The $30 unlimited data on the iphone does not include texting...you would need an additional texting plan for that.
Ohh got it. So somewhere in the process the plan switches from $30 Data + Text for non-smartphones to $30 Data for iPhone? I knew it sounded too good to be true haha
Didn't work for me. I called in last week and gave them the imei for my dumb samsung. Then switched to the $30 dumb data plan. Never got a text message so I called in this afternoon and gave the csr the imei for my iphone. And he insisted I needed to choose between the 200MB and 2GB. I told him I'd think about it and call back. And after rebooting my iphone it seems I'm suddenly on the 2GB and Messaging 200 (total $30).
One possible issue is that I've had the data plan taken off the iphone (saying I'm switching to the samsung to avoid a data plan) several times. I did have the unlimited data plan when I started with my iphone, several months ago.
Do you think there's any hope in calling again?

Yeah its not working for me either. I didn't get the texts or anything. I waited 24 hours and called today.
I talked to one rep that just said that there is only the 200mb and the 2g option. I hung up.
I called again and the lady said that I cant be grandfathered in once you switched your sim card to a dumb phone. She said they should have told me before and it is not in their system anymore. I hung up on her too and now dont know what to do

As has been said, it can take time. The key is to make 100% sure that you have the dumb phone plan set up correctly on your account.
If you have already started messing with the 2gb iPhone plan etc, you need to start over, and get back on the phone to AT&T. Call them and have them set up your dumb phone IMEI with the $30 unlimited text/data for non-smartphones.
Once that is setup up you should be able to confirm it is the correct plan by logging into OLAM on AT&T's website.
Once you are sure it is set up on your account, put the SIM card back in your iPhone and be patient. If you absolutely need to access the internet in the meantime on your iPhone, then reference the benm hack above.
After a while (some people have waited up to 4 days), you will get the messages saying you have automatically been switched to the iPhone plan. You should then be able to log back into OLAM and see the $30 unlimited iPhone data plan.

Okay I'm still on the $30 Messaging & Data Unlimited: Quick Messaging/Basic Phones. Ill wait till Monday to see what happens. Do you think the delay has anything to do with jailbroken iPhones?
My phone is jb but I doubt that matters. I waited 5 days if you include today with no text message. When I was trying to keep the data plan off it would take 30 days (I think) before the system would automatically add back a data plan. Hopefully I don't have to wait another 30 days.

Maybe this is OT, and if it is can somebody point me in the right direction? Is it possible to trick the system into giving me $30 Data + Text for non-smartphones with an iPhone 3gs? I was thinking IMEI spoof...but that hasn't been possible since the 3g if I recall.

I switched over from an ancient Blackjack smart phone about 2 months ago when I got a good deal on the iphone3g. Used the sim out of my old phone for a few days but eventually ended up talking to tech support because my data plan that I was purchasing for $20 stopped working. I was then informed by a CSR that I was not allowed to use my iphone on my gophone plan. I can talk and txt with it...but no data.So, I just want to know if that is true? and if it is...is there a way around it?

Well...I have never used a goPhone plan, so I'm not sure this will answer your question however i HAVE successfully used an iPhone with only text and voice. I disabled all data (including mms messages) through AT&T before inserting my sim into my iPhone 3gs. I also disabled the "3g" and "cellular data" toggles in the settings menu. AT&T hasn't said anything yet, and it's going on about 3 months this way.

Via research, it is impossible to unlock my iphone because I upgraded my iphone to 4.0.2 so I am stuck with Att and I cannot get into a contract right now so I am ALSO stuck with my gophone account but if ANY one can guide me through on how to get and use data with my phone will be greatly appreciated...thank you. The second time it worked. I got the text messages in an hour. No idea why it didn't work the first time.
Like everyone else I have the 2 "Data Plan for iPhone" with the first plan selected. It sounds like people are divided about whether to leave things as-is or call in to give AT&T the correct imei so you can switch to the second (grandfathered) plan?
so self what exactly did you do?
Did you reset the whole thing went back to the 2gb plan, then canceled and switched to the $30 unlimited plan? Or did you call in again?
First time. Put sim into dumb phone. Called in and told them I wanted to switch from iphone to dumb phone with no data package. Gave them imei of dumb phone. After hanging up, added the $30 mobile web unlimited package online. Put sim into iphone. No texts (or internet) for 5 days.
Second time. Repeated the above. There was a slight difference in that I had the csr add the mobile web unlimited package.

A lot of comments here about getting the iphone to work with goPhone data plans. If you want, turn on member email permission in your control panel and I can send you anything else i come across that may help...I think both of our issues are slightly OT for this particular forum

after reading this post I check my att manage feature, and when I scroll down I saw $30 data unlimited select, does that mean I got unlimited data?
its kinna weird cuz I choose 2GB data for $25 somehow I got $30 for unlimited.

I didn't get the texts and decided I was gonna give up and switch back to my 2gb plan. Called in today and told the guy i need to swtich my IM something number. Told him I switched to my phone and want to switch back to my iphone. He said okay and we will get you back your unlimited data. He said my history said that I had a 2gb plan. I told him that was weird and my mom (to head of the family plan) said I had unlimited. He put me on hold and then got his manager to set it up for me and now I have it. So yeah in conclusion never give up!!!

That's basically what I did...I think both our reps had seen the $30 text/data plan from the dumbphone and thought it was the $30 unlimited data for iphone. They look simliar in the wording
