all he has to do is log on to olam and try.

i would love to have an iphone on my account with out having to pay for a data plan as one person on my account is not a data user anyway. she uses it simply for phone and ipod and thats it.

He MIGHT be able to remove the dumbphone data plan BUT, as soon as the network detects the iPhone, it'll add a data plan back on, most likely the 2GB. Also techigirl mentioned the system still thinking he's using a dumbphone. Well in terms of IMEI sure, but the system will detect the iPhone even without the correct IMEI in place for the iPhone. Then once that takes place, the data plan should auto add onto the account. Again this is all based on previous experience. As to whether or not its changed due to the loophole, I cannot answer that.

If I had a phone stuck in the "dumphone data plan" I would. I only put it out there for someone stuck there to try and see what happens just for the hellavit.

yes the network will pick up his iphone on the network and might give him what ever data plan they give now. but you can not make any changes to your data features on olam until you call them and give them your Emei #

if your data plan is automatically going from the $30 dumb phone data plan to the $15 2gb data plan after you make your initial call with your iphone then it seems like the loop hole has been fixed. If you log onto olam and look and see you are set on the 2gb plan you will most likely not see the unlimited iphone plan available. And when you try to make any kind of change to your features you will get an error message saying to call att. Then they will ask you for the Emei number of your phone to make your olam functioning again.

You mean $25 2GB ;) I think a lot of people would LOVE the 2GB to be $15. And yes, until the correct IMEI for the iPhone is given, he cannot pick an iPhone data plan, nor change his dumb phone data plan, since the iPhone is still attached to the account.

I will say I cannot say whether the loophole has been closed or not, but I think the two main problems are that those who do not get unlimited are either A) Being placed on the incorrect $30 data plan for dumb phones or B) A lot of people are new to OLAM and the inner-workings of AT&T. I don't think they understand how to do things. Obviously this isn't targeted at everyone, just that it seems some people don't understand what exactly is going on with their data plans and accounts. This perhaps may even include people not knowing what to ask for in terms of $30 data plan and whatnot.

yes $25 2gb plan. i got confused between that and the $15 200 mb plan, the gb's and mb's always mix.

I'm not sure if it still works, but I think the issue has to do with when you did it. I think you did it before some of the new posts about the loophole not working anymore. That's just my guess though.

I started it on the 24th Sep can't get much more recent that that. I wonder if it has to do with which region your in. I know with Verizon users are broken up into regions and some features are different depending on which region you live in.

And what you just said agrees with my point. The 24th was that Friday. It seems those who have posted that it doesn't work started it that weekend. I'm not saying this is correct, but just that it seems quite coincidental. But again, this is just a guess based on what people have posted, that's all that we can truly go on as to whether or not this still works.

I tried this again this morning and got the 2 texts this time. I can confirm that this still works. $30 unlimited data!

Can I do this process even though I just open an acct with ATT, less than a month?

I thought that ATT requires us to keep iphone/data for 2 years. so that they can make money for subsidized iphone. so if I switch to dump phone, they would not make any money from data plan?

is that correct?

No you can still do it. iPhone data is only required if you have an iPhone activated...

Some more info regarding the previous message.

The rep was unable to find the $30 dumbphone plan. She said it didn't exist and I didn't want to fight with her so I told her never mind an hung up (after the ESN's were switched). I went to the OLAM and it still showed the iPhone. I made a couple calls with the dumbphone and it then showed up correctly online as a Krzr. The $30 dumbphone plan was right there under FEATURES/DATA so I manually added it myself (can't understand why the CSR's can't find it). I immediately removed the SIM and put it back in the iPhone. After 2 calls the iPhone was back in the OLAM.

About 3hrs later got the text. Bottom line is if the CSR can't find the $30 dumbphone plan like mine couldn't just have her remove all your data and text plans from the "updated" dumbphone account then do it yourself.

anybody still having issues PM me. Sorry, i have been away for sometime..:D

Oh and forgot to tell you guys, this loophole is alive.....

@Gadget88

Do you think that this method works good? What pitfalls should I avoid trying this method. I had problems using the one detailed at the start of this thread and had no such luck getting Unlimited Data. I might as well try this "alternate" method

Prorated Charges

For those interested in what your bill might look like after working all these changes. I've attached a screengrab of my bill following the iPhone Unlimited trick.

Mine is exceptionally messy as I had to try multiple times to get the trick to work (my own stupidity). Turns out my bill was hardly effected at all, in fact, going from the $25 to the $30 unlimited plan, and my bill seems to be just about what it normally would be, maybe $6 higher.

That's great! :D You must have had the CSR's head spinning when they looked at your account.

Tried it last night around 9:00 pm and received 2 texts at exactly 7:00 am this morning. Never received a 3rd text but my OLAM says i have unlimited data! My internet is working like normal but I had to reset my voicemail pw. I purchased my iPhone 2 weeks ago and I am a new ATT account member. It still works! Thanks gadget88!!!!! I LOVE YOU!

What was your process? what did you ask for when you spoke with the CSR?

The process was extremely easy. I pretty much followed the directions from the first post exactly. I called the CSR and asked him to activate my Nokia 2320 Dumb Phone from my iPhone. He simply asked for the IMEI number from
the dumb phone and the SIM card # from my iPhone. When he realized I switched from a high end smartphone to a extremely low end dumb phone he actually made a joke about what an expensive paper weight my iphone was going to be. lol. He really had no idea what my intentions were. He put me on hold for a few minutes and came back to tell me i was all set. I then asked him to add the $30 unlimited data package and it took him awhile to find it but he was happy to add it. You must add the unlimited $30 data plan (with text, picture, web) and NOT the $10 unlimited data plan (data only) or it will not work. He insisted to call me to make sure my newly activated Nokia would work but I told him that it was unneccessary. Once we hung up, I popped in my sim card and turned on my iPhone and made a call. I never even opened the Nokia that I bought at radioshack because
IMEI # was actually listed under the box. I got my texts about 10 hrs later and i was offically on a unlimited data plan for the iPhone! I was on the phone with the CSR no more than 10 minutes.

if I use my iphone to call att with the sim card in the iphone, does this work? Sound like you took our sim out of iphone before calling att and put it back after the call?

That is correct. I removed my sim card out of the iphone to write down the sim # on it. I left it out of the iphone and made a call using my gf's cell phone and after the call was complete, I put it back in the iPhone then turned it back on. I'm not sure if you could make the call using the iphone since the CSR would probably ask you to use a different line. It would probably be wise to make the call using a different line anyways to make things as smooth as possible.

is Nokia 6350 a dumb phone? it has 3G feature but not required to buy data plan from ATT.

I called and ATT asked for IMEI of my nokia phone only. I asked if he need my iphone ICCID but he said no need for iphone ICCID.

after 1 hour, no message. my account shows:

Text, Web, Email Users Messaging & Data Unlimited: Quick Messaging/Basic Phones
$30.00 Unlimited Text Unlimited Data

iphone data unlimited option does not show yet
