Man I can't get a ***** break....Went to charge my "dumbphone" so I can do the bait and switch and the phone won't turn on. Can it still work if I only give them the IMEI? Also, does it work with a 3G dumbphone?

Yes I did it with a 3G dumb phone so it is possible. And many here done it with out ever powering up the dumb phone. They just used the Imei number so you can still try

2 ip4, same dumbphone?

I have two ip4 on a family plan.

Can I use the same dumbphone to activate the unlimited data plan on both phones?

My guess is if this is the case that I have to do it one at a time. Wait until one phone is activated and then call again and activate the second. Right?

so after its all said and done and your iphone has the $30 unlimited data, is it mandatory to call at&t back and have them switch your dumbphone back to the iphone? i ask because i will be using my mom's nokia gophone as the dumbphone, but she will need it back after im done with this task lolz.

Bad News Guys.....

Hey guys I think this "loop hole" is dead.

After trying three times to change the IMEI without actually using the dumbphone I successfully achieved the change of IMEI with a rather suspicious sounding CSR but he actually setup the correct $30 data, text and email plan. After 30 - 40 minutes confirmed in OLAM that the change had been correctly done (this was around 9:00am on Saturday). Went to work and started using my ip4 as normal after the change and but didn't get data on it. I thought that it needed some time to the effect to take effect on the phone. After an hour I got 3G data activated and two consecutive messages:

#1 "At&t free msg: did you know an eligible dat plan is required for your iPhone? Call 611 or visit att.com/iPhoneplans for details."

#2 "At&t free msg: Your iPhone requires an eligible data plan. We have added an appropriate plan and messaging pkg. Call 611 or go to att.com/iPhone plans for info"

I thought that it was successful and that I had Unlimited Data after leaving work (around 2:00pm) I checked the AT&T app and it showed the 2GB plan. Got home checked OLAM and it also showed the 2GB plan.

Called AT&T three times and the three guys said that AT&T was aware of a problem (all three used the word "irregularity") in the system regarding the Unlimited Plan for dumbphone and the migration of that plan to smartphones. And that the plan they gave me was the appropriate one. I don't know if it was me having bad luck or the actually are taking the steps to "fix" this but it sucks big time. I hope you guys are luckier than me and that it works for you guys. I might try this again next month.

still waiting to get the texts, its been a day and a half

UPDATE: Got the two texts and an e-mail at 5AM, everything looks good I now have unlimited data.

Any luck or is this a dead issue now?

Not sure it's dead, but I'm at 4 days with no texts (and no 3G data). I'm sure the right plan is selected in OLAM. I'm pretty close to throwing in the towel and calling to have them manually switch back to my iPhone.

I would think if it was dead I would have been automatically switched to the 2GB plan. Don't know what to make of the "no response".

what does your olam say when you log on? i hope it isn't dead because my girlfriend is getting a new iphone tomorrow and was hoping to pull the switch for her and looking like a hero, lol

If you look a couple of posts back I confirmed it still works did take a couple of days though. Have to make sure they add the correct data plan for this to work.

I'm not sure if it still works, but I think the issue has to do with when you did it. I think you did it before some of the new posts about the loophole not working anymore. That's just my guess though.

What I don't understand is that there were no texts at all (4 full days) I would think if the loophole was closed, you'd still get the texts, but be switched to the 2GB plan. I think one person said that's what happened to them.

so you never got the texts but your account says you are enrolled in the unlimited data plan for iphone?

No, it had me in the $30 Unlimited Data, Text plan for dumb phones. Waited 4 days but no texts. Data didn't work on the iPhone.

and you are using your iphone now? so it is not switching over on it's own anymore it looks like. you might have to call and hope they do it for you since it is not going over on it's own. sounds like it is not working anymore

After 4 days, I called and got switched back to my iPhone (2GB plan). I'm going to try again.

I wonder what would happen now if you're "stuck" on the dumbphone plan but using the iPhone and you went into OLAM and removed that $30 data/text plan entirely since it isn't working on the iPhone anyway?

Would you now have an iPhone without a data plan? Or which data plan would they now force you into? Or could you change the APN to what is on the dumbphone and get data back?

the problem there is when you switch back to your iphone and go to olam and try to make a change to your features it does not let you do it. you have to call them to give them your phones IMEI number for you to be able to edit any of your features using your olam. you can try and it will tell you to call because what ever feature you are trying to add is not compatible with your equipment.

I think he meant to remove the dumbphone data plan and not add the iPhone data plan. Since the system still thinks he's using a dumbphone, I don't see why he can't remove the dumbphone data plan.

I don't know for sure though.

all he has to do is log on to olam and try.

i would love to have an iphone on my account with out having to pay for a data plan as one person on my account is not a data user anyway. she uses it simply for phone and ipod and thats it.
