We will see Twitter slowly collapse as Elon re-learns the lessons social media sites learned in the last 15 years. I eagerly await the news of seeing advertisers pull out and the massive interest payments over 1B$/year now with the rising interest rates. If he successfully kills off Twitter, he would actually be doing humanity a great service. It would probably be his biggest accomplishment yet. I don't know why he would want to spend $44 mil to do that though.
As for me, I enjoyed it much more once it became more heavily moderated last year, and now the Musk will likely reverse that, I will just spend my time doing other things. Let the thing become Parler or Truth Social.

A lot of users there are a bit braindead and think emotionally only. There were many arguments in Twitter regarding BTS serving military time in Korea, and I was attacked many times for simply saying that they didn’t meet any laws for military exemption. In other words logic doesn’t really work with them
The ideology of it is the insistence that all decisions and world view is filtered through a lens where injustice is happening everywhere and there are fighters against it and then everyone else, who is generally thought to be guilty due to their inaction.

I think Twitter needs a massive purge; racism is abhorrent and those who perpetrate it should be removed, pure and simple.
With that being said, the aforementioned purge should be apolitical in nature. Those who think Twitter was in any way apolitical to being with, OR think that the site was even-handed in addressing racism, are fooling themselves.

Congrats to Elon but man this is a tough pill to swallow. Too much stress.
It's a sad world that we live in. We're embedded in a capitalistic system in which a trajectory is rule by oligarchy. Essentially, this rule by oligarchy is a fondness for rule by authoritarianism.
So much for democracy and for the public! I say this because so many do not seem to understand how much their lives are run by oligarchs and various flavors of authoritarianism. A former colleague used to tell me that capitalism is the best system. I just stared at her blankly. Wow...what lack of imagination. Capitalism. THAT'S what we ultimately want? Because one of its trajectory is the ever empowering of the few and disempowering of the many.

Well, my take from reading posts in this thread is that some here are happy to see the destructive expression of racism, misogyny, prejudice, pseudoscientific lies, and political extremism under the guise of 'free speech' and the First Amendment (which, by the way, does not apply to the actions of companies, since the amendment is focused solely on actions Congress is prohibited from taking. Some of you need to actually read the amendment sometime.)

Actually, the best thing Musk can do is kill it. Call it a $45B contribution to humanity. He'll still be the richest guy in the world, and killing it would qualify him for sainthood.
Twitter represents a relatively small percentage of Americans who are active users, but we (most notably too many of our politicians and institutional leaders) have allowed their outsized influence to tear this country apart. If the platform is going to survive it needs to be completely re-engineered. Musk has the brains and drive to make it happen.

You mean the way it’s been weaponzied as a PR machine for folks with questionable agendas…?? What social media platform doesn’t have that chance. Look at what Mark Zuckerberg admitted FB was doing during the last election.
Twitter was invented because masturbating in public is illegal. It's not for communication or conversation, it's for shouting into the void and thinking your voice is more important than anyone else, it's narcissism personified. Ergo, why people like Musk and Trump like it, it feeds their ego and need to jerk it in public and, sadly, they have so many people who can't spot grifters they'll line up for facials.
I also notice the extreme desire of the left to create a left bubble. I often saw posts like "If you support ..., please unfollow me!". There even have been apps that allowed people who in their friend list followed some "extremists" like Trump. With a click you could unfriend all those people. So if you followed someone like Trump, you were already seen as an extremist yourself.
Doesn't it make sense to follow many people with a different opinion? If someone has the same opinion as me, why should I follow him? I already know my opinion. I want to know what people from the "other side" think.
In Germany a popular lawyer got attacked from the left for defending some right wing people. The same lawyer also had left wing clients. He said that everybody should have the right to get the best defence he can afford and that he will accept ANY client, because everybody is innocent until proven guilty. The left however really think that no lawyer should have any right wing clients and if you accept a right wing client, you are an extremist yourself.
Long ago I decided not to choose my friends based on political opinions and I will never end a friendship based on the political opinion of a friend. Sadly people from the left do that differently. If you do not share their opinion, your are the enemy. I therefore also like the word "leftists" for those people, as they remind me very much of islamists.

If you do a boycott and want others to do the same, you basically want to destroy the income of a person, so that he can no longer make a living from his job. There is no recognized definition of hate speech so sentence two is not entirely correct. Not all speech is protected from governmental reprisal. That has been established by SCOTUS.
No one on Twitter has First Amendment protection from Twitter because it does not apply.
What got Parler in trouble was not moderating out users who were using the platform to coordinate and plan crimes like the Jan 6 riot. It seems like Elon is going to moderate to some extent but we will not know what the moderation will look like under Elon Muck for a couple of years while he implements changes within the company.
It’s just like Reddit, primarily an echo chamber for far left imo. I posted real truths etc, instant perma ban, yet those cesspool groups talking how to defraud the government to get unemployment antiwork etc alive and well.
