone in the US.

I saw this post before it was edited for the insult.

It is good to know where you stand intellectually. The person you quoted was merely stating a fact regarding HIS experience with AT&T. Your comment and subsequent insult is laughable.

Please provide substance to the thread or move on.

I have never experienced dropped calls where we live with AT&T on my iPhone either. My wife is happy with her Verizon service where we live and has not mentioned any dropped call issues.

If someone did not research a mobile service provider in the area in which they would most use it, you made your bed. Now sleep in it.
