American tech companies are crooked as F, and need to be knocked down several pegs, across the board. Every single one of them. I absolutely loathe the tech industry and their rent-seeking practices. I can't stop using them, but I can push for our government to stand up to them.

Car companies used to do the same, but now rules (laws) exist to allow 3rd party repairs, diagnostics, modifications, upgrades, parts, without issue, and without voiding the warranty. Why is the tech industry so special that they should be exempt?
Have you looked at the price of Cars lately? Those laws and loss of power translated to higher prices. As always, the only person who loses money is the end user not the company (think of the shareholders!). Also kinda funny saying they fixed cars in general. Perfect example recently found out while third parties can replace the rear brakes on my car none of them will pay the extremely high cost of the software package to recalibrate the rear electronic brakes and it's completely gated to the manufacturers software.

$100 and an hour of time is now going to be $600+ and dropping my car off for a day. Tech will do the same thing regulation will come, and you will hear cheering from the masses. Then a few years will go by prices will be astronomical to compensate and they will find workarounds because the laws won't keep up.

Curious about what a player needs to pay now as compared to before on iOS?

Individual freedom is more important than the cost.

I would pay double what my iPhone currently costs if it was completely open, without hesitation.

Ask for car companies, they are simply price gouging and use an inflation as an excuse to raise prices when that is what they wanted to do anyway.

I have seen the cost; both the wife and I are in the market for new vehicles. I'm looking at an ID.4 and she wants an electric Cooper.

Ask the EU? Maybe nothing should be legal?
Most TOS aren’t worth the pixels they’re displayed on.

Sony says that I didn’t buy dozens of PSP games from their PlayStation Store, only a licence for them. This means that, according to them I cannot copy them to play elsewhere because the data is not mine. UK copyright law states the opposite, that I can copy a piece of software I have bought for my own personal use.

Somehow having said data encoded on a plastic circle gives me more consumer rights than one I copied from their own servers.

I bought it. I have the receipts. It belongs to me.

Making millions upon millions of cables useless and forcing people to buy all new USB-C ones! Just hope they charge your phone, since some can't. What a ****** standard.
They’re not useless. There are still millions of Lightning port devices in use across the world and likely will continue to be for the better part of the next decade.

That's nice.

Read your TOS.

You don't own the game. You own a license to play said game even though you have a physical disc. This isn't new. I'm sure your $5 PSP games you own/don't own keep you up at night

You have old Apple hardware, I suggest you switch over to Android so you can play Fortnite with your grandkids.

I'm not old enough to have grandkids nor do I have any current interest in android. What I am interested in, is companies putting the consumer first and ahead of rent-seeking and shareholders and freedom from said companies, dictating the rules.

I shouldn't have to uproot my digital life for companies to do the right annd moral thing and give control back to the users, even at a loss to their pocketbook.

I'm sorry that you don't live in reality. Apple is doing just fine without your little notes. Enjoy your dated hardware and complaining your iPhone can't make you breakfast

He wants this to happen worldwide, so I think he'll announce that the EU store is an amazing success, regardless of the actual numbers or market share. He doesn't have public shareholders AFAIK so he doesn't have to release hard data.

I wonder if the EU will force developers to deploy to multiple stores. Right now Epic has a monopoly on Fortnite, so shouldn't they have to give customers a choice where they buy it?

Fortnite is their product it's like saying Apple has a monopoly on Final Cut Pro. Basically they're entitled to distribute it anywhere they see fit.

Once I get an iPhone 16, I have no use for Lightning cables. You know where they go? The trash.

I just sold some 30 pin cables, along with 4th gen iPod on eBay for a decent amount of money. Don't throw that stuff away, people still want and use it.

Reduce, reuse.

Grow up.

My hardware works just fine, which is why I still have it and use it. I have never cared for latest and greatest.

New tech as a bragging point is for people who have nothing interesting going on.

I feel like almost all the games these days are banking on people spending loads of cash on in game purchases; I'll never do it unless it is some sort or expansion mission pack or something along those lines. "Buying" costumes and skins is a complete waste of money; but of course the target audience doesn't realize that since it probably isn't their money anyway. Damn kids....:p😅

I used to think cosmetics were a waste of money. Then I started playing Final Fantasy XIV, which is a multiplayer game with a vibrant social scene. The social aspect is a huge attraction and cosmetics really enhance that experience. I'll never forget the day I gave in on my anti-cosmetics stance. I paid $19 for a flying whale on which my friends and I could have a picnic while flying around the world in-game. It was years ago, but I still remember that. Absolutely worth it.
