concern, not complaint

Edit - here's a link: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbre...ature-regulatory-approval-fda-feature-removed

I was thinking of the Nokia BodyCardio (I think that's the correct name) smart scale that did pulse wave variability. IIRC, they either introduced it - and sold it - before they got FDA clearance, or perhaps it was determined that it needed approval rather than clearance - in any case, they had sold all these scales and had to involuntarily "dumb down" the scale by disabling the function in the app and forcing people to upgrade to the new version of the app. I think that they offered purchasers a $30 partial refund. I don't remember whether they would accept returns from people who said they would never have bought the scale if it hadn't had the feature that Nokia took away. [edit - yes, they accepted returns]

Technically AirPower isn't late yet, but from what I've read they are having hardware and engineering issues which is why it didn't debut alongside iPhone XS & Max.

The hardware for ECG seems to be complete, and it has been cleared by the FDA, so it seems like Apple is just finalizing the software before release.

The bottom line is there is no reason to be up in arms at this point.

Agreed. People here get so worked up over nothing. Hardware is finalized, software has also been developed. Some things are just out of Apple's control. With that said, whenever ECG is released, your Watch has the ability to do it. It's not like if ECG was released next year your S4 will suddenly lose the ability to do it.

No need to flip your arms just yet unless you're trying to trigger the fall detection.

It'll be out when it's out. Likely November, I'd guess. Talking to online support or Apple store employees about future releases would yield no more reliable information than talking to the gardener at Apple headquarters.

In response to the OP's remark that they talked to a person in tech support, and they said....., I've worked in Tech support, (Not apple's though) and can tell you for a fact that the only place that is probably more rumor prone is a high school girls' locker room. Rumors run rampant through any tech support system, that's just the way things are.
I wouldn't place too much stock in what comes out of there.

Plot twist: The tech support person read about it on MacRumors.

Spoke to an online support for Apple and there is NO guaranty that such "technology" may happen this year.
If that is the case its pure deception on the part of Apple to sell watches on the promise of something they may not deliver. $749.00 for a 44mm SS watch ....not happy right now!!!

they got approval from the FDA a day before the presentation. it's going to be in 12.1 and watchOS 5.1

It's not currently in either of those betas. I am running them.

I wouldn't worry though. The hardware is built into the watch, significantly, and advertised. FDA granted preliminary approval. Airpower didn't come out - it's not like they released the hardware. Different animal.

It may get delayed, but it's coming; it's too elemental to the hardware design and too big of a deal to not do it.

why would it need to be in the betas? apple would have had to test and submit the results to the FDA. They can add it at the end or in the last beta

Yup it is the main reason I bought it and sadly I’m past the 14 day return window already.
Why did you buy the Watch before ECG went live? It’s not like you’d have trouble getting one a month or two from now.

There are two and a half months left in 2018. People are getting worked up way too early. Save your complaints for Jan 1 at which time if Apple hasn't delivered, the complaints will be valid.
The complaints would only be valid if Apple never brought these features to this version of the Watch. Also if someone was buying the Watch specifically for this feature wouldn’t they wait to buy it until the feature became available?

People need to stop comparing this to AirPower. AirPower was announced hardware that never shipped. It wasn’t like you bought it with a missing feature Apple promised in a future software update that never came.

Apple has provided the technology, it works and its included in the device. It's up to the laws and regulators in that country to allow the feature to be used. Without approval from regulators for that country, it will be illegal to sell the product.

So perhaps shift your blame from Apple and request approval from your government.

I disagree with this statement. I am one of those that this feature was one of the major selling points. I did not know until after purchase that the software was not included. Apple should not have advertised this feature until the proper approvals to sell were acquired.

At the keynote, it was specifically stated ECG was coming to the USA "later this year," with other countries to follow.
Which counts as “advertised.”

Apple still has some time left this year, but if it’s not in the 5.1 beta, maybe not a lot of time.

Where did you see this feature advertised?
Right here, on the Apple Website.

Could care less to be honest. I certainly did not buy the Series 4 for the EKG feauture.

This whole EKG thing is not something I personally would rely on if I had a heart issue. I go for a complete medical once a year which includes a much more reliable EKG test.

This is a completely useless comment. If you have no input to the thread simply don’t comment.

So, you spoke with the bottom rung on the Apple support ladder, and you are calling Apple out for being deceptive, based on a comment that they made? Interesting. Of course, the bottom-feeder support person knows everything about everything internal to Apple's functionality, process and technology, so why should we doubt you?

Let's wait and see what happens... or, feel free to contact an attorney and get the class action lawsuit train moving out of the station based on your speculation...
