$200 cheaper. From 1,299 -> 1,099. 999 if you’re a qualifying student.
Ah, missed that---thank you!

My poor brother in law just bought a new Air last night from some discount outlet in NY--hopefully, he can cancel his purchase!

I'd wager this has less to do with doubling down on the touch bar as it does with reducing cost by simplifying the manufacturing differences between models, as well as targeting students with some needed freshness in the base model of a laptop design that is on its last leg.
I'm also sure this was planned out a few years in advance---probably when they realized they were going to remake the Air.

Pretty sure it’s a fair statement given that these laptops still use butterfly keyboards. Unless you’d like to ignore the trend for the past 3.5 years

Apple just stated they modified the keyboard with a new material so you literally have no clue about its future performance.

Nah the Air started at $1199. It is now $100 cheaper starting at $1099 and is $999 if you’re a student.

See my above response. A discount outlet in NY? Hopefully they have a good return policy.

Haha small percentage? Ok there. If it was so great, Apple wouldn’t have made 4 revisions of it and is rumoured to replace it altogether later this year.

1. Of course it's a small percentage. With millions of devices sold, that's still a lot, and with the amount of attention the keyboards get obviously Apple strives to bring that percentage down by iterating on the design.

2. "Rumoured" isn't "confirmed".

In the face of this terrific news, I see many of the typical hate-bags here at MR come out of their caves to complain, especially about the Touchbar, which I love, by the way. I guess price cuts, with formerly pricey add-ons now included, are somehow...bad?

Perhaps not as many people are complaining about it as the Apple centric internet thinks?

Knowing how Tim Cook operates maybe this has more to do with eliminating supply? Though they just added this touchbar stuff to sidecar so maybe they are trying to make it happen.

Hmm... the entry level processor in the MBP is oddly clocked: 1.4GHz Quad-Core Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz. Anyone have any experience with these super-throttling chips? What's the performance hit?

Also...does
anyone like the Touch Bar? Still haven't seen a killer-app for it.

I do. I just want them to make an external keyboard with it already.

I was really hoping the next round of updates would have included the 8 core i9 from the 2019 15" MBP in the Mac Mini. An 8 core Mini with external GPU would be awesome!

I really hate the touchbar as I often accidentally brush my fingers against the function keys. I have set the F keys to launch/hide different apps using Alfred 4. I loved this Alfred feature with my Macbook 12 and now it is unusable.
