i don't think commenting on someone's (namely a VP and face of Apple) smug character is disrespectful. He presents himself as pompous and in a way I would't like Apple to be seen. Some folks seemed to have benefited from the comment.

I find him awful to listen to on stage, and I get the feeling anything he presents is awful. He, alone, can give me a bias and turns whatever he is touting into a roll-my-eyes "feature". he seems forced. he seems pushy and the example of something that shouldn't come from a guy trying to market products. Maybe an infomercial ...Sham-Wow comes to mind.

Craig? really? The guy is probably the best presenter and the one the audience loves...WTF!

No. It's disrespectful and you defending your snide remark says nothing about your post. No one here benefited from your post and it's frivolous.
You've made 3 posts in this thread. 2 chastising someone and 1 disparaging Cue. To be fair, no one here benefited from your posts either. ;) I mean Rampage slags off on Federighi. You slag off on Cue. The discourse of either post really didn't rise to the level of beneficial, did it?

On topic: I think it good that Apple can admit when they make missteps. It's also key that they realize marketing to perfection leads people to expect perfection. I will always believe that Maps could have debuted with much less criticism had Apple set the proper expectation. Didn't quite do that. Instead we got: "This is {insert multiple superlatives here} Apple Maps. It's {insert multiple superlatives here}. We think it's going to be {insert multiple superlatives}.

I also like the honest about not fully realizing the complexity involved with mapping. I'm guilty of doing the same thing sometimes. I see something that looks easy and think, I could do that since it's only x, y, and z. Only to find out later it took a through w plus x, y, and z to actually make it work.

so sad to see Mac Rumors devolve into a dna troll pool of Apple hate. please go buy a Win10 machine and bitch your asses to your hearts desire on those forums. Don't like Apple, don't buy the products. They really won't miss you. Niether will I. scabs

nah, the Apple maps move existed long before Apple was even remotely in the position to think of cars or self driving cars.

In reality it was a move to disconnect and distance themselves from Google services. Apple still had a year left on their contract with Google for Maps. The contract that was currently in place didn't have google's navigation and added functionality as part of it. Instead of renegotiating to maintain Google Maps as the default mapping application, and paying for the added features (That Android version of Google Maps had), Apple decided to cut it out completely and go their own in house option.

It was a business motivated strategy, not a "customer" driven strategy. it wasn't about having the best option, but the option Apple could control

More like, the option Apple wouldn't have to buy from their competitors, and could be optimized for all of the Apple platforms (including the Mac). One thing I noticed right away with Apple Maps is that it loaded much faster and sucked up a lot less data than Google Maps. So in that respect it certainly is a customer-driven strategy.

Maps totally suck. I sent multiple times a location of a new townhouse development my cousin moved into almost a year ago. Still does not show up on their maps. And you wonder why Google Maps is a MUST HAVE app.

I reported the location of National Monument that was missing from Maps. I got a response back saying that the correction was made. I hadn't been at that point and not for some months afterwards, but the correction was made and the (very complex) boundaries of the park are now reported accurately in Maps. They are sifting through mountains of reports so it is going to take time.

Seriously...I find him creepy and cheesy most of the time but that looks like a super creepy shot. like a "come on ladies, don't you want to come back to my place..."

Someone is jealous of CF attractiveness...

Take a listen for yourself. I'm not hearing any of the hyperbole the last guy mentioned.

What can you possibly want on your laptop or phone that's technologically and physically possible today

Have you seen the Samsung Galaxy S7? An amazing screen would be a good start except we have to wait until 2017 so Apple can release something interesting for the iPhone's 10th anniversary

Isn't there a speedometer in your car already?

I do like seeing the current speed limit in a navigating map, but to tell you the truth, I couldn't tell you if that's an option in either Maps or Google Maps. It's handy when the posting isn't clear or you're in a new place.

As you find the site devolved into a dna troll pool of Apple haters one wonders why you have not moved on. Why waste your time here and get frustrated? Maybe you won't be missed.

You're not supposed to be looking at your entertainment screen hile driving. How would a speed meter (speedometer?) help you?
When navigating (while driving), it is useful to have your current speed and even more importantly, whether you are over the posted speed limit, visible in the navigation system. Garmin has been doing this since the dawn of time and Waze has recently added the feature. Believe it or not, sometimes you miss the posted speed limit signs or it takes a while to get to one e.g. neighborhoods, after entering an expressway, etc.

Crowdsourced traffic rerouting and the over speed limit notification might be enough to cause me to switch from Waze to Maps. As they update Waze it seems to have gotten a little more buggy and definitely slower. Which is a shame as it's a good app.

It would be wildly inaccurate a lot of the time. So... it would force them to display the speedometer only within a periods in which you had a high-confidence of accuracy. Considering that 'speed' plus driving is a legal issue, provided by the vehicle already, it makes sense to just dodge the whole debacle.
That's nonsense. I have compared the speed display in Waze and my car's speedometer many many times. Wake is nevermore than 1mph off the speedometer and usually matches exactly.

Apple once described Maps as the worlds most advanced mapping solution. This blurb was on Apple's website until it was revised due to the extreme humiliation.

You're so wrong! Most of us are loyal Apple fans but that same Apple managed to disappoint and abuse that same share of fans. This time they've gone too far and the eyes of even the most loyal fan are opened.

If we were all like you, Apple as of now will never change and manages to even sell s/h/it when there is an :apple: on it.

Apple failed to ask the very simple question "Is iOS Maps at least as good as Google Maps" ?

The arrogance to force users into iOS Maps and disable Google when their product was so massively inferior is a very dangerous quality to have acquired. That user experience I will never forget

I'm not going to agree with you and stray away from the article any further. But You stating he is 'Pompous' says nothing and means nothing, as if you truly know who he is. Judging from your previous comments, your more concerned about his appearance than anything else. I think this discussion has expended its agenda.

And the word Pompous could potentially be affiliated with any Apple Excutive for that matter.

sure. I bet quite a few are pompous. helps they work at a high level at a very popular company making big bucks with Mega Announcements. I do not know if he really IS pompous, that's why I said he presents himself that way. I also says he "seems pushy" and say how I find him awful to listen to. as to all that, I cannot take what he says to be anything of a high level. so, again, I now saying because of his previous presentations, I find what he says to not hold as much truth.

Maybe he just seems like the Dad from Full House. He's a comedian who had a style that did NOT fit with a young audience yet he was propelled into that roll and as such he displays an odd behavior and joking...could be the writing or it could be his uneasiness. I find CF to be similar.

and Eddy Cue is the guy who loves Hollywood and celebs...I used to find his segments interesting but he seems to be more interested in the flashy people he meets. Tim seems down-to-earth.'

these are my opinions...on a forum...

and I can see some liking him or his style. I do not as do many I know. they don't care for the lame humor or attempts at a joke, better to wow us with specs/abilities and present what the system can do.

When he comes on stage, the volume is lowered and I tend to just read the transcript. My humor is more witty in nature, perhaps that is why I have a distaste for his cliché style on stage

These VPs are like children who functioned well with their father, Steve, around. Now, the kids are running amok having a blast.
