I'm sorry, but Elon Musk really comes across as a self-centred egoistic person. I'd rather work for Tim or Jony any day.

However...

... "most analysts recognize that by the early age of 42, Elon Musk stood uncontested as this century's Greatest Visionary Leader, surpassing old figures such as Bill Gates, Sergey Brin and Steve Jobs in terms of strategic reach and global impact of his endeavors."

In any case, Elon Musk has earned the right to voice his opinion... don't you think?

... and freaking out in 3...2...1... Cheers! :D

He probably thought "Ah, it's a German newspaper. Who's gonna read it oversea's?".
I think there's a reason the Apple-brass almost never goes on record to single out a specific company/competitor in public.
I assume Silicon Valley is a small world - and your worst enemy and competitor might be your business-partner (or your employer, by way of acquisition) next year. Why burn any bridges?
Also, the employees in question (I can't believe they're all idiots - he hired them himself in the first place!) might want to return at some point. Is it really so wise to give them a (virtual) kick in their back like this?
Again: why burn any bridges?
That's so.... immature.

- Didn't he create a car with his company based on his billions ?
- Doesn't Apple have so many more billions?

If a company as rich as Apple decides to build a car and they put enough resources aka money behind it - then they build a car.

Yes, because electric cars and rockets are revolutionary concepts.

Automobiles and rockets have a long history, dating back to 1863 and the 16th century (or 13th century China if you like), respectively. Electric cars go back to 1900 (Lohner-Porsche). Everything that happened to them in recent memory has been evolutionary.

PS: To put the Tesla into perspective, the 1900 Lohner-Porsche "Semper Vivus" had a 410kg battery, a top speed of 50km/h and could travel 50km on a single charge. Seems like we haven't made it very far in 115 years at all, compared to other fields of engineering.

Funny thing is he's right about the Apple Watch (regardless of context).

Meh, who cares. He's right about the Apple Watch anyways.

Musk is right on regarding the watch.

Ok, enough about the Apple Watch, already. I like my Apple Watch, and yes, just like every other first-gen new-category Apple product (iPod, iPhone, iPad) the next gen will be better. Duh! The only difference is the Apple Watch, in it's first quarter, had higher (projected) sales than the iPhone and iPod, almost matching the iPad which had a few extra weeks in its first quarter sales. This, given limited distribution channels. Now that channels are opening up...

So the Apple Watch is arguably tied as the most successful 1st generation product launch in Apple history. It could prove to be the most successful. Tim is happy with the numbers for a reason.

Hate it if you want, just like so many of the members of this forum hated the original iPod, iPhone and iPad, but the Apple Watch is here to stay. As a friend here in Canada said to me when showing me his coveted 1st gen iPhone "See how cool this is; now imagine, this is version 1.0".

Probably the greatest predictor of an Apple products future success is how badly it is trashed by the more prolific posters on MacRumors. Oh, don't worry, I know, THIS TIME you are right.

Apple is the best tech company in the world and they make the best personal electronic products in the world. If Elon Musk says they Joke that Apple is the Engineer's graveyard, it's probably something they actually have said.

I can imagine they have let many engineers go and those same engineers probably have found a place with project Titan...are there any other tech companies developing an actual car? (google is developing software to enable cars to self-drive, not an actual vehicle).

I don't think he meant it to slight Apple, it's more a word about the quality of people Apple may be hiring without actually knowing what type of people they are getting for their car project.

These engineers have Tesla on their resume and Apple may see them as an asset, but they may not be engineers that could take the pressure at Tesla.

Not hard to reconcile the things Elon has said about Apple, even the so called back tracking.

It's more like clarifying.

The engineers Tesla has hired to develop their cars are incredible. To produce the vehicles far faster, & safer with the range and the infrastructure that they have is a testament to the people who are with the company.

Just like Steve Jobs and now, Tim Cook has had to have many people fired over the years, Tesla has done the same.

These people who get fired don't disappear, they get hired by others and maybe have learned from their mistakes but the fact remains, they were fired for a reason.

What is most surprising is that so many people defend Musk over Tim now on this Forum (and count me one of them). Over the last 4-5 years, I think we have seen Android devices flourish, a different and exciting Microsoft, and a weaker Apple.

While I think the Apple Watch will be great and I'm excited to buy one eventually, I don't think it's the game changer that Tim claims it if (yet). Heck, if he believes it himself Apple is in more trouble then we think.

Someone asked me where I think Tim should go, and I think he should go back to supply chain management. He is no Nardella, Musk, or Jobs.

Is anyone else getting tired of the same, unending routine? It goes something like this:

  1. Apple enters an existing market.
  2. Executives of companies in market downplay Apple's participation, often resorting to petty insults.
  3. Apple very quickly becomes a disruptor and leader in the existing market.
  4. Executives in step #2 look end up looking bitter, defensive, childish.

You would think someone as intelligent as Musk would want to avoid steps 2 and 4, but I guess not.

Elon Musk must have been visited by Apple thugs and forced him to backtrack his wording.. There were probably 5 guys from Apple ready to beat him up.......

What are you talking about? First of all the Apple Watch has outsold it's nearest competitor by at least 5x, and that's as a FIRST GENERATION PRODUCT. Only on these forums can something like that not be considered a success or a game changer.

Second, the value of Apple has risen in multiples since Tim Cook has taken over. In fact under his watch (no pun intended) the company is more valuable than it's ever been. Each of his product releases face massive sales expectations, and they exceed those expectations every time. If that doesn't make him, arguably, the best CEO alive today then you have to seriously re-evaluate your criteria.

Hopefully you will forgive my paraphrasing:

Your original posting was more to the topic but I just had to add.
