Oh I dunno...I'm going to take a poll when my next class comes in, but I'm willing to bet none of them has ever heard of Pink Floyd (I'm an avid fan). They are 14-17 and have music going constantly.

Oh, probably, most parents don't care what their kids listen to. You can't expect kids to expose themselves to everything in music that has ever been on the planet. Although I absolutely plan on teaching my daughter what Queen, Pink Floyd, Muse, Kasabian, Taylor Swift and all the others are about. The reason is simple. I want to enjoy music together with her, even if it is mindnumbingly stupid music (IMHO) such as the whole Nicky Minaj catalogue.

What? No norwegian true black metal bands, no funeral doom, no blackened melodic death metal, no dark ambient industrial electro fusion and no power ambient. Well, that sucks. Yours sincerly, macrumors music nazi.

So what does he sing?
He's not even a "singer" for the most part, although he has a nice voice. Pharrell does pop music/ R&B. For the most part he promotes new unknown artists. He doesn't even have many albums to his credit. Because he's been in the industry promoting artists is why Apple is working with him. Would you consider his Happy Song to be "Rap music" or "Blues"? I think not.

The should get Steel Panther to headline a show! That'd stir things up. Lets have a bit of old school heavy metal thrown in for good measure!

At least it's not as hip hop heavy as I was expecting.
Steel Panther would be awesome and they tour a lot in the UK. With Iron Maiden putting out yet another great album, they would've been a good pick.

Never been much of a fan of any music Apple has pushed. At least Woz had Metal Day at US Fest in '83 and he and the event organizers did a great job of putting together full days of music that covered several musical genres.

I'd go for a line up of Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost, Gorgoroth, Satryicon, and something commercial like Children of Bodim.

No true black metal fan would spell Satyricon wrong. mother of north.. errr. "god. And it's Bodum, not Bodim. That's what King Diamond uses for his tea.

Music Nazi and spelling Nazi... Nice.

And it's Bodom (as my correction says) not Bodum.

I know it's Bodom, I was trying to make a tea-related joke. Mercyful Fate - King Diamond - Bodum tea supplies - misspelling - bla bla :) I'm not a music or spelling nazi (although a certain member with his porky-primitive "would of, could of, should of" is sad) in any way, I was making fun of the "boo Apple doesn't play this, they play that but I hate it" crowd. None of their events were ever remotely exciting for me, but at least I'm realistic enough to know that they won't really cut it if they have some high end prog band bore the masses with some instrumental insanity :)

Tea is not metal, unlike Duncan Hills Coffee... So the joke went over my head. :)

Sure Apple isn't going to put on acts that are too niche, but it'd be nice if they'd throw rock/metal fans a bone.

It was a far stretch - Mercyful Fate - King Diamond - Tea ;-) . So yes, I deserve to be punched!

It's always the same, big events target the mainstream, and I find nothing wrong with it. You have the usual idiot whining about Apple becoming mainstream while they have done mainstream all along all of the time. Apple never has been closer to industrial than when they hired pop star Trent Reznor.

So you live under a rock?? :D

Would love to see Disclousre.

Well, if the OP lives under a rock, then I do, too. I haven't heard any of these names before either. But compared to most folks around here, I'm probably a dinosaur anyway.

Most of the time that might be right. But there are Wacken, Rock in Rio and even Rock am Ring once had Iron Maiden on stage - and those are really big events.

ok, now I know you are lying. Take That was massive in Germany and was a regular visitor of shows such as Wetten Dass. There is absolutely no way that a German 25<age<45 has not heard of them if they follow the news or normal TV.

kewl...

I only know about 6 artists there through... have no clue what the others are, but it would still be good to watch. :D

It's entertainment....

Just seen they're 'only' giving out 240 tickets in prizes per night, quite low for a 2000 person venue.

Where did you see this if you don't mind?

I've been lucky clearly, but based on that info I've been more than lucky!!!

But we don't all follow the news or the normal TV.

Maybe, but everyone in Germany with a bit of education or general development (both things Winni regularly stresses he has - look at his website) follows the ZDF and ARD channels for news and coverage in Germany. There is absolutely no possibility that you have a TV in your house in Germany and managed to avoid Take That if you were alive between 1990-2000.

I'm not sure where you are from, but these channels are similarly sacred to the German people as BBC is in England.

I've lived in Germany for 11 years still don't watch the news. We don't all do the same things and that's what get lost in these debates.

I thought Carrie Underwood was THE Nashville/American country singer?

Damn, I'm looking at Brittany Spears 2.0 on stage. Such a disappointment she was the only one I thought would be worth watching.
