after 2 hours, received two text messages and an email "...Our records indicate your iPhone does not have the correct data plan. We have added the appropriate Data Plan for iPhone. We've also added a messaging package to match the messaging plan included in your previous data and messaging bundle..."

my acct shows:

iPhone 3G Data Features
Enterprise Data Plan for iPhone

Data Plan for iPhone $30.00 N/A Unlimited Current
Data Plan for iPhone $30.00 N/A Unlimited Select

weird thing is that there are TWO duplicated "Data Plan for iPhone" options: one is checked "current" and the second one is unchecked "select".

I have to remove the $20 messaging package myself. don't need text

You'll need to call AT&T and ask them if you need to do anything now that you're back to using your iphone. Be sure to play dumb and don't imply you know what you're doing. Hit at the fact that you had to give them a number (IMEI) when you switched to the dumbphone. They will then update your IMEI # to that of your iPhone and you will be able to select the "non-automatically added" iPhone plan from your OLAM.

Again, if they give you any trouble or ask you to select a limited iPhone plan, just hang up and call back for a different rep.

I thought I am set now that I have unlimited iphone data. what you saying is not described in the process from the first post. why do I have to call back and change IMEI? what is "non-automatically added" ?

note that I edited my previous post with more detail

Your olam is showing two unlimited iPhone plans. And one is checked and it says automatically added iPhone plan. The other is unchecked and just says iPhone unlimited data plan. You can try to make the switch from the auto plan on your olam yourself but it will not let you. Some here including myself called up and given them the Imei number of the iPhone so they have the correct info on record. After you do that you will be able to log onto your olam and switch from the auto added data plan to the regular iphone unlimited plan.

There has been debate wether this is necessary or not. Some feel that having the auto added plan on your account could raise a flag since AT&T does not offer this plan anymore and can expose the loop hole.

But many have just left it the way it was and say it is all good anyway. It's your call. I felt better calling and giving them my proper Imei number since AT&T system does not pick this up on its own.

your're right. I called back and att said that my acct still have the nokia IMEI number. I gave them my iphone IMEI and ICCID. when I called ATT first time, he did not asked for iphone ICCID.

by the way, two duplicated "Data Plan for iPhone" options are exactly the same. I don't see "automatically added iPhone plan" anywhere. how do I know which one is "auto added" ? are you saying that I should select the second one (not current one) and submit the change?

edit: ok I see the description of each option. I might change to the second one and remove the auto-add one.

I just removed the automatically added iPhone plan and added the other one. now my acct shows only one "Data Plan for iPhone" $30.00 N/A Unlimited Current

if ATT see this as a widespread problem, they can easilly do a swift undo by checking for anyone acct with iphone data option active since July this year :(

Not really because if you had an iPhone 3GS TODAY with the old $30 unlimited data from before the change over and you replaced it with a new iPhone 4 TODAY you could still keep the $30 plan. They would have to look for grandfathered users as well. Truth is, they probably don't care. For the small number of people doing this and the extra $5 they are making they don't stand to lose too much.

I just did the "switch" Friday and mine is only showing 1 iPhone plan and no other options at all but it also thinks I am using a Moto Krzr.

That's interesting but I'm sure iPhone will pop up there soon enough.

The process was extremely easy. I pretty much followed the directions from the first post exactly. I called the CSR and asked him to activate my Nokia 2320 Dumb Phone from my iPhone. He simply asked for the IMEI number from
the dumb phone and the SIM card # from my iPhone. When he realized I switched from a high end smartphone to a extremely low end dumb phone he actually made a joke about what an expensive paper weight my iphone was going to be. lol. He really had no idea what my intentions were. He put me on hold for a few minutes and came back to tell me i was all set. I then asked him to add the $30 unlimited data package and it took him awhile to find it but he was happy to add it. You must add the unlimited $30 data plan (with text, picture, web) and NOT the $10 unlimited data plan (data only) or it will not work. He insisted to call me to make sure my newly activated Nokia would work but I told him that it was unneccessary. Once we hung up, I popped in my sim card and turned on my iPhone and made a call. I never even opened the Nokia that I bought at radioshack because
IMEI # was actually listed under the box. I got my texts about 10 hrs later and i was offically on a unlimited data plan for the iPhone! I was on the phone with the CSR no more than 10 minutes.

