ok then i will let you know how i make out and detail my procedure
I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and do it this Saturday. Does anyone know how much of a hit will my bill take with prorated charges? Also will this affect my rollover minutes?

Got my iphone in Aug but finally tried to switch to unlimited yesterday by calling to give the IMEI of my dumbphone. I haven't received any texts from ATT yet, so today I put my SIM into my dumbphone to at least call and check email and will put it back into the iphone and make calls again.
I know I may have to wait a few days, but I also have the combined billing w/ my home and internet, so I'm unable to check OLAM directly.
Do you think this will affect the switch or should I call and decombine my bill?
I can also get the IMEI from a friend's old 2G iphone but physically can't get my hands on one, so I can't log into iTunes with it. If the dumbphone method won't work, would calling in the 2G IMEI and requesting a 2G unlimited dataplan work? Or are those only grandfathered in?
Did you add the $30 Unlimited Data and Text plan for the dumbphone? From what I have read that's the feature that kicks in the whole "unlimited iPhone data loop hole". If you didn't, call back from the dumbphone and ask them to add the text/data plan. That should do it...
Has anyone else had an issue with a bill being delayed?
I paid my last bill on aug 28th - it is now sept 23rd and I dont even have a bill to view, let alone pay.

I dont remember exactly which date I performed the switch to unlimited, but could it be that from 28th to the unlimited date is prorated, and a new bill cycle starts from unlim date?
Has anyone else noticed something like this?
I'm going to try this today. The directions are pretty clear that you use the iPhone to make the call, just seems funny that they would do the switch while the SIM is in use on the iPhone. I'll report on my success or failure. Great thread!
If you press *225# on your phone, you can get the balance. I know somebody who unknowingly went on paperless billing but never received an email of the bill. That person didn't realize their account was past due until the phone was shut off.
Billing cycles are not affected by any changes in your account including changes to the voice plans, data plans, texting plans and equipment upgrades. I have been through all of them and have never had my billing cycle changed.
Strike 1 - Went thru the whole thing with no problem until we got to the data plan. He kept trying to give me the $20/$10 plan and said the other plan must be some sort of local promotion. I canxed the whole swap and said I'd call back later.
He told me a few times that there's no difference in the two plans and asked why it mattered. I can't see any difference. Are there any? even minor ones?
are you on a family plan? the difference for me was the $20 data plan was a family data plan that worked for all 3 oh my phones. i simply called and said i saw the $30 unlimited data text plan on my olam but it would not let me switch and to call them. so i did and told them i want the 30 plan because i dont want to share the data with the other two users on my account. golden from there.
i did this whole process the other day again. i simply took the sim out of one of my iphone 3gs and stuck it in an lg dumb phone and made a few calls. the lg automatically showed up on my olam when i signed in. and it automatically put me on the $10 text and $20 data. so my only call to them was to have them switch the data plan to the unlimited plan for dumb phones. never mentioned iphone to them. switched to the iphone again and with in an hour it was all done
Yes, we have a family plan with 3 lines and no text plan. There is another dumb phone on the account and when I view it in OLAM, I can see the $30 unlimited plan. I tried to tell the rep that's the one I want but he kept saying that there's no difference...
Edit: I'm not sure I have the type of familiy plan you are refering to. We don't share data...
