This!

I mean the main reasons to get the new Apple Watch are for a bigger screen, a faster processor, a reshaped design that is lighter and thinner, with double the storage on the GPS/WiFi only models. And for some a more aesthetically pleasing black or red circle vs a red dot.

ECG is a nice to have feature that should’ve perfected before it’s launched. The series 4 is not even a month old yet. Give it time. Many people don’t have their Series 4 watches yet delivered.

Dude, why ruin all their fun with such a logical statement? Heads are exploding and minds are melting down over this... way to crap on their parade. :D

The rumors sites have reported Apple only received FDA clearance the day before the announcement, which is why Apple said the app was coming later this year.

It will be interesting to see on what date the app is released, since we know the date the feature was cleared for release by the FDA (if we believe the rumors).

Apple has already said its coming to the US by the end of the year.

The only question is the rest of the world. That’s out of Apple’s hands.

In still waiting to get even Siri for ATV here in europe so im not convinced that they would apply an application for the watch being ”a medical instrument” (that is needed) if they dont even get siri to work here. Apple pay just arrived here and it works only with couple of banks and places... quite useless.

Apple does all new features for their toys, but it takes always years to able to use them outside usa. Why should i pay the same price when i can use half of the stuff of the device? That is pretty much a problem with apple nowadays. You buy a new toy, but cant use it fully.

You are not limited to officially listed partners. Apple Pay actually works at every terminal that supports NFC (in countries with Apple Pay).

sorry, i ment mobile applications (not only physical places) , but the reality is that apple does co-working only with a one(?) bank here. however, you can add few credit cards too, but i dont want to pay my groceries using a credit card the reason is probably because nfc/mobile payments etc have been here already before apple pay and banks probably dont want to pay anything to apple when they already have their own working systems.

It's not an Apple problem, it's a government regulation problem.

BTW, I'm not dissing the EU. As an example, there are some drugs that are available in the EU that the FDA will not approve here. It goes both ways.

I can understand some of the frustration of paying full price without all the features, but I don't think this comparison is valid.

I think Siri functionality is possibly due to language and localization issues. In the US, Siri has been trained to recognize the names of TV shows and movies, so she understands the difference between a proper noun (TV or Movie title) and a phrase. I imagine the delay in different regions may be due to localization issues.

The ECG is a government regulatory issue outside of Apple's control.

That said, I think the Watch is more important to Apple right now as a product than the TV, so I would imagine they are putting more resources into the Watch internationaly than they are the TV.

when i change the language to english, it still not work - it want me to change the itunes to us-itunes too. i understand that there may be some delay, but then the delay is always ”years”, that i dont understand.

or maybe apple sould have gotten the approval before start selling a product having a feature which not work and may not work ever.

few years ago people were complaining google and especially samsung introducing new features and not developing them further - now apple is doing exactly the same. Siri (still a dumb), localization restrictions for apps, software or hardware - e.g. News doesnt work until i change the region to usa. there are lots of stuff under heavy restrictions and apparently they will rather give us new gimmicks than develope furter their services for rest of the world and it seems to get worse on every year.

Apple Watch promotional material CLEARLY states the feature is coming “later this year”. I am 100% sure they ran this with the Legal dept more than a few times and are at least reasonably certain it’s coming out this year.

Apple's version of clear, is clearly different, but probably legally covered ...

Not sure which part of Europe the previous poster is from, but here in the uk Apple Pay it's pretty much universal, and has been for quite a few years. I quite often go out with no money/wallet knowing I can pay with Apple Pay.

Definately not holding my breath for ever seeing my watch doing an Ecg though.

Ever?

I figured might take months of red tape but if Alivecore can sell me in Australia a Kardia ECG then Apple can sell me the exact same idea but built in to the watch.

In the US the first scan has to be sent to a doctor for approval to unlock the device, but no such restriction applied in Australia.

Are these approved in Europe?

Yes, they are here in the UK. And no need to have a doctor (or anyone else) unlock it. I have one that I purchased about a year ago from amazon.co.uk (AliveCor also sells them direct to consumers, but I have Amazon Prime and went with free next-day delivery).

I think this is interesting - AliveCor has done an outstanding job of pursuing regulatory clearance/approval/etc. outside the US. I wonder how widely and how promptly Apple will do the same? Here's the list of countries where AliveCor can sell Karda products (from their website as of the date of this post):

Kardia is currently approved for purchase and use in over 20 countries. If your device works in the country you bought it, you will be able to travel with it, with no problem.

  • Australia
  • Bangladesh
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Chile
  • France
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • India
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Jamaica
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Pakistan
  • Poland
  • Spain
  • Switzerland
  • The Netherlands
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
If your country is not listed, KardiaMobile is not currently available for sale, and you will not be able to download the Kardia app. Click here for a list of resellers in approved countries.

My Apple Watch Series 4 Nike LTE was delivered today. Until the ECG feature is unlocked, I will continue to use Kardia from Alivecor. It gives me PDFs that I can email my doctor.
