EASY method - New data plans to Unlimited

Tried this again.

My OLAM is showing the $30 "Messaging and Data Unlimited: Quick Messaging/Basic Phone" Plan with the Sony w580. Activated benm.at to use 3G. Hope it works...third time is the charm, right? My bill is gonna be a mess.

jrdsep, your bill looks correct in your OLAM. I would just wait for the texts to come. The help.benm.at hack works with ios 4.1 since I just used it last night. It will allow you to use data on your iphone.
Whether it helps AT&T's systems realize that you're using the data plan and speeds up the 2 texts that you're looking for I'm not sure about. I'm sure that you'll get your unlimited data.

Is it possible to do this if I am on a family plan which has unlimited texting without screwing that up for the other lines on the plan? My understanding is I need to switch to the $30 data+text on the dumbphone after removing my $25 2GB plan. I just want to be sure I won't cause trouble for my other family members by doing this. Thanks for the help!

You need to remove family text first, add your $30 dumb phone plan and then re add family text afterwards.

Would I be removing family text from just my line or the entire account? Obviously it will look odd to a rep so I am hoping I can do it completely via the online system like some previous posters. Sorry for all the questions, not familiar with family plans at all as I have always been on my own.

You would be removing family text from the entire account. Add a small individual text on the other accounts first.

You can do those steps on OLAM before calling c/s.

While no one has tried, I seriously doubt that your suggestion would work. I would stick to the script.

New user here. I just changed over to a 0 month plan with AT&T from Tmobile today with two dumb phones. The data plan on the OLAM shows the correct dumbphone plan ($30) and I then switched the sims over to 2 iphone 3gSs' I had 2 unlocked iphones on tmobile so I forgot to turn 3G on when I put the sim in. I did do that at around 640 PM PST but I have yet to receive the text messages and I did the help.benm.at activation at around the same time as well. The OLAM now shows 2 iphone 3GSs on the account but the unlimited data option for the iphone is not yet displayed on the screen. Will post updates as I find out.

After 24 hours, I'm still waiting for the 2 texts to come through. OLAM shows the correct non-smartphone plan. I am able to get internet on the phone but cannot browse and talk at the same time.

I think that you'll be fine. As long as your OLAM shows the correct dumbphone $30 data+text plan, you'll be autocorrected eventually. I had my iphone show up as my current device in OLAM, but it also showed the incompatible $30 dumbphone data+text plan as well. Then 16 hours later, I was good to go. You may try entering *3282# and then "call" on your keypad. You may see a text message that shows somewhere that you have data 0 of unlimited. Whether that refers to unlimited dumphone $30 or unlimited iphone data is unknown to me, but at least it will confirm that you now have unlimited data of some sort. Before I was only showing data 0 of 2048 mb. I'd just use your phone like normal and keep waiting for the texts.

Thanks. I tried that and it shows the 0 of unlimited. I do have data access on the phones and I'm still just waiting for the texts. I'm just thinking of a story that I can tell the CSRs when I do call to get the second unlimited plan option enabled. LOL.

So I activated my new iPhone 4 and when I got home I set up my OLAM and removed the unlimited text messaging feature. I called 611 and spoke to a representative. I told her that I was leaving the country and asked her to change my IMEI# to that of a non-smartphone. She made all the necessary changes, and I verified that my OLAM reflected the $30 unlimited data + messaging plan. After that, I tried to dial *3282# to get the text message to show the "0 data of unlimited used", but instead I got a message giving me the date of my billing cycle and another one stating "Next Bill Cycle: 10/12/2010, TXT/IM Overage:1". Did I do something wrong?

Please help.

Got it to work. Made the switch around 7:20pm on Saturday and by 7:00am Sunday had received both texts. Data was still not working, rebooted ip4 and got data. Eliminated Unlimited Texting. And everything was setup.

Two Question though:

1. The iphone Unlimited plan is showing 0.0Mb of Unlimited used. While the deactivated plan (dumbphone plan) is the one getting the data counted on. Checked OLAM on it shows that the dumbphone plan has been deactivated. Has this happened to you guys? Does it sort itself out by the start of the next cycle?

2. It is showing 2 Unlimited Data for iPhone plans. Anyway to change to the other one without calling AT&T? Or am I ok to leave it like that?

1. This is normal and the 0.0 of unlimited will start going up eventually. It will sort itself out.
2. It's your call about whether you need to change this. Pros of changing: if you call in, a rep will not be able to tell that you have gotten the unlimited data via switching from a nonsmartphone plan. It should be identical to being grandfathered in in appearance. The only way that AT&T would take away your unlimited data would be to look and see if you got unlimited data after June 2010. But they would also have to look at your former smartphone plan as well, b/c you could be on a palm pre with unlimited data, for example, and grandfather in to the iphone unlimited data after June 30. Cons of changing: some people say that b/c you have two iphone data plans, AT&T's automatic scanning may be less likely to catch you since your plan is not likely to be what they scan for. You have some auto-converted nonsmartphone plan to iphone plan. They cite the FAN discounts that people got where having a nonstandard setup allowed them to not get affected by auditing.

I doubt that AT&T will do anything about this, though. But I just wanted to have unlimited data and have it look correct and be indistinguishable as much as possible. The biggest thing is that the plan costs $5 extra a month. That is money that we're paying AT&T and I for one, do not usually go over 2 gb a month anyway.

I have the same situation. I selected the second one and the first one (auto added and selected) was automatically gone. No need to call ATT.

Hey that's cool. I think that someone else was able to remove it themselves as well. I was not, however, so I had to call. It seems like most people do want to only have one of these data plans showing.

Help! This is not working. I did all of this last night (5:30pm) and it is now 7:20am. It is showing the "dumb" plan on my account online, but no data. All I can do is use my phone to make calls.

No texts, nothing!

I switched to the one that was NOT checked and the other one that was originally checked went away. I even received an email from AT&T confirming I replaced "unlimited data with unlimited data."

How much time after both options appearing did you do this?

all you have to do is call att and tell them you want to make sure they have the correct imei number on record.. once they have that on your account you will be able to hang up log onto olam and switch from unlimited to unlimited. do not ask them to do it, they may wonder whats up. don't mention rate plans or data plans at all... and i did mine the same day unlimited data plans showed up on my olam
