Elon Musk's car prices are higher then they should be too. I think he should sell his cars for cost. LITERALLY.

Clearly, businesses should not be allowed to make profits on the goods and services they provide. Obviously it cost nothing to produce an SDK, host the App Store, support the customers.

But you know what really is infinitely more expensive than it should be? Tesla's Full Self Driving feature. Selling a non-existent feature for $10K (or is it $12K now?) should be criminal. At least the App Store existed before Apple tried to make money on it.
It’s people like you who make me sick with your ignorant comments. They wouldn’t have survived if they did that?! LOL omfg. IQ of a monkey.

Hmmm unlike most people who seem to have allergic reaction to this statement, I think that Elon can say whatever he wants and that's OK. It's his viewpoint.

I hope someone pointed out to him that Google and Microsoft also take 30%?
Exactly - why is no one pointing fingers at Google and only at Apple for the exact same platform fees. In fact Apple cut some of the fees and Google followed. Am I missing something?

Mm perhaps he will? But Apple is more trendy and has the image of being more developer friendly and appreciating

Is your what about ism a concession that his point is valid BUT should be extended to others? Sounds like a confession.

Compared to the competition, the Tesla model 3 is extremely well priced. If, like me, you need to travel long highway distances, the Model 3 Long Range is about half the price of the equivalent Audi.

If you only need an EV for around town there’s lots of options. But for long range travel the Tesla is by far the best value already.

I just wish it had CarPlay

I agree 30% is too high for essentially a VAT. 15% would be more reasonable across the board. Other companies only charge 30% because Apple established that benchmark through its monopoly.

I am no expert on the amount to be charged. The post targets Apple specifically when Android is the largest used Mobile OS and charges the same. So it gives the feeling that there is a hidden agenda and not what what appears to be on the surface.

Or 30 percent is a lot for a middle man.

That can be an opinion without any other considerations of brand loyalty or opinion of person with that opinion. Wouldn’t be outlandish. That’s nearly a third of a developers revenue.

I’m surprised that Apple and Google are able to get developers to develop software for their platforms with a 30% cut off the top of each sale. It isn’t like retail where they get a 50% cut off the MSRP from the wholesaler or manufacturer because a retailer buys in bulk from a wholesaler and is purchasing a hundred or thousand units at a time.

You must not know much about Nordstrom and other retailers. They lease space to vendors at exorbitant prices. Example, any brand in cosmetics flooring a counter must pay > $1 million, per quarter, per store to house their cosmetics. And those prices vary in the market. Back in 2000 Orlando my ex was the manager of cosmetics before later being the store manager. Back then it was > $500k.

“likening it to a "30% tax on the internet."

What the hell does Elon Musk know about paying taxes?

He is right in that 30% is too high. I wish Apple would have lowered it years ago.
However he should be focusing on Tesla's FSD. That should be 1/10 the price and actually provide the features it originally supposed to do and hasn't for the past 5+ years.

BTW - I own Apple and Tesla products and quite a bit of APPL and TSLA stock.

claiming Tesla Super chargers work with with Non-Tesla cars is totally false
Elon Musk's philosophy - Do as I say not as I do

All Tesla models have price increase from 15-25% just in the past year for the exact same car. Now the car doesn't even come with charger. Where's my FSD that I paid $10k for? Simmer down, Musk.

Maybe Elon doesn‘t recall how software distribution worked BEFORE the Apple Store: we (typically) had to go through distributors that took more that 30%. By the time the software was stocked on the shelf at your local computer store, it was also marked up. And any time the retailer or distributor wanted to return hundreds (or thousands) of copies to ”stock balance” — or for any reason — they could. Except they often didn’t actually return them — they DESTROYED them (so they said).

That's not "before the Apple Store" -- that's "before the Internet"

Apple's "App Store" isn't doing much beyond stealing an unjustifiably large cut from developers

1) Why did my "affordable" Model 3 cost more than 50k, and 2) where is CarPlay on the miserable walled Tesla screen?

Rich people have so much fun playing around with the masses.

Why did you buy it / who forced you to?

And how did you not know it didn’t have it (carplay)? Didn’t you do like 5 min of research

It is literally the same as other stores and less than the cut that used to be taken in the physical distribution days.

Does he not have to head to Springfield to sell them a monorail?

Elon, I totally agree with the Apple Tax being 10x higher than it should be. But your car's software is a walled garden. And your charging network is a walled garden. Practice what you preach, you control freak.

Interesting observation/ somewhat fair point

But at the same time, What are the impacts of Sideloading an app on iOS vs installing an app on macOS outside of App Store

…vs Sideloading self driving apps / tweaks etc

Not really comparable as for what’s at stake (imo)

He's tanking the stock. If his argument catches fire, he'll buy stock when the price drops. Just watch. He does this often.

He can’t stop lying and abusing.

It’s time to end billionaires and the power they abuse.

Nobody needs to have a billion dollars.

They should be forced to sell assets and pay taxes whenever they hit a $100 million wall.

Even $100 million is mad money and makes the ultra wealthy abusive, dishonest and very corrupt.
How much do you propose he pay in taxes?
