I'm just going by what Mr Gruber reports and he's a well known Apple source/apologist. In that case it seems Apple budged.

says some dude from the internet.

I mean, this is a discussion forum. What else am I to do here other than express my opinion on things? The difference is, comments and sentiment like this kill Musk. He wants to be adored. Want to see him physically hurt? Watch all the people booing and laughing at him at that Dave Chapelle show.

Musk, more than anything, wants to be considered cool and relevant, when he couldn't be further from that.

Only time will tell the true value of the Twitter... sorry... "X" deal.

Remember, Must started as a very poor college kid and made himself the richest man on the planet. He may show signs of narcissism but he is definitely a solid businessman.
Ha yes, the very poor college kid with a daddy who owned half a smaragd mine and was wealthy enough to have a private plane and the biggest house in pretoria who could leave south-africa to avoid his army duty and then left school to found several businesses.

(And before any of his fans try to deny it because Elon has been publicly denying the emerald mine story for the last couple of years, back in 2014 he talked about it himself in a Forbes interview: https://web.archive.org/web/2014090...cret-of-success-hint-it-aint-about-the-money/ )

Musk, despite his peculiarities and extravaganza, did more for advancement of commercial space tech and EV than anyone before him.

That makes him (and not you) "cool and relevant".

Problem is, like all cults of personality, facts don’t matter to the brainwashed.

So Apple should subsidize Elon's poor business model?

Nope, never said Apple should. It's 100% Apple's decision.

But clearly there's a huge market Apple is ignoring simply because the 30% of the total subscription exceeds the fees the content platform charges creators which is why Patreon doesn't even have in-app purchases. Same goes for Wordpress. 30% of the "platform fee" instead of "total revenue" is very logical to me and would probably boost Apple's profits.

Ultimately I think Elon should just band with other app developers to leave the App Store in protest to force Apple's hand. Let the market forces work.

Should we start a poll? I have a feeling more people dislike Elon Musk than me. He isn't cool, he'll never be cool, and there's not much more to say. The dude is a loser, who was broken up with by his wife, for a trans person, and now he's endlessly bitter about it, and it's hilarious to watch him flail around the way that he is, taking a hard turn to the right, hoping that will help him, but it won't.

All that money, and he can't even buy adoration he so desperately craves. I'm far from poor, but I've never had to spend a cent in the hopes that people would like me for it. He can't say the same.

Takes a real tool to spend $44 billion to buy and ruin a social platform millions of people used everyday, then sue a NON-PROFIT for "scaring away advertisers" when they tell the truth about how you invited racists, bigots, and liars back on the platform.

Actually, most tools are helpful. This one is just a self-absorbed fascist-leaning twit.
Actually, the fascist is the person who doesn't believe views and opinions other than theirs should have a place in society.

who has no clue what he's doing...

Hilarious. I'm sure he has no clue what he was doing at Tesla, at SpaceX, at Neuralink, at Boring Company...you know where each company has investors pitching in millions with valuations of upwards of a few billion dollars. 🤣

I feel bad for Elon haters in general since they are in for a terrible time as the world transitions to use at least one of Elon's products. The energy that went directly into people's devices probably was probably stored in a Tesla Megapack (if not, it probably will in the future). The internet people use while on a plane/cruise will probably use SpaceX's Starlink in the near future. People's friends or family that has a neurological disease will probably apply to be a candidate for Neuralink's prototype to restore body function. Then haters will have a choice of sitting on a bus in slow traffic because they refused to take Elon's express tunnel which could have saved them time.

Future looks bleak or bright depending on which side of Elon's companies you're on. I'll choose the bright side because I don't want to wake up every morning living in hate. :)

Asking for a friend… Is this like Brand X putting up a table at Walmart and getting people to sign up on their way in and out of the Walmart, and then not expecting Walmart to take a cut for the traffic they provided? VS people just randomly finding Brand X’s store on the street and Brand X getting the full commission albeit very little traffic?
How is Apple providing traffic to Twitter/X. Who is using Twitter/X because of Apple?

All the people who use 𝕏 on iPhones?
So the reason they signed up for Twitter/X is because they have an iPhone? My guess would be the biggest power users of Twitter/X use the desktop version. This is just based on what I see from those I follow. If the iPhone app went away tomorrow I’d use the web version.

Going by your logic any app in the App Store should be giving Apple a commission.

Another company with ties to Tencent wants Apple to stop being so mean!

Verifiable usage metrics are, in fact, not negated by anecdotes.

I know not everybody on TwiXXer are Nazis and trolls. Not Sure why anyone who isn't is still there, but we don't all have to agree on how we see the world. (Except on Twitter and Truth Social apparently). But I'm hoping Tim Cook laughs in Musk's face. "Pay your rent Jerkface, and pay all the people you laid off what you promised, and then maybe we can sit down and talk." That would be then reasonable thing to say to then Narcissistic man baby.

Twitter or "X" CEO Elon Musk today said that he plans to speak with Apple CEO Tim Cook about lower App Store fees for creators who earn money through subscriptions on the Twitter/X social network.

In a post on creator support, Musk said that he plans to ask Apple to collect 30 percent of the creator fee that Twitter keeps rather than 30 percent of the total fee that a creator on Twitter earns. That would potentially give Apple a much lower cut of the money that Twitter is paying out to creators.

Musk said that Twitter does not plan to collect any fees from creators who earn under $100,000. After the $100k mark, Twitter will collect 10 percent of a creator's earnings, though the first 12 months will be free for all creators. If Apple agreed, Apple would be entitled to 30 percent of the 10 percent cut that Twitter takes from creators earning more than $100k.

Apple collects in-app purchase fees from subscription purchases that are made through the Twitter app on iOS devices. Apple earns 30 percent for the first year of a subscription, and 15 percent for each subsequent year. Apple takes the same cut of all digital purchases on the App Store, and the Cupertino company is not known for making exceptions to its rules.

Musk's request would not work with the current in-app purchase setup as Apple is collecting its fee from each subscriber who pays a creator rather than from the creator directly.

Facebook has protested the fee that Apple collects from the Facebook subscription option for creators, but Apple has not changed its policies. Facebook instead encourages people to support creators by subscribing on the web rather than on a mobile device, which is a method that Musk could use to limit the fees that Apple takes.

Musk has in the past criticized Apple's App Store fees, calling the cut that Apple collects "definitely not ok" and likening it to a "30% tax on the internet."
