he already did...he used Pipolomos method and added some things for 4890.

Ok, i guess these "some things" don't make it easy for everyone to build an hybrid 4890 ROM.

mine draws second display just long enough to see it finish....then reboot...no more than 10 secs

Yes, i had enough time to check the max resolution of secondary DVI, 1920x1200 in monitor pref panes.

efi rom location is a bit different in 4890 rom (because bios part is larger) so need to relocate MCuC section and change offset to it in bios part

not that easy for everyone :p

what bootcamped windows shows about link speed/type ?

GPU-Z says (exactly):
Bus Interface:pCI-E x16 (@16)

Doesn't say 2.0... not sure if it's supposed to.

check with Everest utility

but it looks like hardware problem

call appple support and dont tell them u flashed 4890, but using it in bootcamped windows :D

Could it be possible to change the link speed with Reggie SE? (comes with Apple CHUD tools) it seems to be an application able to write into the PCIe register which controls the speed of the bus... But I think this app is too powerful to be used without enough knowledge...

I flash a XFX card Black Edition with success. Everything works under bootcamp Vista 64 partition but i got screen shaking under mac os 10.5.7. Screen shake with finder, safari, iphoto, itune but don't shake when i reed a movie or i play wow or cod4. Quite strange ...

Any idea ?

Netkas give me the good tip. Have to edit the memory clocks with RBE to put them all at the same level.
And the shaking are gone

Can you be a little more clear, for the folks who will read this?

Did you set the clocks to match the original XFX ROM?

Or what do you mean by "all at same level"?

when ATY_Motmot throtle memory clocks, it makes screen shakes.

Well still trying to hunt down the 5GT/s thingy

I was looking at the features and one of them said, "Dynamic Link speed scaling" I tried looping lspci while playing COD4 and it didn't change from 2.5GT/s though :( :(

I'm getting pretty good performance with 2.5... Maybe it's not such a big issue:

madagaacb.jpg

I also tried flashing back to stock firmware... windows reported 2.5GT/s still... That wasn't while playing a game though so who knows with the dynamic scaling stuff

I can't seem to get either of the ROMs to work on my XFX HD489AZDFC 4890. I'm running an 08 octo-core Mac Pro.

If I flash it with the first ROM nothing works at all. The second ROM gets the screen to come up on the gray screen but there are random lines and colors everywhere and it continues to be haywire in Mac OS. It won't even boot into DOS or Windows.

If I put my monitor on my other video card and boot into Mac OS it gives me a warning saying that the power cables aren't connected to my video card -- but they are, and there's no problems when it's using the stock ROM in Windows.

-- Update -- After reading the other 4890 thread, it looks like it probably is a power draw issue... the Molex connectors are sucking. I'll give it a try with the real PCIe connectors from ATI soon.

I just posted about most likely the same problem as you are having in the other 4890 thread. I would wait on purchasing the ATI cables though...because I have the proper ATI cables connected and it still shows the same power warning you are talking about.

It seems that it might be something to do with flashing a MSI "based" rom onto an XFX.

Out of curiosity, has anyone successfully flashed a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4890 Vapor-X 2048MB GDDR5 PCIe card yet?

I don't one can. Reason is that it's not a reference model.
But that's my speculation because with just the injector stuff the card won't work.

IC... That's a shame. So it seems only reference cards will work, right?

I just noticed EVGA are gonna be releasing a Mac version of it's GTX 285 and Apple are selling them for a jaw dropping £369.95!!! :( The equivalent version for PC is only £309.99. £60 Premium cause it says Mac Edition!

So far it seems to be, yes.

And the GTX285 has been out since june somewhere ;-)

I guess you guys are still getting news via schooner over there in the UK.

MacGTX285 been out for weeks.

Be nice to us and we may send news via Steamer;)

That maybe so.. but the UK's site is still showing up as 2-3 wks delivery... Talk about slow!!

Actually, I just got back on Thursday. I don't even know what's happening locally yet! Everyone could be recovering from H1N1 for all I know! The only think I care about right now are those credit-cards are still working :) ~ Bank ain't collapsed yet.

OK... So how i tell which cards are reference cards? Cause going by manufacture codes alone doesn't seem to help, near enough everything quoted on this thread is non-European parts... more importantly, not available through my contacts ><

Currently eyeing the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4890 1024MB GDDR5, at trade i'm looking at £97+tax ~ Bargain!! if doable.
I've looked at Apple's offerings and non of them appeal to me directly, I like to utilize dual-link on both ports if possible... alternatively install a second card??

Does anyone have a EFI rom for this one?

Hi Guys,

Been reeding the hole thread and I have a few questions (sorry) :

- If one successfully flashes the 4890, is it still necessary to modify files in the system ?
- How are you sure what card is a reference card ?
- Can I take, for example, an Asus board ?
- If i follow this tutorial (http://web.me.com/jacobcroft/4870Flash/4870Flash.html) precisely, I will not blow up my card :p?

Thanks for your help.

That looks like a reference card to me. The give away is usually the heat sink and clock speeds.

Unless Apple starts including the 4890 Device id of 9460 into it's drivers, unfotunately....YES

- How are you sure what card is a reference card ?

As stated, fan design and clock speeds seem to match.

The huge GLARING error in the tutorial is that it is ALWAYS best to remove ALL VIDEO CARDS except the one being flashed from the machine. Choose to boot from Wndows/DOS and then close down and remove extraneous cards.
