That’s why Apple is creating a layer of isolation between the user and their servers to keep your information private. He’s actually not being dramatic in my opinion. It’s no secret that openAI markets one thing, but behind closed doors does another. Multiple times employees have come forward to express their concern over their practices.
Yep, what a billionaire loser with multiple companies and his own satellite constellation and reusable rockets. 🙄What a loser
My concern is the immensity of material they used to train it without authorial consent. Apple partnering with them kind of glosses over that. Feels very neo-liberal, status-quo, “let the colonized territories remain under current ownership no matter the legitimacy of claim.”The issue is OpenAI will use your anonymous data you send it to create updated models that copies your work.
You better make sure nothing you send it contains any original thoughts or ideas or creations, otherwise OpenAI will just use it to train your competitors.
It's a huge Intellectual Property violator.
With OpenAI’s reputation and Apples reputation, don’t you think that the Apple lawyers would have covered exactly that scenario? They have already said that OpenAI will not be able to retain any of your information.Would Apple's contract with OpenAI prevent them from using your anonymously sent data to train new models, thus copying your ideas and intellectual property?
THAT is the core problem with OpenAI and Sam Altman. They don't believe you have intellectual property rights. They consider all ideas you have to be their ideas for copying.
Training the full network isn't instant, but training some parts of the network can be. At the very least tokenization and embeddings are instant transforms, and who know what other layers are trained. Transformer models have a lot of independent steps. This is also a very active research area, to speed up training and inference as well. You have to log it to disk first. Training is not some real-time, in-memory process.
And the format in which it is logged is irrelevant. Apple says it is not happening.
I like their direction of treating that higher-level intelligence access as a new search, with an eye to users in the future being able to select the AI they prefer for queries that are beyond on-device capabilities. That’s why Apple is creating a layer of isolation between the user and their servers to keep your information private.
It would be interesting to learn more about it. In the end, this may be a temporary arrangement until Apple is ready to deploy their own AI Servers and separate from the 3rd parties.
CatGPT is not integrated into the OS. It is an external service meant to handle some specific types of queries and you can choose to use it or not. It essentially replaces the feature where Siri would say “Here is what I found on the web”.He's a shitgibbon, but I get the reaction. I too, do not love this and I really hope it can be entirely disabled. I like ChatGPT and have used it, it's cool, but integrated into the OS? hell no. Or whatever AI Google is ******** out? Extra nope.
There's a 100% chance they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar...
Yes. Apple’s AI integration is the right way to do it, focused on privacy and functionality.I like their direction of treating that higher-level intelligence access as a new search, with an eye to users in the future being able to select the AI they prefer for queries that are beyond on-device capabilities.
It’s been almost 2 weeks since Elon’s had a headline and Trump’s sucking up all his oxygen right now. Poor little rich boy needs reassurance that we still remember him. There is zero data supporting Elon’s claims and of course he has a conflict of interest but that’s never stopped him from shooting off on his own social network before.
Elon Musk has threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies over Apple’s newly announced ChatGPT integration.

Apple Intelligence in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia allows Siri to utilize ChatGPT to handle complex queries, but only when explicit user permission is provided. The feature is designed to provide users with richer, more contextual responses without requiring them to open the ChatGPT app.
During Apple's keynote event, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, emphasized that users will have full control over when ChatGPT is used and that data shared with OpenAI would not be logged or stored. "You are in control over when ChatGPT is used and will be asked before any of your information is shared," Federighi said.
Despite these assurances, Musk expressed strong opposition to the integration on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). Musk said, "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation." He continued, "Visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage." He also repeatedly questioned Apple's ability to ensure data security, stating, "Apple has no clue what's actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They're selling you down the river."
Apple and OpenAI have both emphasized that user data will only be shared with explicit consent and that these interactions are designed to be secure. OpenAI noted in a new blog post that "requests are not stored by OpenAI, and users' IP addresses are obscured." Users can also choose to connect their ChatGPT accounts to access paid features, but this is an opt-in feature.
Apple has been clear in its messaging that the new AI capabilities are designed with user privacy at the core. Apple's approach leverages a combination of on-device processing and cloud computing, ensuring that data is not stored in the cloud. Apple's integration of ChatGPT into its operating systems is part of a broader strategy to enhance the AI capabilities of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

If you watch the WWDC Keynote you will that Apple very much does have their own thing. They are running their AI models on device and running their AI models on their Private Cloud Compute platform for larger tasks. It is true that they need to partner with OpenAI to handle some types of requests. It seems mostly the kind of web search answerbot responses that require a system that has crawled large parts of the web for data. It’s similar to using Google for web search and not much more integrated. Each time the Apple AI decides it can’t service the request and needs ChatGPT, it pops up a dialog box asking if you want to send the request to ChatGPT. That is not a tight integration. Are you a new Apple user? ChatGPT is here 100% because Apple doesnt have their own thing yet and they don't want to seem behind. I mean, come on.
Well, Linux exists. But many people prefer to run it on Apple hardwareGuess what a******, Apple doesn't need your companies. Or you. He's going to have to ban Android phones and Microsoft PCs at some point as well, so let's see how your companies like using mobile devices (and one would assume, desktop devices) that don't run iOS or Android, or macOS, or Windows, or ChromeOS.
Bro is over reacting for no reason…
And it’s also an opt in thing.
If I worked at any of his companies, I would start looking for a different job tbh.
As much as I don’t agree with much of what Elon says and does, he is right about one thing. Every bit of your data goes to OpenAI and is there forever, for everyone else to access as well. It’s the exact reason why companies forbid their coders to use AI engines in coding. All the code they upload is available and free for anyone else’s queries to pull down. Not all data is private, but a lot is.
As far as I’m concerned, you are sending your data to Open AI whenever you make use of that iOS 18 feature. He has a point. How can we verify that our data won’t be made accessible to OpenAI? I trust Apple. I don’t trust OpenAI.
Rather than banning iPhones and putting them in Faraday cages, it would be much easier and cheaper for Elon to simply announce that he’s also making his own version iOS with ChatGPT integration.
plenty of elon's promises are qualified by one minor detail which gives him a way out. Elon says "if implemented at the OS level".Dude has lost his marbles. And is full of s*it. I’d bet $10,000 he fails to follow through on this (just like he has with countless other promises and threats).
Like almost every Twitter user, he’s just bored and reacting to the hottest things happening in the news and trying to make it all about him, and getting thousands to @ him and argue with his “hot take”.Dude has lost his marbles. And is full of s*it. I’d bet $10,000 he fails to follow through on this (just like he has with countless other promises and threats).
