Eddy Cue Explains Why Apple TV+ is Now Apple TV

I wonder if this is a prelude to them rolling out an ad-supported tier (Apple TV Basic), along with a premium, ad-free tier (Apple TV Premium).

I don't really care what they name anything, except if it causes me more work to clarify what I'm actually talking about--which this will. Then I reserve the right to reject or modify their names. I've decided I'm just going to call it Apple TV Streaming, Apple TV App, and Apple TV Box. Clear as day. If they don't like it, they're welcome to come up with something better.

I just use it to distinguish my Apple TV HD box in the other room on my phone, but I never refer to it as that out loud lol
 
Confusing. It does not look like the hardware/set top box is getting a name change. If ever Apple is going to have an ad free tier for TV+ or TV service, the naming is only going to get even more confusing.

You now, i asked this question thenotjer day in a post about Apple Vision Pro. I asked if Schiller would just come up with those names because there’s no way they paid a marketing company for it. Seems like I was completely right, they “just decide” things. There’s no process at all, that’s why everything is called apple something, they can’t even put an effort

That’s why you are not in marketing. Apple branding is the worse it has been. Apple Vision Pro, Apple Intelligence, Apple TV plus, apple watch lmao. What a way to wash off your brand. If the iPhone were to be released today, it would be called Apple Phone.

There was absolutely a distinction between the two and now it will be impossible to tell the difference without investigating whether the app supports your purchased content or just the paid service.

That doesn’t seem like a branding problem, that’s an app problem. Why do you have two apps?
 
Regardless of what Eddy thinks, I've always called the hardware Apple TV and will always do so. I have an Apple TV 1G and certainly don't call it Apple TV 4K, just Apple TV. Same with all the other newer models.
 
I actually thought saying “Apple TV +” was simpler to use because obviously, the plus indicates it’s the streaming service. Nobody calls their Apple TV at home “I’m gonna go watch something on my Apple TV 4K with Siri Remote” lol

We like to think there are top minds at apple making these big decisions behind the scenes. Really. They can be pretty dumb sometimes

This is a big yawn. No one was confused. No one will be confused. No one cares, not even Apple. For Pete's sake, they sent Eddie Cue out to explain it. That shows Apple doesn't care about the change.
 
Who cares?

Does anyone need it explaining that theres a Netflix app and a Netflix subscription that are separate things? Likewise with Prime, Disney etc?

Its pretty easy to understand frankly.

Similar to Prime, the AppleTV app provides access to other things but also the subscribed AppleTV streaming service content if chosen.
