I understand and respect your experience. Not EVERY executive in the world has one. But as a C-level executive with over 25 years experience in the tech industry and having used the platform to network and “communicate” with other C-level executives I can tell you that your experience is in the minority.

Some executives have staff that manage their LinkedIn like any other social media. Absolutely. But it does not mean all of them do. Anyway I’m not advocating for the platform. It’s taken a large nose dive from what it once was. But like I said. It’s a necessary evil. Just like Twitter and many other social mediums.
As you know, technology is always changing. LinkedIn is already on its way out and there will be another app/site within the next 5-10 years that will revolutionize the way we network across business.

I just like to be ahead of the change in technology. :D

He made the right move. There is really no American (or Western, for that matter) alternative to TikTok right now and TikTok is poised to subvert Western dominance in the content-sharing space. It's also one of the biggest sources of misinformation, thus a threat to our democracy.

Elon Musk is putting money where his mouth is. He should be applauded.

I actually miss Periscope. It was interesting to see different people live streaming all over the world including at protests where the unexpected could happen at anytime.

Yeah that was pretty cool.

The big problem for Periscope, however, was that their whole thing was live-streaming video.

But soon every other platform added live-streaming video... Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, etc... thus making Periscope redundant.

Live-streaming is a feature... not a product. And features like that are relatively easy to implement.

It reminds me of how SnapChat introduced "stories" but nearly every platform now has some sort of stories functionality.

As for Vine... can Twitter successfully reboot the "six-second looping video" concept in 2022? I dunno... there's even more competition today than there was when Twitter shut it down in 2017.

Elon Musk has asked Twitter engineers to begin work on an updated version of Vine that could launch before the end of the year, reports Axios. Musk yesterday tweeted a poll asking if he should "bring back Vine," and 69.5 percent of four million respondents said yes.

Twitter acquired video app Vine back in 2012, which was pre-TikTok and back when Vine was popular. The app slowly stopped being used, and Twitter ended up shutting it down in 2016. Vine was designed to let users capture and share six-second looping video clips.

A rebooted version of Vine could compete with popular video app TikTok. Twitter engineers have been told to examine the Vine code base, which has not been changed since it was shut down. One source told Axios that it "needs a lot of work."

Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter on Friday, instating himself as CEO and firing multiple top executives including prior CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and policy lead Vijaya Gadde, among others. Musk also got rid of the board of directors, and is now Twitter's sole director.

There have been multiple rumors about Musk's plans for Twitter since the takeover, and it has been suggested that he is going to make significant cuts to Twitter's workforce. This morning, rumors indicated that Musk plans to charge $20 per month for a verified account, which has yet to be confirmed.

I could not care less. I disavowed Twitter years ago and firmly believe that Musk will use it irresponsibly.

I have a feeling the delay was just to buy time. He wouldn’t have made a legitimate offer without knowing the repercussions of backing out. He had to have seen a return on the investment.

I assume you meant “fired” and not “hired”. He fired the execs because they were incompetent and were destroying the platform. There was no significant attempt to leverage the prevalence and brand recognition of Twitter.
Well, he was backing out and Elon had a legit reason. Wanted to back off due to the concern about the bots. It also seems like he took a hefty amount of loan. Not all the cash came from his back account. So now he has no choice left but to generate money for the investors. For months after months, he was messing around, until Twitter slapped him with a lawsuit action.

Sorry for the typo error. I meant to say "fired". Thanks for catching that. You will probably see those exec’s working either at Apple, Facebook, or Google.

And yet, here we both are using the internet on a rumors site, voting on posts and viewing ads… 😂
Easy fix. Sign up for a MacRumors Contributor account and say Good Bye to the ads forever 👋. As far as the votes go… they tend to mean something 🤪

Vine?

Even when it was a thing, I didn't know anyone that wanted to admit they used it. Kind of like when I was paying for Hotmail, but I also got like three accounts and they didn't time out, so for the money, I made out pretty well, but people sure liked to roast people that did.

But Vine? Couldn't he pick something 'newer' to bring back? Doesn't matter I guess because it will all turn to crap sooner or later.
