First honest reply from a VP, anywhere.Eddy Cue Explains Why Apple TV+ is Now Apple TV
"We just decided,"
I just use it to distinguish my Apple TV HD box in the other room on my phone, but I never refer to it as that out loud lolI don't think anyone ever calls the hardware 'Apple TV 4K' unless you work in an Apple Store or write tech reviews.
You now, i asked this question thenotjer day in a post about Apple Vision Pro. I asked if Schiller would just come up with those names because there’s no way they paid a marketing company for it. Seems like I was completely right, they “just decide” things. There’s no process at all, that’s why everything is called apple something, they can’t even put an effortEddy Cue Explains Why Apple TV+ is Now Apple TV

That’s why you are not in marketing. Apple branding is the worse it has been. Apple Vision Pro, Apple Intelligence, Apple TV plus, apple watch lmao. What a way to wash off your brand. If the iPhone were to be released today, it would be called Apple Phone.it doesn't take a genius really.

Apple TV app: the player app

That doesn’t seem like a branding problem, that’s an app problem. Why do you have two apps? It’s astonishing that someone in such a position of power has never taken two seconds to consider the many contradictions in their TV branding strategy. He says that their app on third-party devices is already called “Apple TV” but that’s simply not true!
The app that provided access exclusively to their subscription service was called Apple TV+. This is what I had on my Xfinity set-top box. It doesn’t let you watch your purchased TV shows and movies.
The app that provided to all your purchased content, as well as the subscription service, was called Apple TV.
There was absolutely a distinction between the two and now it will be impossible to tell the difference without investigating whether the app supports your purchased content or just the paid service.
It’s just baffling that such a well-paid person can’t understand such obvious problems he is creating.
ITV already exists and predates apple by decadesit doesn't take a genius really.

Maybe they meant loosing 1 billion per year with the service? 🤔Where "are they today" that makes it a "great time" for the rename?
I'm not following Cue's logic.
What's confusing?It's a big confusing mess.
