Seems like Epic is trying to make sure eyes are on their new game store. I would not be surprised if they bring out an Infinity Blade IV... 'cept only available on the Epic Games Store. I feel like they are putting a whole lot of eggs in that "Fortnite is printing money" basket. Time will tell if it's a good idea or not.

I think they meant the health of the library of Apps? At least that is how I took it.

If Devos are quick to drop support for older apps, and only keeping newer/money making apps alive, it isn't really good news for someone that uses the App Store for storage of their old apps, especially games.
Yes, maybe the article should be more specific. It is scary that iOS updates and such break games so easily, or that Epic is trying to force their hand in something, or whatever is going on. (Well, not scary for me because I don't play games anymore.)

Is this the game they were playing at the XS Max Keynote?
No, that game was Elder Scrolls: Blades, which has been delayed twice now. We though it would be ready by the time of the Xs or maybe the Xr launch, but it got pushed back into December. Then the day before we expected it to launch, it was pushed back into March 2019.

I hope Blades hits the right Elder Scrolls notes for progression and exploration. Developer Bethesda had a bad launch for the new Fallout 76 game, which could have contributed to the delay.

I ****ing HATE what has become of the gaming industry. We had a place for the AAA games with single player on all platforms (see GTA, etc.) wi compelling story modes and everything. You paid $60 and that was it.

Now you get a “free” game and pay through the nose to give your character a T-shirt. And people fall for this ****. GTA V has the best story mode ever and what people want to play is the same ****ing heists over and over again with cars that can cost more than the entire game. Same thing with this Fortnite crap.

We had a very good period in iOS gaming when they began putting out many console releases (GTA 3, VC, SA and LCS, the PS2 Prince of Persia, hell even Bioshock was ported) when someone discovered that there were too many idiots in the world willing to pay $5 for a single weapon. Sigh.

You might know (probably not) that I too once published a game on the iOS app store.

It was, in the words of some of my fans, the greatest game that ever existed (they seemed quite sincere when saying it, but I disagree.) It still runs - I'm working on bringing it to Switch - but I didn't want to keep paying Apple the annual $99 fee + hand over 30% of sales in exchange for Apple doing... nothing? Yeah. Nothing.

I'm glad that Epic is pushing back and setting up a store where they only charge 12% for distributing games. It's still a crazy high amount for how little they do, but at least we're taking a solid step in the right direction. Now if only iOS were a proper platform and there was a way to install things without the App Store or Xcode...

Apple needs to throw it's weight behind the Apple TV as a gaming device and revive iOS gaming. They really screwed that up from the beginning.
Apple has never been serious about gaming. Look at how abysmal their Mac lineup is. Underclocked, poor thermals. No serious company developes games for Macs

And the permanent iOS updates will render it inoperable entirely before long.

Meanwhile I can still play games from the 90s on a current Windows machine.
That convenience comes at a cost. Windows is renowned for having been riddled with security and stability problems over its lifetime, although things may have improved somewhat. This has mostly to do with the fact that Windows is filled with bloat. A lot of that bloat is there so you can run that ancient game from the 90s. Is it worth it? Maybe to businesses who don't want to update their stuff, or nostalgia, but even Microsoft is starting to figure out that it's not worth it in the long run.

Well, from what we’ve seen in the demo, it’s going to be Infinity Blade 4 Reloaded Revolutions - OK graphics, swipe swipe swipe and pretend that’s a sword. Rinse and repeat. God I miss the console ports we were getting. Still waiting for GTA VCS. I’d pay $40 for GTA IV on an iPhone...

Forget it. Streaming boxes are just not built for gaming. Even Amazon figured that one out. People who want to play games buy a console because they will always give a better custom tailored experience.

Right now, the Nintendo Switch is hot. It's a great system that can be portable and comes with 2 wireless controllers for $300. And, it's got 1st party titles that people want. A non-portable Apple TV with one wireless controller is around $180. It can't compete.

Gaming for Mac went down the tubes after Microsoft bought Bungie and killed off Halo launching on the G3 tower.
It was an exciting time for games before this happened. All kinds of games on the horizon and PS1 emulator before MS bought Connectix and killed it. We never recovered from this. Strategic winning move MS.

Never in the field of human gaming playing have so many payed so little for some so ***** awesome.

Let's face it, the mobile app market has bred a generation of tight fisted, self entitled brats that expect the best for nothing or next to nothing. We'd think nothing of giving a $1 to a homeless dude or a street busker but if asked for that for a decent bit of software that you'll spend hours using? No chance...

Why would a company, who has moved on and found better revenue elsewhere, continue to churn out epic eye candy games for next to nothing?

How much did you pay for this game? I know I never paid anything other than the initial install fee.
You get what you pay for...

Infinity Blade launched for $5.99 on the App Store in 2010. Considering how little game you got, it was a fair price.

If you think that this whole “game as a subscription service” stuff is OK, well, you’re sort of the reason why it all went wrong.

If they had something and given some notice they probably would have seen a burst of sales. The game is clearly just drawing too many resources away from fortnite.

More like “We make more money than we ever imagined with Fortnite, and don’t see the point”
Over a billion dollars, to be exact. Fortnite isn’t going anywhere. I wish they’d take some of that insane mountain of cash and do something else with it.

Well, as someone a few posts up pointed out, they're putting up a game store that only takes 12% (instead of 30% like Apple/Google/Microsoft/Steam), and there are some lawsuits challenging the monolithic App Store. Maybe they're planning some kind of long game in which they'll bring some high quality game software to iOS.

I agree, but Apple is too busy "disrupting" the music industry and we all know that with their $12 billion annual R&D fund they can only afford to focus on one thing at a time.

There's already dozens of fortnite clones slated for next year, and projected revenue for the genre is over $20 billion. Just for battle royale games. Meanwhile the entire US music recording industry made $15.7 billion last year. Less then this one genre of games. Next year fortnite and its clones will make more than all music does.

Apple is so misguided these days.

Is it just me or anyone else find the game extremely repetitive ?

Much less so than other games of the genre. There are new wrinkles everywhere and lots of hidden features you can uncover. It really was quite an expansive universe. I think I need to redownload all three just to keep.