Did you have data while waiting for the texts to arrive?

Give it a day TB07-NJ. Mine was just like that for the first day, and then suddenly it converted over and I had the two iPhone plans.

There's an argument to be said for either camp, whether you want to stay on the auto-added plan or switch to the real $30 unlimited plan.

I personally felt better about having the real plan, as at the very least, it will draw less suspicion when a CSR is dealing with my account.

And as Jas said, I don't think AT&T will be "auto-correcting" this option short of notifying customers to advise them of the change.

If you are on the $30 dumbphone plan, you will not be able to surf on your iPhone. As others have mentioned, there's a workaround fix using the old help.benm trick (google it). It will allow you to have data in the mean time, but honestly, it's only a few hours, and I've found modifying my carrier settings to be unstable in the past.

You will not have 3g service on your iPhone during the wait, though you can access wifi and use that for the meantime. And of course you can do what Exegesis48 had mentioned if you prefer. What's strange though is that I still had the 3g icon on my iphone but 3g never worked. Immediately after I received my texts I was able to access 3g. My voicemail pw had to be reset too.

It's been 3 days. :) Did the change Friday AM.

They still have the Krazr IMEI on record which is probably why it's still showing the Krzr online. I hesitate calling them to update the IMEI due to the way it was switched.

Didn't work for me :(

I called and followed the directions early saturday morning, and saw on the OLAM that I was switched to the $30 unlimited data/text/web for quickmessaging phones. I wasnt on the family text plan. I never reveived the texts or emails, and since saturday I have been waiting patiently calling people and trying to use data but it still didnt switch over. It's been about 4 days now, with no text or email, and OLAM still shows the quick messaging plan.
I just called att, talked to a CSR and told him I want to use my iphone and wanted to use the unlimited on it. He said he had to look into my history first. He saw I was on the 2 gb plan only, and wouldnt budge. I hung up. any help?

What do I do now? My wife and I bought the iphones because of this loophole. How can I make it work?

Call them and switch back to the 2GB plan. Wait a day or two and then try again. Took me a couple of trys.

I think this worked...

It has been many days since I called att and switched the imei to the gophone and got on the $30 unlimited text and data plan. Nothing has happened.
So I just did the help.benm thing for both phones and now the iphones are able to get on the internet! So why would I want to switch to the unlimited iphone plan for 30 bucks when right now I get unlimited data AND unlimited texts on the iphone with the benm thing?

And will the iphones ever switch over to the iphone plan? They haven't so far (4+ days)

I'm currently stuck with the dumb phone plan of $30 and i've called multiple times and the customer rep will not grandfather me into the unlimited plan for the iphone 4 because my previous plan isnt for a smart phone....any help?

There's nothing wrong with wanting unlimited iPhone data, but I don't like how you worded that. Basically you're getting a $20 add-on for free. I just disagree with those who are "cheating" the system. Just getting unlimited net is okay in my mind, but to get unlimited net and free text messaging? I think that's a little over the top.

Yay!!!! Finally!!

Well, after doing the help.benm thing and using data and texts for a few hours, my wife and I finally got the text messages saying our plan was switched. I checked on OLAM and sure enough, we were both on the $30 unlimited plans.
I think the kicker was using data. I think that's what triggered the system. Now I changed us on the $30 family unlimited texts, and we are all set! Thanks! This totally worked! Thanks OP! :):apple::D:):D

I am looking at getting an iPhone this weekend on my sisters family plan. They have more than enough minutes, already have unlimited text and she owes me  So right now all I need to do is get a data plan and pay the $10 a month extra line fee. Is there anyway I will be able to get the iPhone with the standard 2GB plan and then do this trick in a week or 2 without screwing up anything else on my sisters account? I want to make sure it will only switch me to the unlimited data, not get rid of her unlimited text or anything else. Thanks for the help all!
