Hey guys.
Im doing this and it seemed to go on without a hitch. Its been 2 days and no text messages. Can anyone tell me what may be wrong? Ive been calling, resetting, and even restoring to no avail. I did this on 9/9 around 2PM Pacific Time.

WIFI has been off for the most part. but I did turn it on to do gadgets trick...the help.benm.at tethering trick. I assume that he did it and it didnt mess with his plan so its probably safe for me.

Some people are getting theirs done in an hour..how is mine taking SO LONG?! Does being a business/corporate customer change anything?

Ive attached some screenshots to help you out.

Looks like you're on the right plan. I'm a business customer and didn't have any problems (had to go through the process twice though because I originally was accidentally set up on the $10 + $20 plan which doesn't work). Also I did not do the benm trick, but I don't see why that would mess with your data plans being switched over anyway.

if it was me i would put your sim card in the dumb phone, turn it on and when you log into att olam your dumbphone will be listed instead of your iphone automatically. soon as you make a call with your dumb phone att system picks it up. then the switch has been made and all you have to do is call them and tell them you want the 30 dollar unlimited plan because it automatically puts you on the $10 data plan and $20 message plan. just call and have it switched.. after that put the sim back in your iphone make a call and it all happens. this way you do not have to call the rep and explain the whole sim card switching. you just call and say you did it already and need to change your data plan to the $30 unlimited plan. it even shows the option on your olam when you log in, but it says you have to call to have a c/s rep make the switch for you. so i did and it took 30 seconds.

i did it this way by accident and seem to have better faster results then most have here who never activated the dumb phone. had two texts and e mail with in minutes. as soon as i switched to the iphone again with in minutes it showed the 30 data plan for iphone on my olam. this morning it even showed 30 i phone data plan on my att wireless app. and my billing cycle does not change until the 22nd. i did not even use a sim card adaptor. i just placed the micro sim carefully over the spot and placed the battery in carefully to hold it in place long enough to activate it.

Turned it on, made a call, and OLAM still shows iP4...

the varying results mystifies me.

you put your iphone sim into your dumb phone and made a call and it still showed an iphone on your olam?

there has to be one common underlying reason some are not seeing results. just wonder what it could be

Can anyone report if the two unlimited iPhone data pans that show up on your olam eventually just turns into the one? Maybe after your billing cycle starts over again?

And if all this works it should be good through the rest of your two year contract I'd imagine?

No you have to select the bottom one then the top will go away. The default one shows you played a scam on att and got rid of your data plan and it was automatically put back on to that one.

It won't let me chose that option. Error message comes up saying it is incompatible with my device or to call. I've heard some others here report the same thing and a couple said they were able to make the switch. Should I call and have the switch made?

I have not been able to change to the other $30 data plan and have not called c/s. My guess is it's because AT&T still has your dumbphone IMEI on file even though OLAM shows that you're using the iPhone. If you call and give them your iPhone IMEI, then you could switch to the $30 unlimited data. On the other hand, C/S could switch you to the 2gig data instead. I'm not sure if I want to take that chance.

I decided to take one for the team and see what would happen if I called AT&T with my current "Automatic Upgrade" Unlimited iPhone Data Plan on my account. I told the CSR I was back to using my iPhone and that I was just wanting to make sure there wasn't anything else I needed to do. The CSR was more than happy to help, and told me he would add my iPhone IMEI # back into the system. Once he did that I was able to go back to my OLAM page and change to the other Unlimited iPhone Plan that does not identify me as being automatically upgraded from a non-iphone plan. So now there's really nothing in the system to identify me as being much different than any other unlimited plan (other than the fact that it says "added on 9/12/2010").

So just give AT&T a call, tell them you're back to using the iPhone now and have them put the IMEI # back in the system. This will let you switch to the other unlimited plan.

Eventually the OLAM will automatically get updated with the new iPhones IMEI #. So you are better off NOT calling because the rep may notice something strange with all the data plans.

how does your account automatically get updated with the imei number?

well i am just gonna let mine sit then and see what happens when my new billing cycle starts and see what happens then. should be interesting

OLAM will eventually show which phone you are using when you make a phone call or use data. AT&T will always have the IMEI # of the phone you last gave them.

so calling in like Exegesis48 did to have them update his IEMI number is pointless?

i can confirm that you need to call in to give them your iemi number. ATT does not have it and i have been using the phone for calls and data all weekend. i just did it. very simple. just tell them you went back to your iphone and you want them to have the proper iemi number on record. don't even mention your data plan or anything and they enter it and say have a nice day. just went to my olam and made the switch from the auto added i phone plan to the unlimited iphone plan and now only the one shows... so to anyone who has both these plans showing and can not switch over on olam i would call and give them your iemi number. piece of cake. so thanks to Exegesis48 for taking one for the team. lol mad props!!

Calling and having AT&T update the IMEI is the only way to go. Waiting for OLAM to automatically update is pointless.

i see that now. did you call and have it switched as well? all looks good on my olam now so we will see in 9 days when my new billing cycle starts if it carries over

I did this about 2 months ago and have gone through 1 billing cycle. Nothing happens when billing cycle kicks in. If OLAM had 2 different $30 data plans, it'll still be there.

jas1973: I did this with 2 lines. Line 1 was switched out of unlimited data and I didn't realize it until I saw *data# showed 3megs overage. I'm not sure how I was kicked out of unlimited data.

Line 2 still shows 2 different data plans. I haven't called to change the IMEI #'s yet.

Ya same here. I just called and told them I need to update IMEI number and the CS rep did it with no questions. Only thing she did after switching was called my iPhone on another line to make sure it was working. And after the call, went to my OLAM, and switched to the right Unlimited Data Plan.

I suggest adding that info into the guide.

some say it does not matter so i guess that is why it is not in the guide.. but i just felt better having the auto added data plan removed.

I just called into CS and tried to update the IMEI # so I could switch to the real iPhone data unlimited plan in OLAM instead of using the automatic plan (so I can rest at ease I guess). Here is what happened:

Rep 1) Called in and said I'd like to switch back to using my iPhone and here's the IMEI #. He took the # and said "Which data plan would you like? The $25 2GB plan or the 200MB plan?" He then said I was not eligble to keep the existing plan on the account. I hung up.

Rep 2) Called back a few mins later. Rep updated the IMEI # and then said "I'll keep the unlimited data plan on there OK?" I said thanks and hung up. Then logged into OLAM and updated the plan and it finally went through for the real unlimited plan and not the automatic plan with the error message.

Whew!
