"LeShi is focused on the internet first, and only then on software, and finally on hardware."

I would think a car is something where you would want to make hardware your #1 priority. The internet and software can be fixed quickly and cheaply with an update or patch. A hardware fix will require a massive recall, take months, and cost millions of dollars in parts and labor.

This guy is a little off his rocker (though that is somewhat a thing leaders need in the 21st century) but I have to agree that apple is falling behind in the innovation department. I am one to upgrade my phone every year, why not when with tmobile it is so cheap and I usually get a cheaper plan with more data, but I don't know if I need to upgrade this September. I have the 6S and I just can't see anything ground breaking coming out (based solely on my opinion) this year. When they release Metal it was so we could have more graphic intense games but I haven't had a game that has made my phone struggle since I dunno...iphone 3G? Anyway as far as phones go something new needs to happen to keep me coming back year over year. I did just buy an iPad pro to replace my macbook air and love it, it gets so much more use than my laptop. With that said, I had an iPad mini that I gave to my kid after not touching it for around a year. I don't see a ton different with the pro than i did with the mini when it was new speaking in terms of innovative wow factor (of course the pencil and apple keyboard are great additions). So yeah, I don't think Apple has anything to worry about but they should really release something ground shaking to really set up a new market for themselves before people lose interest in the next few years.

Says the guy who only has a concept. Even I could do that. This guy has so success or experience yet.
Did you read this bit?
The 43-year-old entrepreneur began his career as a tech support worker before building his own IT and mobile company, estimated to be worth around $4.8 billion…..
Could quite easily mean he has working prototpyes that are as yet to be seen. No, you couldn’t do that.

There is something Aston Martin about that car.

Guy enters a developing market and criticises a company in a different already robust and fairly stagnant market for not innovating...... Yeah ok

Well we shall see when Apple and them start shipping cars, at the moment they might have a concept car but that is it. Also, never heard of them so they might be big in China but they are not in the western world, Apple certainly is in China!

"We believe the next generation of mobile internet will be more open, more ecosystem oriented instead of being a closed loop. Ironically, Apple's over-dominance, lack of internet-thinking and the closed off nature of its systems, all hindered innovation in the internet mobile industry."

Yeah, ok dude.

I rolled my eyes at the same exact moment.

So this guy says Apple doesn't innovate and yet his company is known as the NetFlix of China... yeah that doesn't sound like you just copied anybody...so innovative. Aaaand you have a picture or 2 of a car you dream that can do what? steam your boring state driven netflix...yawn. If I didn't want to drive I would take public transportation.

Well he got some attention which is what he was looking for.
One thing Apple will do that the car industry should of done ages ago is get rid of the concept car non-sense, I don't care what the car could look like, show me what will actually be produced.

The audience of his speech is only for people inside China Firewall in which you cannot reach most of the sites we normally visit. So he is expecting a more open internet world. That is nothing wrong.

Apple must have an alternative plan, than just launching revamped iPhones and iPads in all sizes and adding a pro name to their line-ups for the nex years.

Apple Watch and Apple TV don' t seem to take off as anticipated.

And they'll have to wait for the car till 2020.

What are they up to?
We are missing something.....(I hope)

VR?AR?

This guy is clearly going places! Where, I'm not sure. A carmaker that thinks hardware should be last priority?

The thing that really struck me was the statement that Apple should not have released the SE??? Why? Are companies only allowed to release breakthrough technology products? I bought an SE for my wife and finally got to set it up for her last night. She had a 5s that she had broken the screen on and didn't want a larger phone. She has a cellular iPad in her purse at all times so uses that more than her phone. The SE has the latest camera, latest processor, and is very compact. She loves it.

I think he's just trying to be relevant by attacking the big boys. Sadly I've never heard of him or his company and guessing that he'll fade in to obscurity fairly quickly.

Time to copy China...
The eminent threat may not be what we actually see of new product coming out these years from e.g. China, but the pace and quality that is picking up. In the old days any western digital company could pride themselves of ingenuity and material design, these days are soon ending, the skill level is picking up all around.

Looking at todays selection of gadgets, they are more or less on par all around, so someone has to differentiate to stay. And it could well be coming from an overlooked corner of competition.
Production capabilities is also a very strong advantage (like in China), when you have big ideas.

Even going to Mars may be a China first.

thats the problem when everybody no matter who he is entitled to an opinion
OT: That trope is widespread but wrong. Not everyone is entitled to an opinion. You are only entitled to an opinion if you have given it enough thought and research in order to form an opinion of any value, rather than an opinion formed in 10 seconds with little to no knowledge of what you are talking about. The latter is the most common opinion as we are all very busy looking at our Facebook and Twitter feeds to bother with facts. The entitlement only comes with a reasonable amount of evaluation of the evidence.
