Free speech shouldn't be a left vs right thing. The left used to be the ones who defended free speech, back in the day.

But just because someone can do something, doesn't mean they should. Maybe Apple can remove Twitter and legally defend it, but they can't morally defend it. And you've made no attempt to morally defend it.

I'm not some American right wing ultra capitalist - I've voted left all my life, but free speech is paramount to a society that isn't hell to live in, and Apple would be on the wrong side of history for doing this. If they were actually doing it - there is no evidence so far really.
The left is still the ones defending free speech. The right is still the ones banning books.

And what does calling it that get you? Cookies? What's wrong with calling it what is really is?

Again, people that want to define it as a public space are just interested in forcing a private company to publish speech that they don't want to publish.

You have a problem with me calling Twitter a de facto public square (which it is). Why? You don't like people saying things that are true?

I know you don't really believe this. Be honest with yourself so you can then be honest with others.

Again, I'm not American, but I suppose you would be referring to books being removed from certain curriculums for young children in schools. Most books, believe it or not, are not actually in the curriculum for young children in schools. In fact almost every book that was ever published will never end up in a curriculum for young children in schools. Are those books banned as well?

Can the general public access those books still? Yes.

What's it like living in a context-free zone?

No, I'm not referring to books chosen to be in the curriculum. I'm referring to books being banned from libraries.

Their decision would have nothing to do with how they feel about Musk. Their decision would be based on the fact that the Twitter platform is used to spread hate speech and lies. Trust me, Apple and Google don't give a damn about Elon Musk the man. They care about the apps which they give permission to operate on their iOS and android platforms and will protect the image of those platforms at all costs.
Twitter has had a huge child porn problem, which Musk has been working on getting rid of. Crickets from Apple this whole time. I guess they were fine with exploited children being on the platform but “hate speech” (which is an arbitrary term and can mean anything) not okay.

The ACLU Skokie case you cite involves the government, which is why it is (correctly) protected by free speech.

But that has NOTHING to do with what we're talking about here, because FREE SPEECH DOES NOT APPLY TO PRIVATE PROPERTY.
As a tangent, here's what ACLU says about Twitter and Trump.

Keep in mind tons of people are reflexively anti-Twitter/Elon because of fears Trump might return.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more steadfast opponent of Trump and his policies than the ACLU, but Elon Musk’s decision to re-platform President Trump is the right call. When a handful of individuals possess so much power over the most important forums for political speech, they should exercise that power with restraint. If Trump violates the platform rules again, Twitter should first employ lesser penalties like removing the offending post — rather than banning a political figure.

Like it or not, President Trump is one of the most important political figures in this country, and the public has a strong interest in hearing his speech. Indeed, some of Trump’s most offensive tweets ended up being critical evidence in lawsuits filed against him and his administration. And we should know — we filed over 400 legal actions against him.

Also Apple hasn't threatened to de-platform Balenciaga.

Why do people keep making up Apple's reasons for allegedly threatening to remove Twitter? Neither Musk nor Apple said that this was about "hate speech".

So glad Elon is opening Twitter back up. Apple should just calm down: they lose absolutely nothing with the changes at Twitter. Apple's just clutching their pearls afraid that people might say things they don't like. The horror.

Going so far as to pull Twitter from the App Store kinda says that Apple is more worried about what the CCP might do than anything the plebes might post on their feed.

To all talking about people in far right and left, Musk, Apple and all ... well usually people on far left suffer from victim complex ... the far right from entitlement complex. The world will never be good enough to fill either emotional holes ... there will be always someone to be put down for either reasons.

Funny enough with fortune or misfortune often minds tend to move towards one point or the other in their life time.
