i wonder if anybody with a Vapor case or Atomic case willing to try to paint the inside of the case with clear nail polish instead of taping up the phone itself?
this would be less bulky and provide a complete insulation.
(yes it wont be durable, but this would be a good test if the case's contact has anything to do with the reception)...
if this proves to be a non-issue then the aluminum itself would be the physical barrier that causing the reception degradation...
I honestly don't think it would make a difference. I have a product used as a liquid mask for painting plastic RC bodies. I thought about using it on the inside of the case, but wanted to do some testing first.
I took my phone down to my workspace in the basement, which is the worst signal in the house. Only two bars, but I could make a call to the house. I slid the large side of the case around the phone, didn't install the colored side or the screws. That was enough to drop signal to one bar but unable to make a call. As soon as I slid the metal from around the phone, the call connected.
Next I tried wrapping the edges of the phone in masking tape to completly insulate it from the case. There was no metal on metal contact. Same results as before.
My very quick conclusion, the metal of the case weakens the signal. No amount of insulation is going to change that.
All that said, the phone worked fine while at work with the case on it. But as my home is a weak signal area, there is no way I can use it. Its to much work to take the case off every night when I come home.
