The fanboyism is far too strong in this comment thread. Come on, guys. Just re-read through this thread. Mindless defending of Apple in every situation. Petty, off-topic insults towards Tesla which is without a doubt (to any person who isn't balls deep in Apple's kool aid) an incredibly great and successful company. What the **** do you think Jobs would have said if other top innovative companies were poaching Apple employees?

So why aren't people complaining about Jobs' reaction to Google poaching Apple employees a while back before both companies put safeguards in place to prevent that? Elon on the surface seems very calm and sensible, and he is -- but to be as successful as he's been you have to be somewhat ruthless and competitive at the core. People's comments here pretty much display a complete ignorance to that fact. What? Did Musk's comments hurt your feelings? Too bad, that's business.

And how people can't understand how he'd be upset for having employees poached is beyond me. Also, I'd be interested to see how people feel in 5 years when there's still no "Apple Car" released. I highly doubt they're going to start producing cars. Huge waste of money and capital, unproven success brand for Apple (they haven't even had the balls to jump into television screens, yet we're so sure they're going into automobiles?).

They've hired Lexus and other car company designers and engineers to be part of their industrial design group for previous products, I don't see why that can no longer be the case?

Regardless, these comments just prove that (unsurprisingly) most people here are just fan boys who will defend Apple for doing anything. And attack whoever is against them -- even for a company as respected, inspirational, innovative and game-changing as TESLA for crying out loud.

People on this forum are far too biased. You can criticize Apple while still being a huge fan of the company. People shouldn't act "surprised" when comments like this are made after a CEO's company has been poached.

Not really a great comparison. The Model S was ahead of its time when it was first released in 2012 and frankly still is. The watch was received with a lot of "meh" until it can function independent from the phone.
And the Model S was received with a lot of, "Yeah, it's impressive, but overpriced for the benefits it offers." When Tesla can figure out how to do this at a price comperable to other cars, then I might seriously consider buying one. That's going to be the Model 3.

Comparing a car with a watch...
In this case both have the battery technology, touch screens, some electric motors and all in different proportions and functionality.
Price wise there is huge difference, and when comparing them if I had the funds I will buy a Tesla car before any Apple Watch.
It wasn't my attention to decry the huge size of the Tesla compared to the Apple Watch, so if you read that into my analogy, you grasped the wrong end of the stick.

I was just saying that ordinary people who are shopping for a new car won't consider Tesla until the Model 3 puts it into the price range that ordinary people might want to spend. Those who could afford the Model S or Model X are paving the way (and they are not regretting their role in doing so). Musk is claiming the Apple Watch won't be ready for prime time until the third version. Meanwhile those of us who bought the first one, and those who buy the second are enjoying it for what it does while Apple incrementally adds more functionality and better performance.

So why aren't people complaining about Jobs' reaction to Google poaching Apple employees a while back before both companies put safeguards in place to prevent that?
Maybe because Jobs has been dead for four years, and Musk's comments are current events. In a couple of weeks, hardly anyone will be talking about Musk's comments, either. It will fade into the background unless something dredges it up the way you dredged up the reaction of the late Steve Jobs.

His face. It's something about his face. It's very punchable. And the fact he acts like a douche further adds to that.

Good thing he backtracked. It seems to be a trend now.
Maybe its a little petty to poke fun at the watch, but the dude is sticking up for his company which doesn't have the talent buying power Apple does.. You dont even know the man so calling him a douche sounds pretty immature and douchey itself #applekoolaid

Is this the going trend these days ? Make a nasty statement and then backtrack the very next day ?

Sorkin..Musk... I wonder who is next in Line :D

That would be me...! :D

I agree with Musk: the iWatch is sort of "ok", but it's not nearly great. Sales figures and a short lived hype are clear evidence of that.

And seriously... all he did was to speak his mind through a very mild, on-point critique. Is that all it takes to enrage some MacRumors members for making "a nasty statement" ? Is this the going trend these days ??? :p
You should hear my uncensored opinions on the iWatch... now, those are really nasty!!!

My guess is he backtracked just to end the commotion with the Apple fan base, and keep focusing on doing amazing things with his time... god knows they can be quite impressionable....

All the Apple fanboys raising the flag.. What about when Jobs would spout off his mouth?

Exactly.

Cheers!

I do not know why all are so upset. Elon is very much like Steve. He is a true visionary, very creative and a man before his time. Steve said many things critical of other companies such as Microsoft, Google after they started with Android. I love the Tesla. It is a beautiful design but the dash design is horrible does not even look like it should be in the car. Ive often thought the two companies should merge. What Steve could do that Tim cannot is get on a stage and sell the concept and or design. Elon knows how to do that just like Steve did.

Elon Musk will be the closest thing we ever see to a Tony Stark

For most people, Tony Stark is a fantasy character, not a role model.

Yes, but when Google was poaching Apple employees and Jobs declared thermonuclear war against Google, Apple fans were attacking Google. Doesn't make sense to attack Musk for this. He is the basically the Jobs' of his own company (companies, actually - like PayPay, Spacex, etc.) - similar to how Steve headed Apple, and Pixar, NeXT etc.. So he has the right to make these sorts of comments, in my opinion. Steve would have said 10 times worse. And that's okay - it shows he cares a ****load about his company. Everyone in the thread acting surprised making comments like "Wow Musk has no class or poise " are delusional at best. It's war out there. Apple isn't going to poach a top notch innovation house like Tesla and get away scott-free. Just not going to happen. I respect both companies, but at the end of the day, I think what Elon Musk is doing as a person is more impressive than what Apple is doing as a company (keep in mind that doesn't mean what Jobs did a person).

People who are attacking Elon Musk like he's some disposable "nobody" are so beyond the point return from Apple fanboyism. Can't even give credit and respect where it's due. Disgusting.

Let's be honest here, Tesla is what Apple used to be. Apple has lost a lot of the excitement in recent years. Of course, they changed the world with the introduction of the iPhone and iPad but everything since then has been and upgrade of previous products. Im not even counting the Apple watch. Im still waiting for a half decent app to use on it. It might've made smartwatches more mainstream, but thats about it.

Tesla on the other hand is a company that has people excited. The lust factor i for their cars is more than any iPhone launch could ever be. The thought of a not too distant future with electric, self driving cars has me drooling from my balls. The iPhone 7? Not so much.

Musk can come back and talk once he's made an actual profit on something instead of simply benefitting from government subsidies to keep his companies afloat.

Can you explain which subsidies Tesla is receiving in comparison to other manufacturers?

Hmm...I'm not so sure about that. I think there's this little bubble where techies assume everyone is excited about the same things they're excited about. It's just like the NY/DC media bubble where you have journalists who think the average citizen cares about the inside baseball stuff they talk about at cocktail parties. I can tell you where I live in middle America the topic of conversation is not Tesla. Of course I have no doubt in Silicon Valley and cities were rich hipsters live Tesla is discussed frequently.

I don't see the problem- Tesla fanboys are "raising the flag" in response. They're holding Elon Musk up as some sort of God while they do so... I fail to see how that is any different from the way some people around here worship Jobs.

Oh really? I guess thats why the thought police on his twitter account were totally not demanding an apology. Or thinking out loud on the blogosphere. I would be interested in your definition of an "online-lynchmob". Oh wait, no I wouldnt.
If the so-called "thought police" has any authority over what he is allowed to say or cannot say, I would be deeply concerned. But they don't. It's the internet. People say dumb things all the time, and you can't let them get to you.
