Why does it matter if it's an AI bot anyway? Everyone says AI is better than humans. It can process information faster, make more accurate predictions, and handle vast amounts of data effortlessly. With so many convinced that AI is the future, outperforming humans in countless tasks, why worry about whether it's an AI bot or not? The consensus is clear: AI is superior.
You took that strawman and ran as fast as you could with it.

Why ? It's terrible compared to ChatGPT, Anthropic, Mistral etc.

And I wouldn't trust their privacy policy or safety standards at all.
It’s a bit difficult for Musk to throw shade at other companies’ LLMs if he can’t defend his own.

Do you guys know what he's trying to say? Think of the developer code and communications that goes on at Tesla for example, a company which has exceptional technologies that other automakers could only dream of having. I can understand his concern for privacy if his staff have iPhones and its tranmitting data.

Having said that if he just used an MDM for all of his companies then they could block this out of all the staff devices and there isn't even a reason for concern about this.
He’s probably angling to get Grok available.

Elon Musk has threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies over Apple’s newly announced ChatGPT integration.

Apple Intelligence in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia allows Siri to utilize ChatGPT to handle complex queries, but only when explicit user permission is provided. The feature is designed to provide users with richer, more contextual responses without requiring them to open the ChatGPT app.

During Apple's keynote event, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, emphasized that users will have full control over when ChatGPT is used and that data shared with OpenAI would not be logged or stored. "You are in control over when ChatGPT is used and will be asked before any of your information is shared," Federighi said.

Despite these assurances, Musk expressed strong opposition to the integration on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). Musk said, "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation." He continued, "Visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage." He also repeatedly questioned Apple's ability to ensure data security, stating, "Apple has no clue what's actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They're selling you down the river."

Apple and OpenAI have both emphasized that user data will only be shared with explicit consent and that these interactions are designed to be secure. OpenAI noted in a new blog post that "requests are not stored by OpenAI, and users' IP addresses are obscured." Users can also choose to connect their ChatGPT accounts to access paid features, but this is an opt-in feature.

Apple has been clear in its messaging that the new AI capabilities are designed with user privacy at the core. Apple's approach leverages a combination of on-device processing and cloud computing, ensuring that data is not stored in the cloud. Apple's integration of ChatGPT into its operating systems is part of a broader strategy to enhance the AI capabilities of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

I think he has a point.

I am really hoping Apple lets users choose another large language model provider be utilized instead of ChatGPT. I don't trust Sam Altman at all.

I'd rather porn be banned on X.
Why?

Every modern big corp-owned products is boring and dull, precisely because everyone is trying to force politeness on you. Nudes must be censored. iOS keyboard won't suggest you the ducking word. Apps on iPhone are censored, too; like you can't browse half of the channels on Telegram from iOS devices, for example.

There must be places on the internet where at least some fun is allowed. If Twitter is that place, then I'm happy for it.

And happy for all the authors of cool anime porn from Japan, too; they tend to use Twitter to share their art, and it's very convenient to see their art alongside primary feed.

Musk is an idiot, but that was a good move. Now if only he'd ban all the russian bots...

I see your point. It was a bit of a hyperbole, but it underscores the rapid advancements and growing capabilities of AI, which are reshaping our expectations and the future of work.

lmao what a loser

All it takes is his employees not enabling the ChatGPT integration, I know I won’t

Then again his employees probably don’t listen to his sorry ass anymore 😂

I know lots of people will have a gut reaction to Musk's comments. But he is not the only one that will have these concerns. Many CTOs and CIOs will be concerned about how integrated and limited the OpenAI agent is. Many Companies that have Apple devices deployed, will want the ability to just set a boot flag and disable OpenAI's agents completely. Mostly out an abundance of caution. I do believe Apple will make a genuine effort to avoid data leaks, via these LLMs, but no company if perfect. There will be security issues, and attack vectors are all very novel. So traditional data hygiene and security measures most companies have in place won't defend against novel attack using LLMs.

So Elons pissed about an API call, that will most likely be something you can disable this is apple after all. I am not going to buy into this dudes fake outrage till I see it can not be turned off and some one proves it is scraping data. I have to think a company worth more than all of musks empire will not screw up the 1 feature they got going for them. Elon did not learn that lesson when he murdered his supercharger squad.... so who knows maybe it will be an over reach and bring Tim Cook down. I highly doubt it the dudes super chill and as boring as beige paint

What an idiot. This has absolutely nothing to do with “privacy”. Its either a) a publicity stunt, or b) him having a tantrum because they picked openAi instead of his company.

Honest question; What does he really think is going to happen if i walk in with ChatGPT as part of my OS? Im not sure he knows how that all works.

To play devil’s advocate, I’ve had job interviews at places where they had you check your phone in (including serial number) and couldn’t bring it to the desk with you (mind you, this was corporate accounting and was also back in 2011, maybe things have changed since then), and my current work issued laptop is locked down to the point where I don’t have the ability to take screenshots or open the file browser. Clearly, data exfiltration is a big concern for some businesses, and, if you can’t disable these AI features via MDM*, I could see companies taking exception with them. And, with AI tools, OpenAI can promise privacy, but, unless they abstain entirely from using iOS users’ inputs to train ChatGPT, they can’t guarantee that, say, proprietary corporate information doesn’t end up in ChatGPT’s training data.

* I’d be legit surprised if they can’t, since this is clearly the sort of thing businesses that use MDM would take issue with.
