The point he is trying to make is actually identifying where the line is drawn when interpreting speech. Policing speech accurately and fairly is no simple matter. You do understand that’s the point right?
That wasn't clear, but yes I agree. It isn't easy, but reinstating people who promote hate speech, promoting conspiracy theories, and trolling people with a liberal ideology doesn't seem to be helping the situation or headed in the right direction. I can completely understand why a company like Apple does not have confidence in the Leadership at Twitter right now. There is no plan, just random ramblings and decisions on the fly by an unhinged individual.

This is 100% the truth. Not sure why people are downvoting his comment. You're either in denial or outright delusional if you don't think this is true.

Extremists don’t see themselves as extreme. They see everyone else as not extreme enough. Nothing more dangerous than a person who believes blindly that they have justice on their side.

Worth noting that if Apple were to ban Twitter from the App Store, it would 100% need to ban Reddit also. Both of them have “questionable” content.

Before Apple imposes its ban, they may need to check with the ChiComs on additional bans on the to be banned list. Follow orders.

Elon is continuing to blow the whistle and more is coming:

Again, the questions say nothing about suppressing content. You're just making that up. If I say rainbows are more important to me than unicorns, it doesn't mean I want to suppress unicorns. Unicorns could be the second most important thing in the world to me.
The surveyed people were given a binary option between valuing people saying things freely, or valuing people saying things that is nice.

There was no 3rd choice. If they explicitly pick one over the other, what possibly do you think it implies.

Holy hell, the vote reveals if people value A over B. The act of suppression represents exactly a tradeoff of A (free expression) vs B (undesirable expression).

Your hypothetical that you voted rainbows are more important than unicorns….if one had to be eradicated from earth, your choice suddenly would be unicorns?

100%. Reddit is worse honestly. But that isn't garnering headlines and Twitter has celebrities and politicians up in arms so the "Social Justice Warrior" thing to do right now is to stop doing business with Twitter.
How skewed does your worldview have to be to equate not giving ad dollars to a platform that gives voice to hate speech with “SJW things”? Twitter and Musk are not entitled to anyone’s money. Not to mention voting with one’s wallet has always been a thing.

You keep making claims that you fail to backup. This is not a mainstream view in any way. This whole thing wouldn’t even be a problem in the first place if the same folks claiming they don’t support hate speech weren’t also frequently the same folks spouting transphobic rhetoric.

Even with that there are nuances though. You have a group of people who think that a man is a man and a woman is a woman, period. According to many on Twitter that is hate speech, when it's really just someone's opinion.

I believe that a person can be whatever they want to be as long as they are decent human being. A man can be a woman and a woman can be a man in my opinion. It doesn't' matter to me. But Twitter straddles a line of "You must believe what I believe or you are spreading hate" in regards to transgender people, which I don't personally agree with. If someone considers a transgender woman still a man, that is there opinion. I don't think its hateful, its just their opinion on gender which there are many conflicting arguments on.

Where I think the line is drawn is with racism. There is no space for it and anyone expressing a racist opinion should be booted off.

You realize that "opinions" like that literally just killed five people, yes?

Whoa, we aren't talking about ad dollars, we are talking about Apple kicking Twitter off the app store so slow your roll. The point the person was making that if they want to get rid of twitter for giving way to hate speech than they woulid have to get rid of Reddit which also does the exact same thing but cranked up to 1000. Thank you for the attempt at a personal attack though, maybe next time.

Its not my opinion, I said people have that opinion. And I would assume you have facts backing that claim up that 5 people were literally just killed because I said someone has that opinion?

"who promote hate speech, promoting conspiracy theories..." So much rubbish speech, so little time.

Who was it that worked to censor discussion about the Wuhan ChiCom virus coming out of a lab and used government-corporate business ties to silence discussion here in the US?

They tried both the "hate speech" and "conspiracy theories" angle to suppress the truth.

Turns out Dr. Fallacy among others was involved in that little suppression activity.

Odious views? Oh, you must mean this development which didn't make the MR story:

"The Twitter Files on free speech suppression soon to be published on Twitter itself. The public deserves to know what really happened …" - Elon Musk.

No worries, it's just a little free speech revelations coming out which TC/Apple want to stop.
Let him release the files, I literally do not care. Neither individuals nor companies are under any obligation to give someone else a platform. If nobody wants to give you a platform, go make your own. You're allowed, I promise.

As a non-American I continue to find it utterly disturbing how much Americans - and some others - value their "free speech" to mean including hate speech. Like really, how can all of you be so proud that you can spread hate speech because "freedom of speech"?!?

Y'all really do get way too hung up on that "free" part. Just because you can doesn't mean you should, ya know? But since history repeatedly showed where this leads to... yeah, no, maybe you just can't handle that responsibility.

Hate speech is nothing to be proud of and if you don't recognize hate speech as what it is, you're part of the problem.

1. "build your own twitter"
2. parler is built
3. apple pulls parler off app store
4. elon buys twitter
5. apple threatens to pull twitter off app store

anyone can make their own but can be easily pull if it doesn't fit their agendas/narratives. this is sad.

That club shooting was a terrible tragedy and may those people rest in peace. But making it political without any facts spits on their grave. You don't know the motive of the killer, none of us do. And the fact they are non-binary could point to it being less of a hate crime than it was originally assumed to be.

I also don't see why you brought this into a discussion on Elon and Twitter in the first place.

They decided the word "literally" now means "figuratively" at some point.

Geez, so stating on an Apple website that people have an opinion on something is now "LITERALLY" causing physical harm to random people somewhere in the world. Makes sense. What's more disturbing to me as that I clearly said it wasn't my opinion but stating that others have that well documented opinion provokes an attack.

You either side with them 100% on everything or you're LITERALLY a racist, homophobic nazi.

@DMG35: I said "Opinions like that". Not "your opinion".

And you guys clearly don't realize that echo chambers do exist and are very potent. Which is quite ironic, considering you (third person you) are accusing "them damn liberals" of doing exactly that.

For what it's worth, and not that any of you actually care, but *human rights* (nor (scientific) *facts*, btw) are not up to have *opinions* about. Simple as that.
